Chapter 20: Gunshot
Shane turns around facing Zane he didn't say anything it was obvious to Zane he was silently telling him to continue "I-I let. . ." he turns his head away from Shane "You know what never mind, Lets catch up to dad and Carl." Shane sighs and heads over to them with Zane following behind him they catch up and see Carl walking up to a deer while it looked at him. Then suddenly they hear a gunshot It hits the deer piercing through it hitting carl making him fall to the ground seemingly lifeless. Zane stood their shocked it was like his brain couldn't process what was going on in front of him, While he was panicking in his head Shane got in front of Carl pointing his gun in the direction of the gunshot, while his dad went over to Carl making sure he wasn't dead.
They had been running with Rick carrying Carl's limp body while Zane ran absent mindedly next to his father and Shane was yelling at the guy who shot Carl. He didn't purposefully shoot him he was aiming for the deer, so he was showing them to this farm where someone would be able to treat him. He couldn't run anymore because he was a heavyset guy but Shane didn't care "Come on keep going." He said nudging the man trying to drag him along. "HOW FAR?" Rick ask turning towards Otis and Shane "Just up ahead. Talk to Hershel. He'll help your boy."
Rick started running towards the direction Otis told him to, not waiting for the other two men any longer while carrying his boy. Zane went along with his father he was on the verge of tears but he told himself he couldn't cry anymore, he had cried to much already Carl will be alright he told himself. "C'mon you know he's gonna die sooner or later anyway." The voice from before said while laughing. "No your wrong. . . he'll b-be o-ok" He says weakly in his head. "Yeah and with that logic I'm not just a figment, of, your, imagination." He says laughing crazily. "What do you mean by that?" The giggles but doesn't answer leaving Zane confused.
Zane was pulled out of his thoughts by an older man yelling "Was he bit?" Zane looks up noticing they have a small group and they could take over by force if needed, but he mentally scolded himself for thinking that way. "No, Shot. By your man." Rick says quickly. "Otis?" A older woman says. "He said find Hershel. Is that you?" The man nods and rick continues "Help me. Help my boy." he said his voice full of desperation. "Get him inside." the old man says. walking inside with Rick and Zane following him "Patricia, I need my full kit. Maggie, Painkillers, Coagulates- - Grab everything. Clean towels, Sheets, Alcohol. In here." he says walking through the house while barking the orders he walks into a room with Zane and his dad following him, he throws off the blankest of the bed and Rick lays Carl down.
Rick stare at his son he was full of worry "Is he alive?" Hershel doesn't answer "Pillowcase quick." "Is he alive?" Rick ask while taking the pillowcase of the pillow. Hershel still doesn't reply "Fold it. Make a pad." Rick does as told and puts the pillowcase on Carl's wound. "Put pressure on the wound." Zane seeing all of this couldn't take it anymore he quickly walked out of the house sitting on the steps of the front porch putting his head in his hands. Shane walks over toward him with Otis following behind, When his father walks out distraught he didn't know what to do or what to think how to act Zane figured that much because he felt the same when he heard his father had been shot.
But this was different he saw it happen, this was his brother his best friend his twin his other half basically. And he was sitting on a bed limp getting operated on and he didn't know if he was gonna live or not, So with every fiber of his being he wanted to get up and drive his knife in Otis's throat. And it seemed like a better idea with every second that passed just hearing his voice made Zane wanna murder him. Zane was so deep in thought he hadn't even noticed the three adults had left he still sat there though thinking of way to kill Otis, What could he say it just made him feel better. Zane had been sitting outside on the porch for a while just thinking when he saw his father, Shane, Hershel, and Otis walk out and head toward a blue truck.
Zane walks over toward them "Where are you going? With him." he says pointing towards Otis and his voice laced with anger. Rick looks over at his son "Shane and Otis. Have to get supplies for Carl's surgery." Zane nods his head "I'm going." Shane looks at him as he says this "No! It's to dangerous." Zane shakes his head annoyed "Just living right now is dangerous. I'm going." He says hoping in the middle of the truck. Making Shane and Rick stare at each other before Shane hops in the truck and they drive off.
