Chapter 3: CHAPTER TWO

Sometimes quite people do have a lot to say, they are just being careful about who they open up to (Unknown)

Another moment passes between Eros and Scarlette, she couldn't help but ponder over the fact he hadn't given her his last name, she didn't know if that would be the worst thing or not but it did make her feel as though he had secrets, secrets she did want to know, or if he had thought it wasn't as important to share that information with a total and utter stranger, "Eros, like as in the Greek God of Love, funny, you definitely don't suite the name", breaking the silence with what seemed like an innocent comment caused Eros's face to sulk, "if only you knew how wrong you are about that one".

She didn't understand the way that caused her heart to hurt, an unknown sensation of getting to know coursed through her veins, yet she didn't want to seem eager either, the thought of him, being so vague, caused an ache in her chest, it had her thinking he loved someone so much that when she left, it turn his heart into a destroyed part of his body that just beats to live, she didn't understand why that made her heart ache from jealousy, that it wasn't her who he loved and that surprised her, more than she'd like to think.

"I'd like to know but you always so ambiguous about yourself", Eros chuckled carelessly at her prurient manner, 'I have the slightest clue what you mean", she wanted to ask him why he spoke in such poised English, like one of a different era yet he ran away from things that made him smile like any modern man, she wanted to ask him who had hurt him so badly that if he stayed happy he'd lose it, there were so many things she wanted to ask him, so much so she just remained silent, the questions at the tip of her tongue, "You haven't told me your last name, do you think I may be some kind of stalker or a serial killer", Eros didn't know how to answer that question, how could he tell her as a primordial god he didn't need one, "it's because I don't have one", Scarlette didn't understand how he couldn't have had one, after all, she was sure his parents had one.

"What do you mean? I'm not quite sure I understand, surely your parents must have surnames so how could you not?", he was pained at this question, it's not like he didn't have parents, but he felt more like he didn't than anything else, he felt alone, like all he did was work for his mother's benefit, he never knew what families support, a mothers' warmth and a father's love was, he had been alone for a very long time, he let out a deep sigh, "I'd have to have parents in order for that to happen", Scarlette looked baffled by this revelation, unsure of what to make of these turn of events, "I'm an orphan, grew up in foster care, never met my parents, don't even know who they are", Eros hated lying, especially to her, but in due time she'd know, and this wasn't that time, he detested seeing agony in her eyes, yet the look in her eyes didn't show pity, it showed admiration and yet hurt that he had to go through life alone, and for this he couldn't be more grateful that she didn't take pity on him or feel sorry for him.

"My parents died a few years after I was born, murdered, the case is still unsolved, so I know what it's like to grow up alone, despite me having my grandparents, it's not the same as your mom and dad being there", there was so much more she wanted to hear him say and so much more she wanted to say to him, the things she remembered, the things she dreamt of, but she just stayed silent as Eros placed his hand over hers, her tears welled up in her eyes, so she began blinking rapidly to stop the flow of pain that would run down her cheek, she didn't understand how easy it was for her to open up about her parents to him so quickly, despite him being a stranger she had spoken to for a few hours, but she couldn't help but think about how he too felt the loss of parents they never knew.

"I guess one damaged person recognised the other", Scarlette laughed through tears, happy he tried breaking the tension, "nobody said having friends would be easy", Eros was startled at this, she considered him a friend, nothing made him smile more than that one word, surely they were getting closer, "I will assume being friends is a good thing, although in this generation it's called getting friend-zoned by a beautiful woman, and according to every gentlemen around the world, it's not a good sign, is it?", Scarlette laughed out loud, amazed at his choice of words, "Nobody said anything about you having a permanent residence in that so called friend-zone Eros", Scarlette didn't know she was flirting until the words left her mouth, the smirk that had formed on Eros's face gave her the answer she needed to that statement and a blush coated her cheeks, she could feel the heat in her cheeks spreading and quickly looked forward towards the swings were a small girl played as her mother watched her.

Looking at her watch on the right side of her hand, she choked out on her palazzo startled, again she was late, she was interning as a teacher's assistant for afternoon classes at a local college, she cursed internally at her unprofessional behaviour and for that her best friend, who was also waiting would kill her if her clumsiness didn't do it first, "I have to leave, but I hope to see you again sometime", Eros, startled at her rushed behaviour simply got up from the seat and extended his hand so she could shake it, but she shocked him by wrapping her arms around him and hugging him, they both felt a shock which caused Scarlette to unwrap her arms, "who would have guessed static would hate me", Scarlette chuckled before tucking a strand of hair behind her ears and smiling at him, before she waved bye and walked away.

Eros hadn't imagined in a million years he would choose to make his presence known to her, the plan for him was to stay away and never look back, yet as always he didn't have the self-restraint to do so. This much was true, that he had to make this lifetime the last one, he had to do everything he could to stop the curse, he needed too, for her, always.

As Scarlette ran to the bus stop, she disposed of her coffee cup and waited, thinking of Eros, she was so lost in thought she barely registered the bus was infront of her, the driver honked startling her before she apologised and climbed on board, the journey was quick as she was so lost in thought that time skipped forward faster than she'd like to think.

Walking or rather running back into college grounds, Scarlette couldn't stop smiling despite her tardy behaviour, her friend checked his watch as she approached and gave her an annoyed look, she gave him an apologetic smile, "where the hell have you been, do you realise how late you are?", he was worried about her, and a thought crossed his mind assuming she hadn't adjusted to the life of a whole new lifestyle and city, she waved him off and gave him a cheeky grin, baffled, he linked her arm with his and pulled her towards the college grounds, "I lost time, catching up with an old friend", she didn't understand why she wanted to keep Eros's name a secret, despite Nathaniel being the closest best friend she had, someone she couldn't keep secrets from yet, this undeniable feeling to secrecy, kept her lips sealed, "friend huh, or friend-friend?", he playfully winked at her, giving herself away by blushing profusely as she nudged his shoulders playfully, " shut up, we have delinquents to help, let's go, we already late as it is", she said quickly.

"And who made us late again?", he replied cheekily, "I'm just going to walk away before I end up in jail", she remarked, Nathaniel let out a laugh as they proceeded into the classroom, already regretting the art of instilling knowledge to pre-teenagers.
