Chapter 4: [IV] - A hunter and a pray

I closed my eyes in fear.

As I heard the loud gunshot, my left hand suddenly started to burn with an indescribable pain, a dreadful feeling I've never experienced before.

I dared to slowly open my eyes, just to see my whole palm covered in scarlet red blood, gradually flowing down to my elbow. And the communication device I was just holding — it was lying by the wall on the ground, pierced by a flying bullet. My probable last hope has just been crushed to bits.

"Shouldn't have taken that." — A deep voice sharply came to my ears.

That... That voice...?

I slowly looked up, frightened, that this might be the last sight I am ever going to see. Before me, stood the same blue-eyed masked freak, that stared at me in the dark alleyway, where the injured Order Officer was. But now, in the slight amount of light that could reach us, I could see him more clearly.

A tall man staring at me from above, wearing his black battle outfit, masked, hooded, holding a weapon with his gloved hands. Standing straight and looking into my eyes, from under his dark flowing hair, once again. This fascinating blue color...

Just why? I'm sick of this. I didn't want to come here anyway. This weird cat... If only I hadn't followed him! Why did I end up like that? With an unknown man pointing a gun straight into my face, looking straight into his victims eyes. If he's going to play some mind games with me, I'd rather be shot right now. Let me go or end it right now!

I closed my eyes and awaited for the end.

"I won't let you get away." — The sound of a lifting gun mixed with his words.

My mind was empty in the last seconds that were left for me.

I wanted to feel the touch of the world one last time. It's something that just comes to you when you realize there is nothing left.

Touching the fabrics of the Officers uniform, soaked in blood, I sensed something… hard and cold. Huh…?

My hand was still in this officer's deep pocket, searching for something. It's my final hope.

I opened my eyes just to find out that he is still standing, giving me the most creepy look one can give. His lurking blue eyes became wider, at the sight of mine opening. Why did he react like that?

If he hasn't decided yet to shoot me, then…

I have to reach only a bit further...

It's… a gun!?

"You fool" — I said.

Taking the critical amount of time that was left for me, I immediately took the hidden weapon out, and shot without hesitation.

The trigger, I've pulled it the first time in my entire life. And to my surprise, it did fire a bullet! So the weapon was loaded, to my advantage.

At this one moment when the bullet came out of this inconspicuous metal object, I could say a heavy weight was lifted of my already weakened body. An illusion of having relief, a temporary one to sooth one's mind in demise, of having no ways to escape the death.

But still, there was no ease to the physical pain. My right hand was shaking strongly, as the pain in my left hand started to spread up my arm, making it unbearable.

I was watching the the blue-eyed fall onto his knees, and grimace in pain.

I told myself, that violence should be my last resort, but when I was standing right before an offender, a person that hurt me and countless people lying around, I didn't even blink and hesitate. I felt pitiful for the people lying around. Maybe those Order Officers are bad, hurting many people in the process of "making this city United". They violate, they injure, they take lives, but… If they had other options to choose, would they atone for their sins?

If a second chance was given…

This man, he took it from them forever, without even properly explaining to them, what have they done wrong, and without giving them a way to find redemption.

The shooting noise from my gun echoed through the place, hitting the walls a few times.

Seconds later, I heard another shot coming from somewhere far away, I couldn't tell where. Did that other fellow shoot the officer? I can't wait anymore!

As the blue-eyed man was kneeling on the ground, with his whole body shaking, I noticed he was still holding his weapon in his hands.

On the verge of my life, I suddenly felt power growing in me, energy that made me feel strong and brave. Seeing a person who was the fault of hundreds dying, me in a miserable state like that, a feeling of superiority lifted my spirit up.

I stood up from the ground, and in one moment I kicked the gun out of his hand. I watched it fly, spinning in air all the way to the middle of the square.

Wait! I'm so dumb!

Another gun might actually be useful, in the possible fight with the other guy. Why didn't I think of this earlier? I need to get it!

