Chapter 69: A sidetrip to Orre (Part 1)
Leaving most f his Pokémon behind, Death only brought Genesis and Revelation with him in a Luxury Ball and a Master Ball when he returned to the Orre region. His Avatars would be focused on training his other Pokémon alongside Serena, Valerie, and Leaf.
He had already been to Orre a few times, and had even snuck into Team Snagem's base to steal the portal device used in the game, Pokémon Colosseum, to convert regular Pokéballs into Snag Balls.
Hew traded places with an Avatar that was already in Phenac City, which had recently located an attractive young lady named Rui. She had a somewhat tomboyish personality, though her manner of dress wasn't as tomboyish. She was somewhat simply dressed, with a simple and tight white miniskirt, a purple sports top that showed off her toned belly and a blue jean jacket with pink trimming on it (which hung open, thus allowing her belly to be seen). For shoes, she wore blue combat boots that matched her jacket with pink trimmings.
She had shortish orange hair in two simple pigtails and blue eyes, and apeared to be around 19 to 22 years old, since it was only a guess and he wasn't certain yet. Unlike the girl in the games, that looked like a kid, this was unmistakably a woman with a find figure, nice curves, and breasts that he judged to be D-cup in size.
Rui had a physique similar to Yang's, even though her breasts were a bit smaller. She was still extremely pleasant on the eyes. Now, he could have waited around for the story to start. According to his system he had to be here in two days to save Rui from Team Snagem, but he was here now, so why wait until she was captured.
He composed himself and approached the diner where Rui was seated alone at an outdoors table "Hello, do you mind if I join you?"
Rui looked at him as though he was nuts "Why?" she asked with suspicion "There are lots of empty tables"
"Well, I'm here seeking conversation with a beautiful young woman. I wont find that at an empty table" Death insisted.
Rui rolled her eyes "Fine, whatever."
Death pulled out a seat across from her and sat in it "Hello, my name is Death Rose. It's a pleasure to meat you....Miss?..." he asked, seeking her name, since he still hadn't uncovered her last name to properly research her.
"Rui Mirei." She answered nonchalantly "I know, I chose a really bad region to vacation in. I should have done better research. Laugh it up if you want. Stupid Sinnoh girl."
"I would definitely not say that" Death insisted "Just like me, you came to this land for a reason, you just haven't realized it yet, but you have a gift. And no, I'm not talking about your looks. Your looks are top notch, but I wont say cheesy things like you are here to meet me and nonsense like that. It is merely a side-benefit for me."
Rui sighed "Okay, I'll bite. If you know so much then what's so special about me?"
"Team Snagem has started making use of some process that suppresses the emotions of Pokémon, calling these modified Pokémon 'Shadow Pokémon'. Your power is the ability to recognize Pokémon that have been cruelly subjected to this procedure, which will paint a huge target on your back once Team Snagem learns what you can do. I wish to use this gift of yours to identify 'Shadow Pokémon', acquire them, and try to heal and reverse what was done to them."
"You want me to help you steal Pokémon?" Rui asked with shock.
"Only Pokémon that lost their emotions and are basically just weapons, only so that they can be healed. And my primary objective is stopping Team Snagem from creating any more 'Shadow Pokémon' through methods that can only be assumed to be torturous." Death quietly insisted to Rui "Also, most of, if not all of, the Pokémon altered by Team Snagem were probably stolen from someone else before being turned into blindly obedient emotionless shells of their former selves. I'm not some thief just after powerful Pokémon. Whether weak or strong, I will liberate all shadow Pokémon and find a method to reverse what was done to them. I can't do it without you, though, Rui. Please, at least consider helping me out, alright? This is also your chance to be a hero. I might handle all of the fighting, but there is a thing you can do that I cannot, so you'd contribute in your own way plenty."
Rui's expression had some hesitance, mostly due to not knowing whether or not he was telling the truth. He thought, though, that she was starting to want to believe him "Team Snagem is active in Orre, so it is only a matter of time before you get to see a 'Shadow Pokémon', and then you'll know that I am telling the truth for sure." Death reassured her "Don't worry, though, I wont let them hurt you. Hell, even if I did not need your help, I, as a true Huntsman, wouldn't stand back while an innocent bystander was attacked by villains."
"You're making a reference to that show, RWBY, right?" Rui asked, understanding that huntsmen and huntresses are the heroes in that world.
"Indeed I am." Death chuckled "My name is Death Rose." he reminded her.
"Wait....The Producer/Director of that show?" Rui asked skeptically.
Death chuckled and took out his scroll and activated the holo screen and put up an image he had prepared for when he met Rui, with himself and his wives, children and companions all together back in the Star Wars Universe, meaning that Anakin, his mother, and Satele Shan were all present, with Pyrrha still pregnant at that time "The one and only." Death verified "You can probably recognize some of these people."
"Taiyang Xiao Long and Summer Rose." she recalled, recognizing the duo first "There's Ruby and Yang, oh, and there's Weiss, with what looks like her younger sister."
Rui was of course referring to his daughter with Weiss, Yuki, so he just chuckled "That's right. and I am right here." he pointed to a part of the picture where he was seated between Neo and Amber.
"Wow, so many girls around you. Are you dating one of them?" Rui asked with curiosity, recognizing that both Neo and Amber in particular seemed to be quite close during the picture,
Death chuckled, amused by this question "Yes, you could say that I am dating, or rather married, to many of them." he verified "Not all, of course, but I have a lot of wives and I love each of them."
"Seriously?" Rui asked with shock,
Death nodded "Ruby, Yang, Weiss, and Blake, who are the main characters in that very show, are all married to me. And I take damn good care of the women I love. You even have a chance, since we are going to likely be working together in the foreseeable future here, but it's your choice whether or not to pursue a relationship or keep things platonic."
