Saying goodbye is never easy in a traditional Chinese family. However, they never failed to make it into a grand affair of humble bragging.
Robin learned to enjoy the limelight as he grew older; his parents and grandparents never failed to mention his academic performance, eloquence, and his numerous sports awards.
Ever since he was six, he felt conflicted knowing he could never live up to his family standards- to get married and bring honour to his family by bearing descendants. So he decided from a very young age to live a life that will please his family. He understood from a young age when he overheard during chinese new year how one of his auntie turned out to be a lesbian. The discussion centred around how immoral she was and how her parents/ Robin's grandparents disowned her because she refused to marry a man.
"It is only natural for a man and woman to be together. Ying and ying, yang and yang is not the law of nature." Robin's eldest aunt said.
Apparently, she was very into fengshui during that period and had advised the family on fengshui to improve prosperity and abundance.
"Must be you and your nonsense advices. See! Now one of your sibling has become crooked because of you. Hahaha." The eldest uncle, laughed heartily.
"Choi!"
The lively happy reunion scene was embedded in Robin's young mind, serving as dark warning of his foreboding future.