Holding my injured left hand, I ran quickly to take the weapon lying a dozen meters away from us. Yes! Only few meters left...

But as I was about to get close, and reach it, suddenly, something strongly grabbed my leg from behind, causing me yet again to fall with impact onto the bloody ground.

I toughly hit the hard surface. Looking for the cause, I turned my head back, and saw the blue-eyed lying on the ground too, holding my leg, piercing me with his eyes. But this time, his gaze was different. As it was curious, seeking, fearful, but admiring at first, now the blue turned into even more bright, look of anger, terror and death. His gaze pierced me with a whole new feeling. A terror of one's mind.

Agh... I got myself in a turning point again! As I was feeling in a winning position just now, the bravery immediately dissolved, leaving me, a pitiful creature, lying all alone and scared. But I still couldn't give up. Coming this far…

With all of my force, I started to crawl in the direction of the weapon, but the hand… its grip got only stronger and tighter. I-I, I want to move further... Please…

Suddenly, the man started to slowly pull me back, towards himself.

No!!! I couldn't possibly allow him to do that! I tried to struggle, kick him with my legs, get away from this awful trap! But I was getting further and further away from the lying weapon...

Wait! The gun I found… It still has some bullets, right?

I found myself still firmly holding it in my hand. I turned on my back with difficulty, and tried to aim at the man, at his face, that was still looking at me with dreadful grief.

I won't hesitate to shoot.

I pulled the trigger with assurance.

But the bullet missed. It was the last bullet, because the gun wouldn't shoot out anymore.

I tried everything. Everything that could come to my mind. I lost the feeling in my left injured hand. Lying like that in the middle of the battleground, I awaited. There was nothing left I could try. The kicks... he just held my legs with the power I couldn't break. I could only try to punch him with my only hand left...

But surprisingly, it was grabbed and pushed to the ground, making me unable to move it anymore. What?? What the hell? The other hand, that I couldn't almost feel anymore from the amount of pain, was being constrained too. What is this man doing to me?!

Holding both my hands forcefully like that now, I couldn't slightly dream of getting away. The blue-eyed…

He was on top of me, blocking my every movement with his strong and heavy body. His covered face was just above mine, so close that I could feel his breath getting heavily out through his mask. The long black bangs got out of his hood even more, hanging in the air, softly touching my cheeks. I could see the reflection of my frightened face in his ice ocean eyes. So close, they are even more beautiful, with those long dark eyelashes that won't even move. He won't even blink. I felt the warmness of his close body, and the hot blood that was getting out of his thigh. I couldn't even struggle, I was immobilized. Physically and mentally. There was nothing left for me to do.

"l won't let you get away." — The blue-eyes told me once again.

He suddenly reached his hand towards my face. My mask! He was trying to put it off! I couldn't let that happen! I couldn't let anyone see my face. If he does it, I'm ruined forever!

With all the power I had left, I got my right hand out of his grip and slapped his other hand away from my face. I struggled once more, chaotically and violently moving in every direction. I just have to get away from under him. I don't even want to fight more, I will abandon this weapon and try to run for my life. He struggled back, trying to block my movements and prevent me from escaping. Fighting with every inch of body I have, for my freedom.

As I punched him with my hand that got free for a moment, I finally pushed him away. But as I tried to get up and run, with the remnants of strength, he reached his long hand towards my face, and pulled the mask covering my identity, down.

The moment my mask was off, uncovering my face, the man froze in one place, as if the time has suddenly stopped. His eyes. They stared at me with the feeling I couldn't even describe.

I can't think about it right now! I turned back, to head towards the alleyway. The only way of escape! I have to avoid the other guy by any means! The adrenaline in my body was starting to make me sick, but I must do it! I will.

But as I started to rush towards the escape route, the keyhole, suddenly, I felt the boiling hotness pierce through my body. An enormous explosion coming from behind me, with a powerful force, pushed me away, straight into the nearest wall.
