Chapter 2: Littlest Things

I counted the minutes up until the time it was for me to leave, I wanted to get home and pack before I had to leave for the airport tonight...

"Benjamin" Hanna called breaking me from my stare-down with the clock.

"Hm? What's up?" I answered.

"Get out of here..."

"Excuse me?" I gave her a confused look.

"Seems like you're anxious to see someone, why don't you get out of here. We got it from here" She said with a smile.

"Thank you so much, I will see you girls next week," I said quickly going to the back to grab my backpack before leaving, almost going at a jog out to my car. I was ready to get on the plane to New York and see Charli. As much as I wanted to I was careful not to speed on the drive back to my apartment. Once I got upstairs I quickly packed for a week, I don't know why I've been putting off packing. Since it is wintertime and I know it's going to be colder up North I just packed anything warm that I had and checked my list; iPod, coats, Jeans, sweaters, passport, wallet, and toiletries. All of this I packed, checked, then double-checked again to make sure. It was only three-thirty now and I didn't have to leave before six and my plane was scheduled to leave at eight.

What do I do before then?

Damn...

*Phone rings* (Drank too much got the sickness. Pray to God and his son for forgiveness. Same crew but another mistress.."

Oh...my phone...

"Hello?" I answered.

"Hey Benji, It's Charli, facetime me. I wanna show you something!" he exclaimed.

I chuckled and opened my camera "Oh yeah? What is it?"

"So I wanted you to help me pick out a stuffed animal for my collection. It's between the adorable Koala and the cuddly little pickle character thing" He said enthusiastically.

Charli really loved plushies, he always has, which I've always found admirable. I thought for a moment "I think the Koala matches you the most".

"Oh yeah? How so?" he asked.

"Well," I began "You and Koala's are both sleepy all of the time and love to eat" I replied chuckling at his passion for stuffed toys.

"oh Yeahhhh, that's true" he laughed. I loved how Charli still was a kid at heart despite being an adult and having to do adult things like adults do; sometimes I wish I could get in touch with my inner child again. It seems he has never lost his. Maybe this trip to see him can bring that side out of me out again just like when we were kids.

"anyways Charli, How was work today?" I asked lying back in be resting my head on my hand.

"Oh it was great," He said sarcastically.

"Yeah?" I raised a brown "That bad huh?"

He nodded "I was serving this group of guys at the Italian restaurant where I work right? and they were making fun of me, they kept calling me miss. Do you think my hair needs to be cut? I get mistaken for female a lot these days."

I shook my head "Nah, you'd look weird with short hair. I've gotten used to it being long; you don't have to change because you are perfect just the way you are, I say fuck what they say just as long as you are happy with yourself"

He beamed a bright smile; that same face from this morning, the one that shined like the sun from the corner of his mouth to his eyes, warming my soul. "Thank you, Benji," he said smiling even wider.

"Yeah of course; so anything besides work change?", Charli stared up in thought for a moment before he shrugged chewing on his bottom lip, a bad habit of his. "Well, I've got the story for you. This girl and her friend came in and she gave me her number I said pulling the pink piece of paper out of my pocket holding it up above me "Get this, instead of parentheses around her area code, she put hearts" I chuckled.

Charli smiled raking his fingers through his thick black hair, pulling it back from his face"Well, do you know this girl? She seems to like you a lot Benji, you should totally give her a call. you have been single ever since I moved away."

I shrugged "Not my type. She was one of those Bubble-gum thoughts, you know?"

'Hm, then what is your type? and whatever happened with that girl with the blue hair and all the tattoos? Alexa?" he questioned.

"Uhh, well that's a good question" I began"Well maybe I would want a girl who doesn't smoke weed and listen to metal while battling with her sexuality claiming twenty bucks is twenty bucks. And well let's just say Alexa lost and died in that battle and now is reborn as Alex" I explained, smirking softly "I don't have anything against it and for damn wasn't surprised."

"Wow so who dumped who?" Charli laughed.

"Well, he dumped me. That sounds weird when I say that." I replied.

"I get what you mean, well this time maybe find a guy that wants to be a girl, maybe you'll have better luck" he joked.

"What are you trying to say Charli? You did say people were mistaking you for female" I grinned.

"You ass...take it back" he pouted.

"I am only teasing you, I take it back. You know I'm not into guys. Just haven't found the right girl yet" I said with a sigh, at this point, does this girl even exist these days? None have appealed to me lately.

"Why? You have me as your best friend, we don't need women! We can party and be bachelors forever!" Charli exclaimed

I shook my head, his child was showering again which was putting a bigger smile on my face, warming my soul "Well, don't you want kids one day?" I questioned.

He shrugged "No...well...if some girl does steal our hearts and we do grow up...promise me we will stay friends and you'll come to visit often when you're not busy. Okay?" he said with stars in his eyes.

"I pinky promise" I replied sticking my pinky against the screen with his sealing my commitment to my promise. I didn't realize the time as we were talking about nothing for three hours now; it was time for me to leave for the airport and get to Brooklyn by Ten maybe eleven. I have to get off the phone somehow to maintain the surprise. I know! I pretended to yawn "Oh boy...I must turn in, I'm exhausted. Well, I'm going to head to bed now Charli" I said.

"Oh well, ok. I'll talk to you in the morning then? You seem pretty tired" He said with a smile "Well I guess I'll get to bed as well".

"By the way, before you go...what's your address for when I come this weekend?"

"I'll send it to you"

*Ding*

"Got it, thanks Boba...well goodnight. See you tomorrow" I said with a wave before ending the call.

Yeah, you will, I thought, smirking to myself. I then threw my jacket on as well as my hat and neck pillow making sure I had everything before I dragged my luggage down the stairs as quietly as I could trying not to wake up my neighbors. I had already planned ahead and scheduled an Uber which would be outside in five minutes so I just sat and waited on the stairs.

Soon it arrived in front; the guy inside honked his horn; people are sleeping...wow, I thought "Are you Benjamin?" he asked as I replied with a nod climbing into the backseat. "So you're headed to the airport right?" asked the driver through the rearview mirror, I could only see his lightly colored eyes with long lashes and bushy unibrow. He looked to be about twenty-five with dark skin and short-cut black hair.

"Yeah" I answered vaguely nodding my head before looking down at my phone; he didn't get the memo that I didn't feel like making small awkward conversation on the way to the airport.

"Are you going to see a friend? Or family?" he questioned.

"Um...yeah I am going to see a friend. I haven't seen him in a while" I replied in which he only hummed and nodded locking at the road then back into the rearview mirror at me. The rest of the ride was awkwardly quiet, I was just ready to get on the plane and leave. I shrugged and pushed my headphones up on my ears falling out of reality in a half-sleep state. My only thought was of how I was going to spend time with Charli and what we would do together; now that I thought about it, I have never been to New York before. He'd mostly be showing me around, most of all I was ready to see the priceless look on his face when he sees me.

The Uber driver whom I can't remember the name of to save my life dripped me in front of the airport entrance "Have a great trip man, I hope that you have a good time" he said waving at me before driving off. I took a breath and went inside, sitting in the waiting area to board the plane; I wasn't tired. Hopefully, I can get some sleep once I am on the plane and be somewhat rested after I land. It was maybe an hour or so before it was announced that it was time to board. I couldn't wait anymore but I remained patient as I went through the process before boarding and being seated next to a woman with long thick black hair, she reminded me of Charli.

My thoughts were now on him again, it's ok to miss a friend the way that I do, I thought. It's like missing a family member who you haven't seen in so long; Charli is like a little brother to me. Man, how long is this flight?

I miss Charli...
