Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Calm Before the Storm [Leon]
Collapsing onto the floor the party decided to take a much needed break after all that had happened that night.
"Man, I'm in the mood for some pizza! Bodacious!" Leon and Valor laughed.
"Teach me your ways sensei!" Valor's eyes sparkled.
The rest of the party either ignored the two or facepalmed. They all sat around a campfire outside of the wreckage that was once the town.
As Leon's mind began to drift he thought back to how this all started, 'Why did Echnida want me to follow him? Jay is a strange creature, he isn't human, yet she knew him to be a monster. It was similar to how he was a beast-man, but stranger, as Echidna had no control over him.'
Jay began snapping his fingers in front of Leon's face, as he had been unknowingly staring daggers at him. Pushing the fingers away from him he asked, "What?"
"I don't know you just seem lost in thought? Are you tired?"
"Yeah, you've been weird for a while. Did you eat something bad? Did you have a situation down there because of the demon?" Valor asked, stepping back.
"Noooooo, not me. But that strange smell is coming from you though."
"Hey that's my manly musk!"
In disgust Daisy replied, "Never say that again."
"Fine! It's probably the sweat and blood from the Adrenaline Flurry I used earlier. It kind of messed up my body, but I should be fine after I've slept."
"Can we actually talk about that demon though?" Davis asked.
"Yeah it was crazy! We could've died! I was so cool and we almost died. It was so sick!" Valor punched the air.
"No it was terrifying! We almost died, despite your attitude you almost passed out! And for what? The possibility of having one of our questions answered?"
"Speaking of which, what would you guys want answered?" Jay asked nonchalantly.
"Do you think I'm cool?" Valor asked.
"I don't think the demon would care to answer such an obvious question," Jay answered.
"Ohh and what might that be?"
"No."
"To be fair that's an opinion, although one I can get behind, so the demon will only answer from its perspective," Kai replied
"For me it would be is there any corrupted nature in Greece,"
"....man you didn't have to be so mean. I was just trying to lighten the mood about this whole shitty situation..."
"That's actually a decent question, although the demon might just send more demons there to corrupt it more."
"What are these demons after?" Eunice asked.
"Who knows… where are they coming from anyways? I know some places other than Greece have many demons, but for such a large portal to just open?"
"Most likely Tartarus," Valor said, "I think the other places in the Underworld are quite lovely."
"Other religions may think differently."
"The fact that these holes are opening at all is an issue. What if one of the monsters from a myth escapes Tartarus?"
"We have to get a move on, then. We have to get stronger out of necessity now. We barely made it out of this one, so we have to do whatever we can to make sure we aren't put in another situation where luck plays the biggest role." Valor's gaze seemed colder and his voice was deeper.
"Wow sounds deep, who did you take it from?" Leon asked.
With a sigh Valor answered, "No one, like you said we almost died and I don't like to imagine you guys dying." They all looked at Valor, strangely.
"What's to say we even stick together anymore?" Eunice asked, "I mean me and Daisy have been doing alright for two people."
"Yeah, but sticking with a larger group would be better, neither you or I can tank like Kai afterall," Daisy replied and to this Eunice nodded in agreement.
"But seriously how can you guys live like this?" Davis asked, "It hasn't been a month yet and we almost died!"
"I don't really have anywhere else to go and anyone else, so it's either this or being alone. I hate being betrayed by random people, sooo" Valor took a bite of some random fish he found.
"Welp being with a group is easier than working alone, more likely to survive." Leon chimed in, of course he had his own reason.
"Didn't Jay get kidnapped twice?" Davis questioned.
"Yeah, but he's alive isn't he?" Leon smirked.
"It's an adventure, fear of death lingers, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy the moments we have now," Jay put in.
"Well that's slightly morbid." Kai said as he finished up his meal
"It's more positive than he's usually been." Valor reasoned.
"Not true… I think?" Jay replied
"Either way, we still need to go to Axel's wedding." Davis said.
"Ohhh yeah I forgot about that. We have some time...we can help the townspeople get back on their feet and leave right?" Valor looked at everyone.
"Yeah," they all agreed as they began to take shifts as night went on, before they all soon fell asleep.
'Valor's voice changed, I wonder if he did that intentionally, but Jay still hasn't shown any care for religion at all… How strange, maybe he's a monster from a different continent.'
