Chapter 92: Chapter 90
"Hello, Alex?" Dan answered his phone with a big smile. He was having lunch with Chloe and Dana and the former just shared a very funny story that had him and Dana in fits of laughter. Since he was in his teens Alex was his only friend and he never got the chance to have fun like this. After his heart to heart talk with Alex, things have calmed down. It's been so long since his life has been peaceful like this and he's enjoying it to the point that it scares him thinking he would wake up one day and all of this is just a dream.
"Dan…" Alex said on the other line, his voice was trembling which had Dan immediately worried.
"Hey, are you okay? What's going on?" Dan asked worriedly, memories of a badly beaten Alex entered his mind. His heart was beating so loud that he felt like it would burst any moment.
"C-can y-you come back t-to the office now?" Alex said, his voice still trembling like he's on the verge of crying.
"Okay calm down. I'll head back right now." Dan replied.
"Thanks." Alex replied and ended the call.
"Hey, is there an emergency at the office?" Chloe asked curiously.
"I didn't receive anything from the president." Dana said after checking her phone, her brows are creased wondering if she should head back as well.
"I think it's n-nothing serious." Dan reassures the two Betas though he's not sure if it's effective or not. He's worried as hell but as Dana said if it's an emergency she should have received a call from the president.
"Should we head back as well?" Dana asked while Chloe groaned as they were just starting their meal.
"No, I just go and see what Alex needs, I bet it's something trivial. You two can continue eating." Dan waved his hands to reject Dana's offer and tried his best two smile at the two women.
"Should we ask the waiter to pack your food? You barely had any." Chloe asked.
"No, it's fine I'll just eat some sandwich later." Dan declined, his feet are itching to leave right now.
"Okay, you can go, we will ask them to pack it for take out later. Eat it during your break." Dana said ending the discussion as she noticed Dan is rearing to go.
All kinds of thoughts run through Dan's mind. Alex was supposed to have lunch with the president and both of them will take the rest of the afternoon off. Alek will have his prenatal check up in the afternoon so the couple would head straight to the hospital afterwards. Did something happen to Alex? Was it the baby? Is Bean okay? If something happened to the baby then they should have gone to the hospital immediately but Alex told him to go back to the office, in fact he was told to head straight to the pantry which added to his confusion.
Dan was thankful that it was lunchtime and most people head out of the office already so there wasn't anyone riding with him, hence he was able to arrive at the executive floor without having the need to stop at other floors and wait for other people to alight.
Dan didn't bother to check their working area and head straight to the pantry as instructed. There he found Alex smiling at his arrival and seemingly okay.
"Hey, you're back. The food just arrived too, you're just right on time." Alex said, greeting his friend as he set the table.
Dan looked at his friend, confused and unsure what was going on. He immediately grabbed a chair as he felt his knees giving up. He sat down as his knees lost its strength, seeing that Alex is actually fine.
Dan took the bottle of water Alex prepared and almost finished it in one go. "If you're not pregnant I would strangle you to death for making me worry like that." Dan said, glaring at his friend who couldn't help but winced with his words. "Start explaining yourself."
"C-Can we eat first?" Alex said, pointing at the food. "C-Colin said the sushi is delicious."
"Well, it better be since you disrupted my perfectly peaceful lunch." Dan replied still glaring, though deep inside he was relieved that it was nothing serious.
Alex heaved a sigh when Dan started eating though he almost dropped his utensils when Dan glared at him again as if saying "Start explaining now!". "Ahmm Keith's mom called when we were about to leave. She was reminding Keith about tonight." Alex started, he took another big sigh before continuing. "I don't know, I suddenly felt my hands and feet getting cold as if I was doused with iced cold water all over me. I suddenly felt scared of going out and being seen. It scares me that people will learn about Bean. Sorry I know it sounded petty and I honestly think the same too, but at that moment I was really scared, I'm not even sure why I'm scared. I mean, I'm married it's not as if I am having an affair with Keith, he is my husband and if we're having a baby there's nothing wrong with that. I honestly don't know." Alex bowed his head, rubbing his baby bump as if he's protecting it from some unknown forces that are trying to harm it.
Dan stared at his friend, at his growing baby bump in particular. It was really amazing that up until now, there was no news coming out about Alex's pregnancy, which is surprising in itself given that Keith's every movement is almost monitored by paparazzi or even at the office itself. People love gossiping about Keith Andersen and yet the biggest news bomb of all is still relatively kept a secret. Alex doesn't go out even during lunch, his food is mostly delivered from well known restaurants or generally home cooked and packed by their butler. There was never a chance for him to be out in public, he guessed it must be the reason why Alex suddenly felt anxious about everything.
