Chapter 39: Chapter 38: First Defeat [Daisy]

"Let this be a lesson to all of you. Never try to cross someone beyond your imaginations." As the man said this a trickle of blood flowed down his cheek and hit the floor, "You are extraordinary! What was your name again? Doesn't matter, I'll memorize what you look like! Your perseverance is truly admirable!" A dark portal appeared, as he disappeared. Daisy went over to check up on Valor, as she sent a healing pulse through his body.

"Please! Don't die on me! You can't, okay? Why did you take that hit for me?!"

"I...feel..like that's a bit obvious...you're my friend...ugh...I'll help carry the others…." Valor held his sheath and started to heal Kai. The process was slow, but soon he was able to stand.

'Val shouldn't be pushing himself like this. Out of everyone he was the one who fought for the longest in close-quarters.'

"Just stay down! Rest up! We're safe for now and I can carry everyone!"

"Nah, don't worry I'll be able to move...my ribs are just a bit bruised…" Valor's eyes had a flash of pain pass over them before he stood up and carried Jay and Leon, "Besides Jay's as light as a feather."

"O-Okay...but if you feel like you can't keep going tell me so I can heal you." Daisy's hands were trembling, as she grabbed Eunice and placed her into the caravan. Soon, everyone was in and Valor was steering the horses.

"You'll be okay! We just have to get far away from here and buy some Mana potions at the general store."

'Keep healing damn it!'

"Stop healing! You're going to #>×&;." Valor's screams became muffled, as she continued to heal. Blood started to fall from her nose, as tears of blood ran down her face. The next thing she knew, her head had hit the wooden floor of the caravan.

[???]

"You scolded me for almost dying twice and here you are trying to kill yourself to heal them? Talk about a double standard here." She opened her eyes to find Valor standing over her with some stew, "Eat up before I knock you out again...wait that'd be counterproductive…"

"What happened?" Daisy noticed how parched her throat was as Valor gave her some water.

"Well you tried to heal everyone and almost died. I noticed and knocked you out, then paid some local priests to heal you. I gave you some Mana potions to keep your body from breaking down from Mana Deficiency." Valor said before stuffing Daisy's mouth with stew. He let her chew before giving her some more before she put her hand up.

"What about the others?" Valor's hair created a shade that hid his gold eyes, as he spoke slowly, "They…"

'D-Don't tell me...did they..'

"They all lived thanks to yours truly! They're in the other room, so don't worry and just rest up while I take care of you. Promise me something though."

"What?"

"Promise me that you'll care about yourself some more." Valor left the room, as Daisy laid back down and thought back to her life. She had never truly connected with someone...since...those times...and..

'No...let's just get some rest like Val said.' The next morning, Valor had returned and helped her up.

"I'm better already, so don't worry too much. I'm a lot stronger than I looked! See?" She stood up and did a cartwheel to prove her health before Valor sighed.

"Alright, but try not to stress yourself too much. This loss has put everyone in a bummer of a mood."

"Why? We all survived."

"This was our first ever loss and an undeniable one. He let us live on a whim and showed us where we properly stood." Daisy nodded before following Valor to the next room.

"I should've hit with a….then...I could've restrained him with...he would've broken out of it…." Jay was whispering while biting his nail.

"Hey! I mean look we're all alive and can you even beat someone dressed so sharply! Hahahaha!" Leon laughed loudly, as he forced it.

"Damn it...damn it….damn it….damn...it…" Kai simply repeated the same phrase while clutching his blanket.

"..." Eunice glared at the ceiling while playing with a knife in her hand.

"Fucking bastard next time I see him...I'll definitely kill him." Davis clutched his bow while most likely imagining everything he would do to the old man once he found him again.

'Everyone's...so upset...Valor seems to be doing fine though.' Valor may have looked fine, but once Daisy looked closely she noticed how angry and sad he was from how hard he clenched his fists and his eyes. His hand had started to bleed from how hard he had been clenching it. He fed each of them before leaving to who knows where. Daisy just sat down on a chair and sighed before leaving to her room.
