Chapter 44: Dinner at her house - 1

Walking back towards her chamber, Caroline had already started spinning theories in her head about him. Just that she wasn't able to fathom that he was different, way different.

Her chest tightened with the thought of being in the same room with him, for she didn't know his real intentions.

'What if he was not a human?'

'What if he was sort of like a character from X-men movies, super mutated to the extent of self-healing?'

But something inside her told her that no matter what, he wasn't someone who was going to hurt her.

Lost in her thoughts, she didn't even realize when she had reached her chamber and had stepped inside. It was only when she saw him turn back and smile in her direction that she realized it. And just like a reflex, she straightened her spine, wanting to convey a fake confident air around her when in fact, deep down, she was crumbling with doubts.