"I thought you're not scared about meeting your in-laws? You said it doesn't matter what they think of you?"
"Well, I guess I'm still scared about all this." Alex replied, trying his best to smile. "Sorry for worrying you, Keith told me to call you, he must have thought I'd be calmer if I had you with me."
Dan completely understands where Alex is coming from. Their second gender being an Omega is a big factor with his behavior. Despite how the world changed, Omegas are still being ostracized and are still being looked down upon. It's perfectly normal to feel that way, however, Dan wondered if Alex knew how lucky he is. His Alpha bonded with him and even married him. Not just that, his husband openly shows his affection for Alex and Dan knows how Keith treats Alex. Looking at them sometimes made him think that there is still hope for Omegas like him, that maybe one day he will find someone like that. Then again, a small voice in his head keeps telling him that maybe Alex's case is just an exception.
"Do you know how lucky you are? Sometimes I like to wring your pretty neck for being happy and being oblivious about it. If I didn't know you, I would think you're gloating and flaunting your happy life on single and lonely people like me." Dan flicked Alex's forehead as a retaliation for being a lucky bastard and for worrying him today.
"Ouch! I said sorry already. Bean you're godparent is such a meanie." Alex complained, talking to his baby bump. "I know how rare my situation is and believe me even I can't fathom it sometimes. There are times I would wake up in the middle of the night and stare at my sleeping husband wondering if I am just dreaming and I would wake up that he's gone and he's just a product of my imagination. I guess us being Omegas and how society views us made me think like this. Anyway, enough about me. You haven't told me how things are going with you, please.. pretty please distract me with it."
"What? There's nothing going on with me. It's still the same. I'm still staying at your apartment because I'm scared Eric would show up again, though I really need to start packing my stuff from my old apartment." Dan replied.
"I meant with you and Martin. I can see sparks flying between you two, don't try to deny it." Alex teased his friend.
"What?? Where the hell did you get that idea? There's nothing going on between us, I barely even talk to the guy. Besides, I'm not looking for anyone right now." Dan denied furiously.
"Really? I thought there was something going on and if it was with Martin I would be at ease that you won't get hurt." Alex sighed disappointedly, he was really rooting for the two of them. He wanted his friend to be happy and Martin being friends with Keith, he believes he would treat Dan better than that asshole Eric.
"As I've said there's nothing going on and besides I think Martin is already with someone. He's an Alpha, of course it's pretty normal that he would be dating someone." Dan replied. He remembered that caller from that day Martin drove him back to the apartment after Alex's wedding. That "Nika" is definitely his girlfriend or maybe even his fiancee for all he knows.
"Really? Hmm Keith never mentioned anything about Martin dating someone." Alex said, looking as if he's racking his brains for any memory of his husband talking about Martin's lovelife.
"Stop it okay? Just because you're in a loving relationship which is borderline annoying to single people like me, it doesn't mean I need someone in my life too. I'm just getting back on my feet from all those Eric hullabaloo. I have no time for love, okay?" Dan said, raising his brow at his friend. "Let's just eat with no more talk about my lovelife." Alex just responded by raising his two hands in defeat.

"Alex, are you done eating?" Keith interrupted as the two Omegas were having their after meal tea. Dan immediately stood up upon seeing his boss though Keith gestured for him to get back to his seat.
"Yeah, we just finished. How about you?" Alex replied as Keith walked towards him.
Keith kissed the top of his wife's head before whispering "Have you calmed down now?" to which Alex replied with a nod. Keith turned and smiled at Dan, mouthing a silent thanks for helping Alex.
"Are we leaving now?"
"We still have time, you can take your time."
"It's alright, I'm done. Mattie would scold me if we were late for our appointment." Alex said, scrunching his nose at the mention of his brother's name.
Keith laughed. "Yeah, your brother might make a fuss and blame me." Keith then turned to Dan, "You can take your time going back, I told everyone to relax anyway."
Dan watched the couple walk out with their arms around each other, whispering sweet nothings to each other. He couldn't help but smile, he was really happy for his friend though there was a small hint of envy in his heart.
Dan stood up and washed the cups they used before heading back to his workstation. He plans to enjoy the quiet environment since Chloe and Dana would probably come back late as Keith told them to take their time and relax for this afternoon.
Since he thought he was alone at the office he didn't bother to look ahead and almost bump into someone. He felt that familiar scent and was not surprised to find Martin in front of her.
"Sorry." Dan apologized and left immediately before Martin could say a word. "This is Alex's fault." He whispered to himself as he pressed his hand to his fast beating heart.
