Chapter 13: Breakfast

LUKE POV

I know that I need to get out of here but I do not want to do it as abruptly as I did it the other day. I want to make my exit as normal as possible. But this beauty of a woman has asked me if I am doing okay and I am not but I can not let her know that.

Then an idea spring to mind. I decide to act as if my phone is ringing and I need to answer it. So, I pat down my jacket with my hand and lift my finger in the air as if to say that she needs to stop talking and that I need to excuse myself. I take my phone out in front of them and put it to my ear while I walk out of the kitchen.

Luckily for me, it seems as if everyone understands my hand gestures. They all stay in the kitchen and I can walk out of the front door with my fake phone call. I walk as fast as I can to my car and sit inside it.

I open my glove compartment and quickly swallow two pills. I do not want to stay out in my car for too long as they would start to suspect something.

MIKAYLA POV

Something is going on with this man. I don't know exactly what it is but he just acts so awkwardly around me. I love every minute that I spend with him. He really didn't look so well but I guess it might just be the doctor in me and I probably just imagined it.

I can not stop myself from following him to the living room and then looking out of the window to see if he is okay. I know that he is on the phone but then when I see him in the car the phone is not next to his ear. That is strange he must have finished his call already.

I feel like a teenage girl spying on her crush. I can not believe that I am acting this way. I shake my head and then go back to the kitchen, only to be greeted by two men with questions in their eyes. I know what they want but I am not going to give them answers now.

"So, do you know Mr. Walters?"

Of course, it is my brother who doesn't have one hair of shame on his head that asked the first question.

"Let me just stop you right there. I am not answering anything until Luke has left and don't even think of asking me while he is here"

They still want to ask more questions but I just lift my hand and look the other way. At least my family knows when I am serious and that they should not poke the bear. We then continued to sit in silence and finish our breakfast.

It's been a while and it doesn't look like Luke would come back. So, I stand up and walk to the living room. Just then the front door opens and I am so glad to see Luke coming back again.

LUKE POV

I'm sitting in the car trying to calm my heart down and hoping that the pills will work fast. I close my eyes and try to relax. I really do not want to disappoint myself again by not spending a bit of time with her.

The short amount of time that we spoke was more meaningful than any other company that I have kept with anyone before. I really want to get to know this woman and find out if there can be something for us.

I feel my pulse again and I can feel it slowing down. I can not help the smile that is forming on my face because I know that now I can be in her presence without running away. I did not expect her to be in this house so I knew I didn't have to drink my pills.

What a surprise it was when I came to see Brandon and here I find the beautiful Mikayla. I take a deep breath and slowly walk towards the front door. I open the door and there she stands in the living room.

It is like everything happens in slow motion when I see you again. Her long locks of brown hair just softly lying over her shoulders. Her light green eyes just staring deep into my soul. I can not help being captivated by this exquisite woman.

"I am sorry that I took so long. The guy just couldn't say goodbye"

"Oh, that is quite alright"

"You must know... I didn't know that you stayed here..."

MIKAYLA POV

I study his face as he says that he didn't know that I stayed here and I realized that he's being very serious. But there is something else that I see in his eyes as well and it is a pure humbleness. I have not met a lot of humble men in my life before and god knows my ex-boyfriends didn't have a humble hair on their heads.

I think that is one of the things that is pulling me towards him. Of course, his looks are something out of a fairy tale but that is not the thing that attracts me so. When he speaks to me it is with the utmost respect and I guess I have that respect missing in my life.

"Oh, I know...I know, you were only here for Brandon. How could you have possibly known that I stay here anyway?"

Then he smiles as if he is relieved by my answer. That smile can melt the toughest metal. I feel my heart starting to race as I realized it is only the two of us in the living room.

"That is good…very good. I just needed you to know that"

LUKE POV

Suddenly, I realized that I have just burst into this house unannounced, in the morning, while they are busy eating breakfast. They are probably in the middle of some kind of family time. So, I started to walk towards the front door again.

"I am sorry I did not know that I interrupted a family breakfast. It was really rude of me to do that. I am going to go now and let you guys have some family time. Once again I'm really sorry"

"NO! Wait!"
