Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Emerging from the Darkness

When Jim stepped out of Vintner's apartment, he looked up towards the sky. He scanned the tops of building looking for symbols. Each building stood out like a monument against the bright blue, cloudless sky. Jim eventually caught a glimpse of a cross sitting atop a tall spire. He began to walk towards it like a beacon. To get to the church beneath the cross, Jim had to walk across a highway and up a small hill. Sweat began to bead up on his head as he walked. The steeple holding up the cross became larger and larger with every one of Jim's steps. Jim didn't know what to expect when he got to the church. He had never actually been inside a church on a weekday. He had only ever gone on Sundays, the one day of the week when ordinary people dress in their best clothes and congregate in the church like so many animals flocking toward a watering hole.
