Chapter 10: Chapter Ten
After Liam leaves the inn and knows that he can't talk to his mom, Hazel & Zoey, he speaks to someone about it and everything to do with Thomas. When it dawns on him, there are two people he can talk to, Abby & Holly, so Liam then drives to the Candy Cane Cafe, two people that will back him up on moving forward with Hazel and seeing if this goes anywhere between the two of them. He then drives up to the cafe and heads inside '' Hey little sister can I get a coffee?'' asks Liam sitting down at the counter.''Sure thing, big brother, so I heard that you went off on mom at the inn. You wanna talk about?'' asks Holly pouring him a cup of coffee.
Liam then runs his hands down his face,'' I didn't go off on mom. I, for once, stood up for myself. I told her she was wrong and what does mom do. She calls you right away about it''says Liam, sighing, annoyed. However, he isn't going to cave and give in to his mom and for once admit that she is right. Maybe getting closer to Hazel will help him move on from Zoey, who knows, helps his grieving, and finally lets her go.''What even happened?'' asks Holly, noticing right away that something is going on with her big brother, the one. Who took care of her and protected her? Now it's time for Holly to do the same for Liam.
''I kissed Hazel''admits Liam to the reason why he looks the way he does right now. The cause of why he can't think straight, not knowing why he even kissed her in the first place? Almost as he didn't have control of his mind, & before he knew it, his lips were touching hers, but he had no intention of kissing her as to where he was he lost in the moment.''Okay, what happened after the kiss? As she is having a gut feeling of what happened. She realized since Hazel isn't with him right now that something isn't right. Plus, Liam would be smiling so something so much that it hurts. As she looks at all of those factors, something must be wrong, and it's the way that he looked after losing Zoey.
''Nothing, I just walked away, leaving her in the dust, who knows she could have found a way back to New York for all I know ''sighs Liam having doubts on how to move forward from this incident—scared to move forward and face Hazel, forgetting what you do when you like someone. I mean, he has been Zoey since he was seventeen. Never in a lifetime would he think after being with the same person for eighteen years would have to start all over again from the beginning with a whole another person.
''You need to go and talk to her, make a move. Tell her how you feel, I know that you are scared to put your feelings out there, but big brother, you are. Never going to know what will happen if you don't take a chance at finding love again, ''says Holly giving Liam so honestly sister advice and the advice that he needs to hear.''Thanks, Holly, it's nice that someone in this family doesn't think that I need to slow down, but I wish that were my only problem, but unfortunately, there is more ''says Liam. Feeling as his brain will explode into a million pieces between grieving over Zoey, unsure about his feelings for Hazel, everything going on with Thomas, running for Mayor. A lot is going on in that mind of his at the moment, thinking of everything that is going on.
''What other problems are you dealing with? asks Abby coming over to the two of them overhearing the conversation. Wondering if it has to do with the town gossip that she has been overhearing townspeople say when. They are coming to the cafe all morning?''Blake says that if Tom doesn't start talking before the play, he loses his spot as head elf''says Liam.''He can't do that ''says Holly refusing to let anyone take away her nephew's part in the Christmas play. Unfortunately, with him being the mayor, he can, that's why I am running for mayor, ''tells Liam.
''Looks like you will need a campaign manager, and you know who was the best hockey mom for the fundraiser's ''says Holly, hinting that he will need to make up with his mom if he wants to beat Blake Moore.''No, forget, mom, I know who I am going to ask, Holly, will be you be my campaign manager?'' asks Liam. When he has nothing to apologize for, all he was doing was standing up for himself to move forward with Hazel and see what happens. Trying to make his mindset from damaging to improving,
''Yes, I will; however, you should still make things right with mom; it will make tomorrow night at the play less awkward when we will all be in one row together, ''says Holly. Not wanting her nephew's big night to get ruined by the tension between her family.''I will think about it; also Tom's principal called me, had me come to his office and give me a list of child psychologists and therapists they think that he needs to be seen by someone like something is wrong with him ''says Liam having a, very annoyed and stressed tone in his voice. He is tired of being told by many people that there is something wrong with his son. When there isn't, he is a nine-year-old little boy who lost his mom last year. How else does everyone expect a little kid to cope and deal with this?
''Maybe it isn't such a bad idea for him to talk to someone, ''says Holly agreeing with what the principal suggested.''Wait are you, seriously taking his side? I thought you always said you had my back ''questions, Liam almost as there was. knife stabbing him in the back.'' I do but, it will help Tom cope. It isn't healthy for him to be holding things inside; it isn't good. For neither of you by the way ''tells Holly.''I am fine, and so is Thomas we both lost someone and. That we are grieving, sorry that we aren't grieving fast enough, ''says Liam walking out of the cafe furious and flustered. Heading back to the police department and walks into his office,'' ah, there you are, so how did it go with Blake?'' asks Caleb wondering and not knowing everything that has been going on since then.'' Let's see, and Blake told me if Tom doesn't start talking again. Before tomorrow night, he loses his spot as a head elf. Oh, and to top it off, his principal called me down for a meeting. To hand me a list of psychologists and therapists for him to talk to someone ''says Liam.
''Well, maybe it is a good idea, ''says Caleb, agreeing with the principal and Abby, plus sure that if his mom knew would agree as well.''Why is everyone taking his side on this?'' questions, Liam.'' Mainly because it's the right thing for him, and if my little sister were here. Zoey would agree that it's the best thing for him ''says Caleb. Liam then looks up ''I know what's best for my son, and I make the decision, ''says Liam walking out to get Thomas from school.
