Chapter 40: Chapter 39: How do I continue? [Davis]
"I'm going out for a bit okay?" No one was awake, but Davis still felt the need to say it. He went out into the woods and just shot at a tree. He didn't know why he was there and he didn't know why his arrows seemed to veer off course every single time. He just kept shooting and when he ran out of arrows created some with his Mana until he exhausted his supply and had to pick up the arrows he had already used.
'You really are pathetic. They'll end up abandoning you too. You can't even shoot a tree, so you better not even think about trying to go up against that monster again.' Davis nocked another arrow and let it fly, but it missed again. He walked over to it to see a bear right by his arrow. He nocked another arrow, but when he looked up he didn't see a bear. Instead what he saw was the helpless face of Kai, as he saw his friend get sent flying.
"Hey! Wake up, you know that as an archer you have to properly take aim right?" He was shaken back to reality by a woman clad in skinned animals.
"W-What?" The woman seemed about 12, or 15 years older than Davis.
"I said to be a proper archer you have to take aim. You have to be steady regardless of what you feel because the enemy isn't going to wait for you."
"Yeah yeah, I've heard it a thousand times. If I'm not calm and miss my shot all my comrades will die-"
"Yeah that's true, but if you miss your shots, not just your comrades but you're going to die." It was like a bombshell had been dropped, as Davis pondered this. He knew that it was something even a child could understand, but this new perspective gave him this refreshing feeling. He gripped his bow and steeled his nerves before kicking a tree. He watched multiple leaves fall, as he nocked multiple arrows and shot them piercing many leaves before quickly firing more shots off. When he looked at the ground not a single leaf was there.
"Thank you and sorry–where is she? Did she not ex-"
"No! I was just talking to this bear here."
"It's friendly?! Nevermind that for now…but thank you. My name is Davis, I'd like to thank you for your help."
"No problem, kid."
"What's your name?"
"Mine? Oh yeah right. My name is Atalanta, Slayer of the Calydon Boar." Davis' mouth dropped, as she walked back to her home while waving.
