Chapter 12: Chapter Twelve
''Alright, but will she be there at my play tomorrow night?'' asks Thomas wanting her there to cheer him on along with the rest of his fan club. However his biggest fan is gone, with his mom there he. Was never afraid or scared, but now that Zoey is gone. Thomas has lost that little spark in his eyes every time he is on stage.''Hazel said she was bud'' says Liam, unsure if Hazel wants to see him again after this morning. However, Liam hates that he is lying to his boy, but he can't tell Thomas the truth? No matter how much it kills him inside, by doing the one thing he always told his son, not to tell a lie, although it's for a good reason. To protect them from heartbreak all over again,'' alright, but can we leave her a ticket at the inn? Then grandma can give it to her? asks Thomas, really wanting Hazel there.
''Sure we can, ''says Liam, fibbing to his son to prevent any heartache when thinking that he is doing the right thing that any parent would do to protect their child. It's honestly Liam going backward instead of moving forward with his feelings for Hazel. Plus, Thomas seems to be getting attached to Hazel; maybe it is better to stay away until she leaves. That way, there is no hard feelings or disappointment from neither one of them.''Cool!, can we go to grandma's inn?'' asks Thomas. He loves going there because he knows that he can get everything from his grandma. No one can say no to that sweet puppy dog face with being an only child and grandchild. It's completely impossible, not too.
''Maybe later, okay ''says Liam trying to avoid seeing his mom at the moment. Even though that Liam knows in the end, he will make amends with his mom; after all, he is a momma's boy.''Please, please, can we go?'' begs Thomas with his puppy dog face, knowing that his dad can't resist that face and say no?''You know that I can't resist that face, so yes, we can go to grandma's ''says Liam.''Yes ''says Thomas smiling, while thinking to himself ''works every time''.They then head to the Reindeer Inn while inside of the inn. Avery is sorrowful and was only trying to help her little boy not get hurt again after everything that has happened.
Why can't Liam see that? When it's the truth, this isn't Hazel's home, and eventually, she will leave Peppermint. It's just a matter of time before the roads will open again. Avery then looks out the window and sees two familiar shadows before they walk in the door. It surprises her that Liam is even coming to visit considering their fight this morning, although it's probably Tom who wanted to see.''Grandma ''says Thomas as the door flies open with Liam walking in behind him, not as excited to be here. As his son is, ''there's my little man, why don't you get a cookie from the kitchen ''says Avery knowing that her son will wanna talk, which might lead to yelling. She doesn't want her grandson in the room if that happens,'' okay, ''says Thomas heading into the kitchen.
Avery then makes the first move,'' how did you get him to open up? On what was bothering him?'' asks Avery shocked that her little man is talking again. Just by talking to him, and that I can't help him. If he doesn't open up, ''says Liam, not looking his mom in the eye.''I get that you are still furious with me; I can't watch you get hurt again, ''says Avery.
''Mom, I get that you think that I am moving. However, too fast, I am a grown man, which is my decision to pursue the feelings. I have for Hazel ''says Liam being stern & firm for once with his mom and not backing down.'' I don't think that it's the right time, ''says Avery being a protective mama bear to her little cub, even if he does have a cub of his own. Liam will always be her baby boy, even if he is way taller than her.'' I'm not discussing this with you.'' says an infuriated Liam, not being able to understand why his mom doesn't get this. Hazel makes it not cloudy in his heart and brings out the sun. What mother wouldn't want her widowed son to be happy again?'
''You are in complete denial on how you are truly feeling and are covering your grief with your deep feelings for Hazel''says Avery. Wishing that he would deal with what he is feeling instead of pushing them away by starting something new.''That is completely untrue, and I am not in denial, mom; why can't you be happy for me ''says Liam as he goes to sit down in the next room. Avery sighs and goes into the next room and sits next to her baby boy.''Of course, I am happy for you, and I don't want you to get hurt if this doesn't work out. It kills me that you think that I don't want you to be happy. That's what every mother wants for their child, ''says Avery running her fingers through his hair, which she can do when he is sitting.
I get that, momma, I do, but if I don't take risks, even if It is scary, I don't know what will happen. I will never know what I am missing If I don't take a chance, ''says Liam. Even though he is scared, this is a risk that he is willing to take.
''Your right, and knowing Zoey, she would want you to be happy. So make your move with Hazel'' says Avery, wanting the best for her son.'' Who knows if she will even talk to me after what I did?'' questions Liam. Not sure how to make the next move after what happened?'' bud go see her and make your move ''encourages Avery.
''How can I? I bolted after I kissed her ''says Liam. Wondering what Hazel is thinking about him right now. ''Hazel gets it bud, she knows about Zoey and everything that happened ''says Avery. ''That kiss was a mistake; it's almost as my brain has a mind of its own. That's why I can't face her, ''says Liam.
