Chapter 3: The First Battle

[Attention: Player has entered the Serene forest]

Zero looked around while slowing down after receiving the notification. There were less people in this area so he was more likely to find a boar if he took his time.

Walking around the forest while listening to birds chirping brought Zero a sense of calm he hadn't felt before in any other game. He touched a tree as he passed it and it felt like any other tree in the real world. His body moved like it did in the real world and he felt like it could be considered a second world if the game was successful enough.

Suddenly Zero stopped as he heard the bushes ahead of him rustling. As he put his hand in the hilt of his sword he saw his first enemy of the game walk out in front of him. This enemy was simply a level 1 boar so he wasn't too worried.

While drawing his sword he looked at the boar and tried something he hasn't been able to yet.

"Inspect!"

[Level 1 Boar]

Hp: 150

Mana: 10

Attack: 10

Skills: Charge

.....

Charge: Run towards your target in a straight line dealing 20% physical damage to the target

Mana cost: 2

.....

Zero smiled upon looking at the stats of the boar and started rushing towards it. The boar being level 1 means that it is passive until attacked so Zero used this to get up beside it before slashing his sword at the boar's side.

-30hp

He watched as a damage number floated above the boar before quickly disappearing while the boar turned towards him and attempted to hit him with its head. Zero stepped to the side and while used this time to get used to his stats.

Dodging the attack, Zero slashed at the boar just above where it's leg was connected to the body dealing another 30 damage. It won't take him too long to deal with the boar but with no skills it will take some time to actually level up.

After a few seconds of dodging and attacking with the boar it finally fell when it's health hit 0.

[Level 1 Boar Defeated]

10 Exp Gained

Obtained x1 Boar Hide

....

Zero watched as his experiment requirement for the next level went up to 10/100. He was content since with a party the experience would be split between the team members and while the quest to kill boars would be completed faster the experience gain would be a lot lower.

Walking around for about 30 minutes Zero was able to kill 8 more boars. He had even run into a few players but with everyone still level 1 or 2 they all just minded their own business. That was until he ran across a group of players fighting 3 boars at once.

Watching from the side Zero was able to see the group of 3 fighting the boars with a bit of difficulty. The players were all level 1 still and when inspecting the boars he saw they weren't doing too much damage due to the boars using their charge skills every once in a while.

"These newbies are simply killing themselves fighting 3 at once. Even the lowest health boar is still over 100hp."

Shaking his head zero let the fight continue without interfering. Listening to the shouting of who he assumed to be the leader of the 3 it was clear that he was the reason they were in their predicament.

"Hey! Help me with my boar it is at 110hp!"

"I can't! My boar is attacking me constantly!"

"I can't either! I can't dodge like you both!"

Zero heard them arguing and continued watching while laughing to himself. It was clear their team composition, a Swordsman, Fighter, and Warrior, were not meant for sustained fighting. The warrior could probably defend until he received help from his teammates but considering they were struggling against a level 1 mob (mob is basically monster) they were not looking too good.

The fighter was doing fairly well with dodging the boars attacks but over time their party kept accumulating damage until death. This happened fairly quickly since the fighter tripped on while dodging the charge his own boar used and ended up getting hit by it. His body ended up hitting a tree and as his actions weren't unnoticed by his teammates they were both distracted and hit with individual charge moves.

Due to being hit with charge they were on the ground struggling to get up since it felt like the wind got knocked out of them.

"Still too new to the game..." Zero sighed as he watched the team get stopped to death by their individual boars. Don't forget that the game was made with a 98% immersion rate. Pain is simulated in the game and while most turned their feeling of pain down the game had it defaulted at 50% of what is felt in the real world. So still if you got hit in your chest by a fast traveling animal you would feel a bit out of breath if hit in the right spot.

"FUCK! MY BOAR WAS AT 20 HP!"

"I TOLD YOU WE SHOULDN'T HAVE FOUGHT 3 AT A TIME!"

"I'M NEVER PARTYING WITH YOU AGAIN SCRUB"

"I DON'T NEED YOU HERE -"

Their conversation was cut short as their bodies disappeared into tiny orbs of light that vanished into the air.

Zero took the opportunity given to him and inspected the boars again while rushing towards them with sword in hand.

[Level 1 Boar]

HP: 20/150

Mana :0/10

Attack : 10

[Level 1 Boar]

HP: 55/150

Mana :0/10

Attack : 10

[Level 1 Boar]

HP: 90/150

Mana :0/10

Attack : 10

Before the boars could be declared out of combat and their statuses reset to max, Zero poked all 3 with his sword making sure they were all focusing on him. Without panicking zero went and stabbed his sword into the boar with the lowest health killing it instantly. With this kill Zero leveled up but as he was in combat he wasn't able to actually check on the details of it.

With that boar killed his quest was completed. The display in his vision showed a a blinking exclamation point off to the side but since he was technically in combat the quest completed notice was hidden until Zero was declared out of combat.

Knowing he would be declared out of combat when the final boar was dead he decided to quickly end things by running towards the boars. With them both out of mana he didn't need to worry about them using the charge skill. Dodging a simple head butt from one boar he stabbed his sword into the side of the boars head. Unsurprisingly this move earned a red damage number that signified a critical hit.

-60hp

With the boar dying instantly considering it had 50hp before the attack Zero backed away to gain a bit of distance in the final boar. He had to admit that without a skill it was pretty annoying to fight. Though he did good damage on these boars, people had to realize that these boars were only level 1. With the increase of the level of mobs they will get higher health pools and eventually their defense will get high enough to lessen the damage of attacks.

Focusing back on the final boar Zero decided to dodge the boars initial attack and move around behind the boar before giving it a slash with the sword.

-30hp

[Level 1 Boar]

HP: 60/150

Mana: 0/10

Staying behind the boar Zero gave it a few more hits before it finally fell and died. Putting his sword away he looked around before leaning against one of the trees and relaxing for a moment.

"I have a good grasp of how I can move and fight. Now I just need to do my best to level up"

After watching the freeze around him rustle in the wind, he decided to call up his status window to see what changed with his level increase.
