Chapter Fourteen
Shortly after his deep heart to heart conversation with Thomas, Liam then approaches his mom ''hey, momma, do you think you can watch Tom for a little bit?'' asks Liam needing to take care of something. Not wanting Thomas to overhear what he has to do, and does not want his little buddy tagging along. It would, despite the process of keeping where he is going a secret.'' I would love to; where are you headed? ''asks Avery curiously, having a good feeling about where her son is heading but wants him to say where he is going.
''Just out, as he turns his head, Tom, I'll be back in a little bit be good for grandma ''calls out Liam to Thomas before heading out.''Okay, daddy ''says Thomas with another cookie in his hand, thinking nothing of the sort while Avery is. She is thinking to herself why her son keeps the truth to do with Hazel and continuously secretive about his whereabouts on behalf of Thomas. If her daughter-in-law were here, Zoey would be telling Liam what he was doing is wrong and being honest with their son.
On his way to meet up with Hazel, he was headed to the center square of Peppermint, walking past the town gazebo and there appeared Zoey.''Babe, why aren't you being honest with Tom about what's going on?'' asks Zoey sitting on a bench. Liam then turns around, seeing his wife's spirit out of the blue at this moment,'' trying to prevent him from getting hurt. I guess ''says Liam as he sits down on the bench. She then runs her fingers through his hair,'' are you sure this is just about Thomas?'' asks Zoey looking at her husband.
''Maybe it's more about me; I thought that I was ready to move on, but then I felt guilty at the same time, ''admits Liam opening up on how he is truly feeling. Only able to open up to Zoey still to this day, even with her gone.
''You shouldn't feel ashamed or guilty for moving on; I would never want you to be unhappy and. If this Hazel woman makes you happy and less lonely, then go for it ''speaks Zoey. Knowing that if Liam does find love one day, she knows that this person could never take her place and maybe. If it turns out to be Hazel, then her boys will never be alone, and that woman would never take her place as Thomas's mom. More as a mother figure in her son's life, nothing more could change that.
''Are you sure? The only reason I haven't made my move is, I felt that I was betraying you ''tells Liam looking into her beautiful brown eyes that glisten in the sunlight.''You aren't betraying me, are looking for someone that makes you happy, the way that I used to, ''says Zoey wanting the best for her other half. However, that doesn't mean that she won't be keeping watch from a distance, making sure that no woman hurts her Liam either. ''Tom started playing soccer ''tells Liam, knowing why Thomas joined the soccer team to feel closure to his mom.''Mother like son, and I already knew that I have been watching from above. Our little boy following in my footsteps,'' says Zoey.
''If you were watching him from above, then that must mean? You have been watching me as well? wonders Liam curiously if Zoey witnessed the unexpected kiss between him and Zoey this morning? ''Yes, I was and, I have to admit that I was highly jealous than I thought. I was with another woman's lips touching yours, ''tells Zoey.
''I honestly never pictured myself with anyone else but you, ''says Liam. Thinking about June 8, when the two of them tied the knot, he was so nervous, and his palms were sweating. Waiting for her to walk down the aisle, their parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents got married in the same church.''I will always be your first love and your first wife; no matter what happens and you find another, Mrs.Brown will never take my place, ''says Zoey. ''I'm just glad that my best friend supports this, and thank you, baby, ''says Liam feeling better about possibly pursuing this something new.''Your welcome'' says Zoey, once he stands up to go meet up with Hazel after Zoey disappears from their unique bench.
After talking to Zoey, he has the urge of confidence to move forward with Hazel from that unexpected kiss this morning. Liam walks up to her in a white blouse with a wool grey cardigan, black jeans, leather boots, grey purse, and sunglasses on top of her brown hair shining in the sunlight.''Hazel, thank you for meeting me here after what happened this morning, ''says Liam sitting down on the gazebo steps along beside her. ''Your welcome, and I was glad when you called; I was getting the vibe when you walked away from me that you didn't like me or something, ''says Hazel.
''No, that's not true at all; I do like you. All of this starting over again is all new to me. Asking someone out, I haven't felt that way since I was seventeen ''tells Liam being honest for once and not running away when life gets complicated.''I get it I do, which is why I am willing. To move at a slow pace, ''says Hazel.
''Thank you, and I also don't want Thomas to know just yet, in case you know this doesn't work out, ''says Liam wishing to see if this will turn into a possible relationship, but he can't take a chance just yet.''For you, I am willing to wait, ''says Hazel smiling, just knowing that they are on the same page. Both not wanting to get hurt in the end.
''Good, oh, I left you a ticket for Thomas's play tomorrow with my mom at the inn, ''says Liam. Deciding to tell her about the play ticket that he left for her, after all, even though he can't predict what will happen a few months from now. Yes, it's scary to have all of those feelings for another person, but it's also wonderful and special, and he won't know what he is. Missing out if he doesn't see what's on the other end of the tunnel.
