Chapter 26: ᴛʜɪʀᴅ.
"She will turn eighteen soon. What will you do?" The oldest among the twins asked and the youngest shook his head while looking down.
He wants her. He needs her. He's been loving her since they were preschool but he doesn't know how he will be able to make her his wife. She's a pure human. He's a cambion. Perhaps, there's still a way. Ever since they left the human world, he hardly saw her. He's missing her for too long already.
"Aniki, I want to go back to the human world. I will make her mine." Determination appeared on his face and the oldest grinned widely.
The whole underworld is busy because of a special occasion that will be held tomorrow at the fairgrounds. The king will finally announce who will be the next one to rule and this also means that only one will succeed. The oldest raised a brow at the decision of the king. He should be the king since he is the older one. It will be an embarrassment for him if the king will choose the younger one.
"I will help you with what you want but I want something in return." He said and the younger one looked at him.
The creatures can easily distinguish who is who. The youngest got a pair of light brown eyes and most women are attracted to it. They share the same facial features but he can tell that his younger twin is more popular than him. He leaned closer to him and whispered something. He smirked but then, he hid it when he leaned back. He knows that his younger twin is crazily in love with that human. He can feel that he will accept his condition. The younger one looked at him before slowly nodding his head. At last, he will not feel threatened that someone will take what he deserves as the oldest.
"Riku, we will do it now." He whispered and Riku's light brown orbs widened. His heart started to beat so fast because of nervousness.
"Now? Gia's birthday will be next week." He said and his older twin shrugged his shoulders before leaving him alone in his room.
Riku doesn't know what kind of trouble he got into. All he wanted at that time is to make Gia his wife. He doesn't really want to be the next king of the underworld but if it will be their father's decision, who is he to question it? When he went out of his room, he saw his mother walking in the hallways. He ran towards her and hugged her gently from behind.
He always loves his mother among all. It is because she has been with him ever since he was a little kid. Until now, she is treating him like a baby. He is getting taller, so when his mother turned around, she needed to look up already. She smiled faintly and caressed his cheek. He noticed the hint of sadness in her eyes. He wanted to ask why but she just pinched his cheeks before leaving him alone. Something is not right.
The very next day came and he was wearing the prince crown when he arrived at the fairgrounds. He saw his older twin standing besides their father, so he walked closer and stood next to him. The crowd started to cheer on them and he just showed them his usual bright smile. Most of the creatures are in favor of him as the next king and the older twin doesn't like that fact.
Everyone went quiet when the king gestured for silence. They were anticipating for this very moment and the king announced who is the next in line. Riku's eyes widened a little but he didn't show them his shock about it. Their mother smiled at him and he smiled back. His prince crown became the king's crown.
"My little Riku. I know you will be a great ruler of the underworld." Their mother said and he nodded.
Meanwhile, the older twin, Reiki, forced a smile before going back inside the kingdom. Envy started to grow inside his heart but he knows that his younger twin's happiness is just a temporary one. He easily fooled Riku to hand his title as a king down to him. His dark brown eyes turned black as a manic smile formed on his lips.
A week had passed and Riku almost forgot his mission to be Gia's husband. He got busy with his duties as the new king and the underworld is in chaos. Someone informed him that his mother had an affair with an angel and they got a child. The news reached the past king and the informant proved to them that she is guilty.
"Your little brother is safe. One day, you will meet him. Fate will let you two meet. Love him as much as I love you." Those were his mother's last words before the past king killed her in front of everyone.
"Okaa-san!" He screamed so loud when he saw his mother's head detached from her body. Tears fell from his eyes and he fell on his knees.
Reiki secretly smiled while watching him break down into tiny pieces. It is funny how the underworld accepts all evils except having an affair with another person. He knelt beside Riku and pretended that he was also in agony and pain. Because of this, he got another chance to remind him about his mission. Gia will turn eighteen tomorrow already. They must prepare for it now. When Riku got back to his room, someone knocked from outside and a man went in to introduce himself. He took a deep breath and wiped his tears before facing him.
"My king, my name is Sho and I am assigned to be your right-hand man." The younger man knelt in front of him with his head down.
"Tomorrow is my future queen's birthday. Prepare yourself as you will be the future husband of the princess." He said in a firm and authoritative voice and he stood up first before nodding.
"If something happens in the future, always remember that you will be loyal only to me. I have no one to trust now. Do you want to earn my trust?" He asked and Sho nodded while looking at him with such determination on his face.
