Chapter 3
Dani-
I got into the car and told the driver to take us to the hotel.
‘How the fuck did I lose that! I was certain I had it!’
Brooke: ‘I don't know Ma'am, I'm so sorry.’
‘Don't you be sorry, I should be sorry to you, I'm supposed to be teaching you, not showing you how to fail. I was so over confident, I even bought you that business suit so you could feel like you were really on a top notch team today. I know, you sat there quietly, but even watching a deal like that close, shaking their hands, you would feel so powerful.’
Brooke: ‘I'm not sure what to say.’
‘There's nothing to say.’
I wanted to scream, and hit something, hard.
Plus, I hated to admit it, but losing the deal in front of her, made it so much worse.
Sure, everyone lost a deal on occasion, but it was very rare for me.
We rode to the hotel in silence and went to our separate rooms within the suite.
After getting into some pajamas I ordered us a solid dinner, and had them send a bottle of tequila as well.
I went to her room and knocked on the closed door.
Brooke: ‘Ju-just a minute!’
I heard her moving around, then she answered the door in an adorable purple pajama set.
‘I've ordered us some dinner, and some booze. I planned on taking you to the nicest restaurant in Philly tonight and ordering a bottle of the finest champagne, maybe even a second. I wanted you to not only see your first win tonight, but to feel it. I'm sorry I was so negative earlier, and I hope you don't feel robbed of dinner, but I truly don't have it in me.’
Brooke: ‘I'm sure when the time is right, we'll have that celebratory dinner, but I'm sure whatever you've ordered will be perfect. You mentioned, booze?’
‘Yes, champagne is for celebration, tequila is for mourning. There is a catch if you join me drinking. I need to truly relax, and let go, which I can't do as your superior. So if you want to have dinner, then go to our rooms, that's fine, but if you'd like to share the tequila, you're welcome to, but it's just Dani and Brooke if we do.’
Brooke: ‘I could go for a drink honestly, if you're sure you don't want to be alone, I know today was a let down.’
‘I appreciate it, but I want that to be the last time we mention the disappointments of the day. I say we find a good movie, enjoy the chicken and steak skewers coming, and make the most of our night.’
Brooke: ‘That sounds really nice, I hope it’s not weird, but it sounds fun, to hang out with you as just Dani.’
She blushed in a way I found entirely too cute, showing the dimples I rarely got to see.
I gently reached for her face, cupping her cheek gently, tracing the dimple with my thumb.
‘I like your dimples. I know I already got into my pajamas, but I think I'd like a shower. If room service comes before I get out, grab a twenty from my purse for tip.’
Brooke: ‘Yes Ma-...yes Dani.’
‘Good girl. Why don't you see about finding us a movie while I shower?’
Brooke: ‘Any preference?’
‘Something funny, no major drama.’
Brooke: ‘I can handle that.’
She smiled looking pleased and I turned to leave.
I got some fresh underwear and headed to the shower.
Something inside me just felt, different.
I was so upset, furious even, but the thought of a movie with her over dinner, just seeing her smile, tracing that dimple, moved me.
She was certainly something special.
I turned the water on, trying to rid the overwhelming thoughts from my mind.
I guess the shower was a perfect excuse to relax a little, unwind with a little personal time.
I giggled to myself as I start to undress.
--the next morning--
My head was pounding so hard it woke me, to notice a horrible thirst.
To my surprise I discovered I wasn't alone in my bed, but I was naked, and so was she.
