Chapter 2: Surprise!

This one is taken from the first chapter of my story called The Haddocks because I loved it so much. Enjoy!!

Astrid

-----

I woke up and got ready for the day, turning around to splash Hiccup in the face with a bucket of ice, like I have to every morning, because he won't get his butt up! When I don't wake him up, he gets up at about 10, which is not a good habit. So I tend to give him a little encouragement.

But today when I woke, something wasn't right. Just, I didn't feel good. I felt sick to my stomach, in fact I puked multiple times. Hiccup was close behind, holding my hair when I vomited, hugging me to comfort me. And when he went of to his chiefly duties, I head over to Gothi's, just to make sure I don't have anything serious, because it is winter. And winter for the hooligan tribe usually brings sickness. In fact a few years ago I was severely sick, stuck in bed for almost 2 weeks.

Trust me, I love Gothi and all, but she is a little creepy. And the fact that she doesn't talk, and nobody knows why she doesn't talk, just makes the situation wierder.

Anyway, I told her my problem and she poked me. She asked me if I was in contact with anyone sick lately. (We had to get Gobber to read it) About 10 minutes later she wrote in the sand. Gobber freaked me out with what he said next.

"Uhhhh, Ima go get Valka. She's gonna want to take this one." he said as he patted my back.

So there I was, complete silence, waiting for what felt like yeas with a little old and creepy lady staring at me, like she was staring into my soul.

"Astrid! Gothi diagnosed you. And I know you will be satisfied with the results." Valka was talking slowly, but I could see a grin popping on her face. I was growing impatient. VERY impatient.

"Valka, I love you and all, BUT YOUR KILLING ME! What is wrong?" I said, in a rushed voice.

"Astrid, you're going to be a mother."

The words hit me like a tidal wave.

You're

Going

To

Be

A

Mother.

Oh my Thor! I started crying right there. Valka laughed as she hugged me, and I never though this would happen but Gothi hugged me too!

"Oh my Thor! I have to go home and prepare!" I said as I rushed off.

As I leave I glance at Valka, and also hear what she says.

"They grow up so fast." And with that Gothi nodded.

I ran down to our hut. How was I going to tell Hiccup? Would he be happy or angry? Would he sigh or squeal? Questions hit me, until Hiccup walked in the door.

"I made dinner! Your favorite soup." I said as Hiccup put his cape down and kissed me. I sighed and closed my eyes. Do I tell him? What do I say. My gut was having a conversation with me as I though.

Astrid, tell him. It's easy. Just say the words. I'm pregnant.

But what if he's upset? He wanted to wait for children. Will he be upset? Disappointed at me?

Oh, just tell him.

I don't want to.

TELL HIM!

Oh, just shut up.

I took a deep breath. I tried to let it all out, but it was too much. My words turned into sobs as I ran up the stairs to our bedroom.

"Astrid, what's wrong?" Hiccup yelled, bolting after me.

He sat beside me and I played my head on him. I cried and cried.

"Astrid, what's wrong? Your scaring me! Are you okay?" Hiccup kept repeating.

"Hiccup, I, I-" and I burst into tears all over again. Hiccup rocked me back and forth until I had no more tears left to cry.

"Hiccup, promise you won't be mad?" I asked. "I know you wanted to wait and-."

"I promise Astrid. Pinkie promise." Hiccup said, looking very worried.

I sniffled. "You're going to be a father." I said. I finally let it out. Hiccup was silent for a couple seconds. Then he started laughing, and very quickly the laughs turned to tears.

"Astrid, how could I be mad at your for that? I've always wanted a family! Oh my Thor, I can't wait!" Hiccup kept gushing and gushing.

Eventually we quieted down. We laid back, me nuzzling my head into him. That's when I realized. This was one of the happiest moments in my life. Hiccup kissed me, cried a little more, and we both fell asleep.