"Well, you want me to work with you." Rui hmmed "Well, I don't know you enough to discuss romance, but if you can show me few episodes of RWBY early then I'll join you for now and let you prove to me that I have this ability you speak of"
"Deal, but no giving spoilers away to others, okay?" Death said as a counteroffer.
Rui nodded and drank the last of her tea before getting up "Lets go to me motel for now so I can see them then" she was getting excited now, and Death was even more relieved that he released that show so that he had such a method to convince her.

In her motel room, Death let her watch the most recent episode that she had already seen but wanted to watch again, and then he played the next two episodes of the show. The last publicly available episode ended with Weiss, on her tenth birthday, after her father broke his promise and missed her party, heard from her father that he only married into the family to get the name to control the Schnee Dust Company.
The next episode opened with Willow Schnee's reaction, getting into alcohol, and Weiss growing even more sad. There wasn't many words for a while, just scenes depicting the family falling even more apart while set to a song called 'Broken Girl'.
This wasn't actually from the RWBY soundtrack, but was a good some from his original world that seemed to suit Weiss just fine in this moment. By the time the montage and song had ended, Weiss was now twelve and Winter was leaving to attend Atlas Academy, with the intention of joining the Atlas Military after she graduated.
Jacques Schnee and Winter had a yelling match, though Weiss, who tried to make out what was being said, was frustrated that she could not. When she finally saw Winter, Weiss jogged over to her sister, who she still revered, and asked if she was alright. Weiss looked horrified when Winter said that she had to be the heiress now, and the fearful reality was soon confirmed.
Her horrible father disowned Winter, who was no longer heiress of the Schnee Dust Company. Weiss, who wanted to be a huntress, now had duties as heiress which visible stressed her out a lot, but she persevered. Her father even started arranging 'dates' with young men from families that he approved of, but Weiss soon realized every one of them was only interested in her family name and wealth, and grew more and more jaded and snarky. The few times she was allowed to meet Winter were her happiest moments, since her relationship with her brother was growing worse and worse as he was being tainted by their father and showed disdain for others, including his sisters.
The final episode included Weiss beginning her 'idol' career, with the first appearance of her on stage singing Mirror Mirror part 1, at her fathers insistence while simultaneously beginning to find her resolve to attend Beacon, and having to 'earn' the right by beating a Geist Grimm that had possessed a massive suit of grimm.
Weiss, according to her father, was to be made to give up so that he'd have an excuse to bar her from following her silly ambition of becoming a huntress, but she managed to persevere, and against all of she won, though she got a scar to show for it.
Weiss ended up in a hospital after the battle, but once she recovered and was released, she packed up and started heading to Beacon, the scene playing out as another music trailer, set to the song 'I Am Not Nothing', slipping back to various sad and lonely parts of her childhood, with the overall intent being on making it clear that she was trying to take back her life and get out from under her fathers life.
Rui was moved to tears by this conclusion to the three episode Weiss arc. As the episode ended, Rui looked at him "That was well made and beautiful" she sniffled "Her father is an asshole."
Death chuckled "He is, and you still don't know half of it. After all you only saw him from the perspective of his daughter. You'll learn much worse about him in the future."
Rui gulped.
"You'll probably think Weiss seems pretty rude and entitled in the rest of the first volume, but she was sheltered and has a very jaded view towards other people. She'll need time to grow as a person. I thought it best to put in these episodes to help people understand her starting point and to help people to properly appreciate how much she'll be growing up as the story progresses." Death explained to Rui "And as long as we are working together and you don't leak information on them to anyone I will continue watching two episodes ahead."
Rui nodded "As long as 'Shadow Pokémon' are real and those are the only ones you are stealing, in order to heal them, I'll join you."

Two days later she did witness a member of Team Snagem using a 'Shadow Pokémon', and mistakenly commented on the shadowing aura around it. The Snagem grunts tried to capture her due to overhearing her muttered comment, but Death was there too, and using Revelation/Rev and Genesis he easily overpowered the duo, and stole a shadow Makuhita from one of them, since Rui had already identified it as a 'Shadow Pokémon'.
The two men, along with their remaining Pokémon, were teleported to a cell in Lyonesse separately. He wasn't like Ash or Wes that let enemies run away in order to battle the same foes multiple times.
After that he dragged Rui along around town to beat down any Team Snagem members he could find, and she identified three more shadow Pokémon, which were a Bayleef, a Quilava and a Croconaw, which he caught one after another and sent the captured Snagem grunts to Lyonesse again, along with their remaining Pokémon.
Team Snagen started disappearing from the town after realizing that they were being targeted, but he caught a few more that did not have a 'Shadow Pokémon' before the last were able to slip away.
Death's first quest in the Orre region was just starting, but he intended to make the most of it get some good Pokémon out of it to add to his Pokémon Ranch. He wasn't really sure whether or not legendary Pokémon would appear like in the games, but if they did he would certainly be happy to add them to his Ranch.
Well, that wasn't his first priority. The Legendary Pokémon might have been tempting, but if he had taken no action at all then he knew that Wes would have taken the hero role and handled everything here, but he decided to personally get involved do to a quest he received from his system.
Defeat and dismantle completely Team Snagem and Cypher, then he would receive an 'eye power' and a 'random Legendary/Mythical Pokémon Egg, so technically he was guaranteed at least one interesting Pokémon, and depending upon the eye power he received he might get a considerable power boost. If it ended up being something terrible he'd still be able to sell it to his system for system points.
'Sorry Wes, but without the Snag Machine and a partnership with Rui, you wont get to be the hero of this adventure. There is just too much for me to gain here to let you handle it' Death internally monologued "Besides that, if the games are any indication I can do it much better then you would have'
