Chapter 21: Marriage Arc?! [Jay]

As they began to pack up the village was stitching itself back together, as if the whole town was a living monster. It was strange and horrifying that a blast mist similar to the demonspawn they had fought before dove into the center of the lake and suddenly it was as if nothing had ever happened to the town. For a second, Jay thought to go back and ask the demon for what had happened to his town or what memories he was missing, but fear held him back.

That pain he had felt when that demon came was unnatural; it didn't kill, but the feeling was enough to make him pass out. The team grouped up and agreed to never come back to this place or speak of what happened here. In the back of his mind however, part of Jay wondered what the demon had done to Daisy's family.

As the group had traveled to the town of Μάρμαρο they learned that the quest had been completed so the demon that town could create more and more demons. Dejected and now more broke than ever they stuck around the town of Μάρμαρο for smaller quests. Soon it was going to be Axel's wedding, so the group began to head over to the town of Lyre.

"Look I'm just saying if we hadn't bought the strange painting we wouldn't be here," Jay mocked as they sat in the crowded caravan. "For once I wish I was driving!"

"It looked nice though and would be a great gift for them," Davis said. Jay turned his head to the piece of art that had colored splatters all over it with no feature that looked normal.

"Don't you get it, Jay! It's art! You have to interpret it with your heart and soul!" Valor declared.

"It's dumb, I don't see the point," Jay said.

"It reminds me of an open meadow with flowers surrounding as I bask in the sunlight or a warm spring day," Eunice said.

"Huh.. weird coming from an edgelord like yourself," Kai said. Valor cowered in the corner once this was said.

"What did you get for a gift then, at least the art is interpretable." she replied.

"Uhh… Mugs."

The party filled with silence, before slowly laughing to themselves.

"You got the most basic gift."

"WHAT WOULD YOU GET. I LOOKED AT THESE MUGS AND THOUGHT THOSE TWO WOULD LIKE IT, AND THEY FORM A HEART WHEN THEY ARE PUT TOGETHER," Kai said defending himself.

"I got them matching daggers! That way she won't get kidnapped without at least being able to stab the kidnapper once!"

"She blew off a few of their heads. Did no one tell you she was a skilled mage?" Davis replied.

"Uhhh...no, but I also got these matching bracelets…" Valor looked like he was a bit sick.

"Did the cult capture as many mages as possible? Did no one..."

"Oh sorry it slipped my mind," Jay replied.

"Anyways, did you guys really need to buy this many gifts, you guys barely earned back any money?" Daisy questioned

"Well it's for my friend's weddings, I'm more than happy to gift them things," Davis replied.

"If I were to get married, then would I get gifts too! Are we all friends too?!"

With a light laugh, Davis replied, "Yeah."

"HEY! We do be here guys," Leon yelled back to the others

As Jay began to help collect the presents he saw the whole town was engulfed in flames leaving everyone dead, but after blinking he was back. The town was fine, everything was fine…

The marriage was boring but it was the first one he had ever been to, so he decided to remain silent and stay throughout the whole marriage. On the other hand Valor and Leon were excitedly looking through the food they were serving. Daisy and Eunice were looking at the decorations and the presents they were serving. While Davis and Kai were smiling ear to ear. To say Jay felt out of place was an understatement, he felt entirely by himself, despite all that was happening.

The group soon got together at a table and they were all excitedly chatting about the party. Almost everyone by this point had congratulated Axel, so when he went up to do the same he stitched together the words that the others had used. "Congrats… the wedding is nice… I'm happy for you," and as those words left his mouth it sounded wrong to him and Axel seemed to agree.

"Hey are you alright man? Not too drunk, or nauseous? The drinks weren't spiked were they?"

"Uhh no…" Jay said, suddenly breaking out of the small trance. "Just felt off ever since we got back here."

"Hmmm… welp hope you feel better."

"Thanks he said," as he walked away. As the party ended, Jay took his teammates, who definitely got drunk whether intentional or not, back to the small inn they had rented before the party.

Jay thought to himself, "I look human, I think I'm a human, but why don't I feel like one… Something's missing.'
