Chapter 40: Rock and Stone Till it's Done

Alright they are talking that's good. Now they are pointing at me, some people are shouting and seem to be arguing that's not good. You know I could be helpful to the conversation if I were allowed to be added in, as my eyes drill through the backs of my traveling companions.

I could tell that there was some real trouble happening beyond those walls the smell of blood was overwhelming so was the smell of smoke and . . . . sulfur I think? Honestly my senses were being overwhelmed a little right now. This was the first time I had been amongst so many people, well living and conscious people that is since I have been in this body.

Shouting and talking continued, some looked like they were ready to brawl with each other over what was being said. Come on let me in, whats going on. I moved a claw over between the two who had their backs to me and tapped the ground trying to get their attention. The crowed stiffed and those with weapons put forward the pointy ends. The two of them looked back at me and I moved the claw back to my head indicating that I wanted to talk.

A minute later a mind link was connected and I got a rundown of the situation.

"Many of the people here are not willing to trust you with going into the town, they are worried that you may cause even more damage to the town and kill any other survives that could not escape. I was trying to convince them that you were under some kind of control but that has gone like a breeze on the wind now that you have shown your autonomy and they consider me a liar." (Alanda)

"Well I am sorry for ruining the plan but how was I supposed to know anything when I was not in the loop? Besides we have bigger problems to deal with beyond those walls. Can you try to rush a decision quickly?"

Getting a sigh in response to my question the connection was essentially put on hold. The link was still up but I could not send or receive anything like a mental barrier had just gone up between us. Quite rude if I do say so. But fine I can deal with it, she must still be sore from me going berserk and trying to hurt . . . kill them its understandable. Its just that we were pressed for time and talking was solving nothing. I am a huge answer to the problem they have found themselves in, what more could they ask for right now.

In the time that Alanda was putting forward the idea again with some things changed the situation was rapidly deteriorating. If one were to look at the top of the wall one could see some movement now compared to before. Near the gate more guards bunched up against the massive entrance seeming to brace it from the outside. Scattered stone and wood were now landing in piles being flung from the other side of the wall into the see of tents of displaced residents.

Panic was taking hold of those that had gathered around our small group and those that were able bodied made their way back to the wall as quickly as possible some not making it to the wall being crushed by thrown debris instead. The main guy who was talking for the towns people shouted to the group said something to Alanda and began running for the gate.

Vuander took his weapon and followed the leader dodging the debris on the way. Alanda turned around and opened her mind again fanatically giving me my options.

"It appears those that attacked the town are now making their final push. I was not able to come to a consensus with the guard captain for you to help, but it is not as if I can make you do anything. You were sent here to help my husbands people right? So please save these people! All I ask is for you to keep your senses about you do not lose yourself."

Well I said options but I don't really have any in this situation. I mean do I really flee in this predicament, that was never on the table to begin with.

"Alright I'll do what I can."

Gotta keep my head in the game. I have to much riding on this to fail here, time to save some lives! I reached my claws to the side of me to cut the ropes tying me to the cart and started making my way to the wall. I made sure I had a wide space between me and the panicked populace scrounging for cover.

Now that I got close enough the wall did not seem that big. My head could crest over the top if I angled my body correctly. I could see all the small moving shapes on the wall, all of them being small boulders with arms and legs of other small connecting rocks. All of them were moving around ripping bricks out of the foundation of the wall and throwing them down over the inside edge of the wall towards the town.

When I careened my head over small shrill noises burst forth from these small creatures and they either began to flee or throw the stones they had been ripping out of the wall at me. I powered up my claw and sunk it into the stone giving me some leverage. I lifted myself awkwardly over the wall killing many of these small boulders with my immense weight alone as I rolled. I ended up destroying the part of the wall that I put my claw into but I got into the town, I will ask for forgiveness later.

Landing on the other side of the wall I was immediately assaulted by the same refuse that was being thrown over the wall a second ago. Large meat and stone constructs that looked like hunched over apes that reached about my height but a little shorter were the culprits that had been throwing these things.

Honestly speaking getting hit with these things really did not hurt me at all. I kinda felt like I was being hit with large pillows real hard is all. Those smaller boulders near my feet were smacking me and throwing as well. Other than that, smoke and fire dotting my view along with collapsed building and corpses that were being dragged seemingly to one place.

I stomped on several of them to clear my footing and charged forward swinging and biting. Seeing that their projectiles were not effective they went with melee instead and man those fists did not feel like pillows. I had bisected one with a wide sweep of my claw while I grabbed another in my jaws and crunched down shattering the stone and flesh between my teeth. Thats when I got clocked across the snout.

Ow damn, these rocks are harder than I thought. More of these creatures began to gather around me as time went on. This is going to take a long time, but I think the giant was harder to fight. I will be able to keep to my word this time.
