Chapter 2: Chapter I

The sun rose above the trees causing a golden light to shine through into Alari's bedroom. She stirred awake just a couple moments before the demon butler knocked on the door, "Young lady, I'm assuming you're awake already?" She called him in, confirming his assumption.

He smiled softly as he went to her closet and chose an outfit for her. A white top with long sleeves that widened at the end, and light blue skinny jeans. Setting them at the end of her bed, he turned so his back was facing her. He began to recite the plans fore her day.

"Today is October 12th of 2023. The time is 8:22 a.m. Your plans today are to tend to the humane society just in the middle of town, proceed to pay bills, and apply for a job. May I ask why you need a job, m'lady?" The tall demon spoke in a soft tone, his voice deep but yet not. Seductive in a way, as well as intimidating.

'Like an alpha.' Thought Alari as she changed. He's been her butler for nearly 3 years now. She finished her college courses, having a master's in fine arts. She planned on going out to find a studio or to team up with a business, produce art from home, and ship it to them with half of the royalties.

"I'd like to make sure my family's fortune doesn't deplete itself." She spoke calmly. "After all, cities of England are quite expensive to visit. Even for myself."

The demon nodded. "Understandable."

The Blood Estate was located in the countryside about 2 hours out from the Town of Liverpool. The home is decorated in wolf statues, and a garden on the left side of the property. Alari could never understand how but Nevermore managed to grow black roses in the garden, yellow tulips dotted along the bushes.

Alari finished changing and Nevermore turned to look at her, he smiled at the mortal in front of him. "You look rather ravishing, young lady." She blushed lightly and thumped his chest gently, "Shut up."

He chuckled and walked with her as she left downstairs to get some breakfast. She was mostly independent, doing most things herself regarding cooking and some cleaning. He accepted this as he never normally questioned her ways.

The day seemed as it was going to be just the typical day, chores, bills and whatnot. Nevermore snapped his attention towards the front corridor, scaring Alari somewhat. She looked at him in confusion, "Nevermore what's-" she was cut off mid sentence as a knock sounded on the thick doors.

Nevermore walked towards the doors, slowly down the steps and across the marble flooring. His shoes tapping as he walked, his eyes went red as he reached for the handles. He opened the doors ready to attack but his face went to an expression of shock as to who he saw on the doorstep.

Alari walked over to him and gained a huge grin on her face, she cried out in joy, "Aiko!" She hugged Aiko, who was just a bit taller than her, short blonde hair and blue eyes. Aiko smiled and hugged back, "Hows my sister doing?"

Nevermore was confused as his yellow eyes were clouded with puzzlement, "Miss Blood, who is she?"

"Oh this is my sister Aiko. Aiko, this is my butler Nevermore Michaelis."

Aiko nodded in greeting, her voice slightly more mature than Alari, "Hello Sir Michaelis."

He chuckled, "I am no sir. Just one hell of a butler." He smiled a bit more as he caught himself quoting his own father. Alari giggled and brought her sister inside, "Come in! It's been a while!"

The two sisters walked around the estate as Nevermore finished cleaning the halls and corridors. As they caught up on current events, Aiko stopped her after seeing the tall demon walk across an open way. "Hey, Alari?"

"Yeah what's up? Is he making you uncomfortable? I can tell him to tend to the courtyard if.." Alari responded and took a step towards the direction her demon had gone.

"No no that's not it. I just...he doesn't seem..well you see he just," She paused for a moment, "He isn't human, is he?"

Alari had gone pale. She remembered Aiko had a sixth sense that she inherited from their mother. She grabbed her wrist and pulled her into a guest room. The demon however, heard the door slam shut and became curious, "What in the Hell is going on between them two?"

He began to make his way towards the sound of the door shutting, his steps calm and paced. He didn't sense danger from this Aiko woman. But he didn't let his guard go down, he always had to be ready.

Alari sighed and looked at her older sister, "Aiko...i may or may not have made a deal with him. I have a contract with Nevermore. He is in fact a demon."

Aiko just stared, bewildered and confused. "Why Alari?"

"I want to know who killed our parents."

"Alari, that was years ago! We've been over this, no one ever found their bodies. They found the car in the lake but not them. They became food for the coyotes." Aiko grabbed her shoulders gently, her eyes worried for the little sister before her.

"Stop denying the fact that someone did this to them. They made it look like an accident then hid their bodies. We both know this!" Alari shouted at her, tears starting to form.

Nevermore was just a few steps away from the door when he heard his master shout. He reached for the door handle but stopped and listened. Aiko hugged Alari and sighed gently, "Alari, if this will bring you closure, there's nothing else i can say to you. You've always been stubborn and I said I would support you in anything. But please, call off the contract."

With those last words, the demon opened the door and the room went black, his eyes glowing in the darkness.
