Chapter 16: Normal Life

LUKE POV

I know that I have to return to my normal lifestyle as I get into the taxi to take me back to the airport. But my thoughts can not stop thinking about Mikayla. Such beauty does not come along so often. In my time of being the CEO of my father's company a lot of models have come my way but none of these women possesses the elegance that she has.

I would love to be in her presence again and I will do everything that I can to get to know her better. If her brother is such a good man, I can only imagine what kind of a woman she is. The flight back home is not long but it feels like hours on end. I can not seem to get my mind not to think about anything else but her.

I open up the door to my loft and make my way back to my room. Jet lag has completely set in and I can not seem to keep my eyes open. I fall down on my bed, falling sleeping with her still in my thoughts.

MIKAYLA POV

As I greet my dad and brother it feels as if I am leaving home again as I did so many years ago. It was not such a great feeling back then and it is not a great feeling today. I do not like to leave my dad and brother alone knowing that no one is going to eat healthily and look after them. But I did not have a choice as I have patients waiting for me in the hospital.

As I fly back home Luke seemed to appear in my thoughts frequently. I need to get my head back on straight as I am a respectful doctor and do not have time for boyfriends. But you can not seem to shake the feeling that you might be seeing him again very soon.

I can not afford to go back to my apartment just yet because I need to go and check on my patients. Just as I enter the hospital I see Jen waiting for me with hands on her hips as if I am in trouble.

"Doctor, you know that I love and adore you but didn't I tell you that you need to go on holiday and that I will only see you back here on Monday morning?"

I know that I am in trouble now and it is not a good thing to be on the wrong side of Jen. I love how she thinks that she is my boss. But I see her more as a caring friend.

"Yes, yes, I know that you said that but I just wanted to-"

"No, I am sorry, doctor but "doctor visiting" hours are already over. Please come back tomorrow morning…"

I know she only means well so I turn around on my heels, smiling, and go back home. If there was something wrong with my patients, I am sure that she would have let me come and check on them. I walk past the coffee shop where I sat at the bar that day, just reading and then Luke bumped into me. This changed my world. I can not believe that I got to see him on my so-called holiday in my hometown.

As I get into my bed and fall asleep, I have probably one of the best nights rest that I have had in a very long time. It does not take me long to get into the shower and wash the weekend away while getting ready for work. Then an idea jumps to mind. What if I go back to the coffee shop and maybe I get to run into Luke again.

I shake my head while I laugh as I am being silly. I should focus on my day's work. My patients need me.

LUKE POV

As usual, I am greeted by my assistant, Sally as she runs through my appointments for the day. It takes me a while to get into my work but it is not long before I get business done. I never wanted to be a CEO but my mom really wanted me to take over the company.

"I am sorry to bother you, sir but your next appointment is here"

I stand up and gestured to her to let them in. I stand up from behind my desk and put on my jacket. I take the necessary file from my desk and make my way to my seating area in my office. Then, just as the door opens I feel my heart starting to beat irregularly.

I have completely forgotten to take my pills and now I have to deal with this client.

"Mr. Walters it is such a pleasure to have this appointment with you today. How are you doing?"

He wants to know how I am doing and right now, at this moment, I'm not doing well. I need to get my pills from my drawer and somehow excuse myself. So, I stuck out my hand to give him a firm handshake.

"I am doing well and yourself? Please have a seat"

I try to look as normal as possible, as I make my way behind my desk again. Then as he takes a seat, I slowly open my drawer and put the pills in my jacket pocket.

"Would you like something to drink?"

I make my way to my bar fridge and open it to get myself a bottle of water. He requests something to drink and I take a drink for him as well. But then just as I turn around something that feels like somebody hitting me hard on my chest sends a shock through my heart.

I feel as I physically jump because of the shock but that is not the only reason. The pain is unbearable. The drinks in my hand fall to the floor as I grab my chest trying to hold onto my heart. I can not help falling to my knees in a deep, unearthly pain. It seems as if my life is flashing before my eyes and there is nothing that I can do to stop it.

"Aahhh!!"
