Chapter 5: Chapter 4

'Well another day, another battle.' I was surprised when President Adar survived the initial strikes, I figured he would be a higher priority. But what surprised me even more was the fact he offered to surrender to the Cylons while his military is still fighting. We are barely even really losing from what I could see, yes we had taken some bad initial loses but we haven't reached anywhere near critical levels yet but thankfully he at least didn't offer to unconditionally surrender or something crazy.

I had been taking the time to try to recover or at least communicate with the families of my crew as well as the families of the crews of my little flotilla I figured that may at least buy me some good will incase something happens. That was met with differing degrees of success as the worlds are chaotic at the moment even the ones that haven't been hit hard or at all by nukes.

Every ship commander allocated at least one Raptor each for retrieval as well as one Battlestar acting as a carrier for all the Raptors and a sort of way station for the families until they can be unloaded on one of the refitted freighters that had a jump drive.

I had spoken with the commanders of the other ships and we agreed that if the colonies surrendered and we could get our ships crews families onboard, that we would jump away but only if it came to that or an overwhelming defeat.

Thankfully it hasn't come to that yet but we have been preparing regardless. My respect for Admiral Nagala is the only real thing keeping me here. He is an old Warhawk and is doing everything he can to keep the Cylons at bay but he can only do so much for so long and at this point the Colonial Fleet is maybe just above half strength. We had lost more ships in the initial attack than I actually thought we had, though something amusing did happen in the last few days. Commander Adama managed to bring his rearmed but heavily damaged Galactica to the shipyards escorting dozens of civilian ships.

Reports indicate he destroyed two Basestars protecting that civilian fleet. I suppose that is the difference, in canon there was simply nothing, no hope and no chance of any kind of victory, but now while I don't believe victory is possible, there is a chance for a tactical retreat at minimum.

It makes me wonder how far canon actually made it. Obviously Lee or Roslin managed to convince the aging Commander to get the fleet of civilian ships to safely, I could even see that Botanical ship that the tv series showed getting nuked as the fleet jumped still intact. That heartened me a bit as that was simply a horrifying scene to be happening in real life. It also horrified me more that I forgot about that fleet of ships that was destroyed though I have been slightly busy dealing with everything else going on.

—————————————

It has felt like I had been in this new life for years now though it has still been less than a week. Myself and the commanders in my fleet have been making plans as the war deteriorated further and further into madness, the civilian government that I thought had survived turned out they ate a nuke the next day, leaving only Roslin in the civilian chain of command which I found amusing. I simply didn't care enough to read the report at the time.

I had pretty much limited myself to pulling civilians from Caprica, Scorpia, Aerelon and Tauron, those were my choices both for people and livestock animals alike. I thought of caprice and scorpia more along the lines of progressive though in Tauron and Aerelons cases it was more because they were farmers and could deal with the animals and plant/seeds we were pulling off the worlds, I basically abandoned the idea of saving the more religious fanatically inclined worlds as I didn't need that crap in my fleet. One of those worlds were even against medicine… I mean come on!

I have been continuing to send out my Raptors to find civilian jump capable ships especially the larger freighters that can hold passengers or materials for the possible evacuation that may soon be necessary or having the shipyard adding jump drives to already existing ships. It really shouldn't be needed to be said but I also had to deal with the shipyard commander, that we would evacuate his people and their families if and or when the time came to up and go that should go without saying though as we will need people who can build such things in the future anyways.

—————————————-

This brings me to the here and now. I know in the Battlestar Galactica series that there was a lot of religious hocus pocus going on in the background but I didn't really have that luxury though I have been going through all the religious texts and artifact bullshittery that I could find until I ran across something that stood out more than anything else…. It was a fairly large 'stone' object shaped like a ring with some kind of crystals and symbols on it that weren't really understood. It was named the Doorway of the lords of Kobol.

That rang alarm bells throughout my poor beleaguered mind. The only thing going through my mind really at the moment was 'fuck! fuck! fuck! this is a crossover!' I'm thankful though that I was in my own quarters at the time I was going through those things because I most certainly was zoned out for an unknown amount of time.

This revelation forced me to recheck every artifact in the archive in far greater detail than I had previously done, originally I was just looking for the arrow of Apollo but frakk all now, I need to look through everything personally as nobody else would have a clue what to look for.

If the Gao'uld, Asgard and god forbid the Alterrans exist here as the Stargate suggests, their technology is frighteningly more advanced than ours, I don't even know if my entire fleet can crack the shields of a single older model Ha'Tak Capitol ship.. no I will need to play this carefully to say the least unless this is 150,000 years ago like the ending of Battlestar Galactica but I have a feeling that that would be considered unsporting and that I am not exactly that lucky.
