Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Strong Resolve

*Dagur*

*After the events of last night I think we all understood that we had to take our job as bodyguards a little more seriously, especially when we saw Varken come back with Sheehan in this state. I don't know how many there were but beating him in such a state sent shivers down our spines. It was worse when Varken explained to us later that there was only one guy. My mother always told me never to underestimate humans but this was beyond what I could imagine*.

-My poor guy what put you in such a state?

*After which we returned to the party incognito. Emory had trouble sleeping and even when he did his sleep was restless. Kaleb wanted to stay up but ended up falling asleep with him. Varken and Sheehan stayed in a secret room in the house until dawn and I, well, I couldn't sleep so I stood guard with Bauer. The next day we thanked our host Philotas before returning quietly to the palace. Enrik sat in the middle of Emory's room with the girls reading glyphs. I don't think he missed us at all, though*.

-Enrik, can you explain all this mess in the bedroom to me? Looks like a tornado has passed?

-Master.

*Adali jumped on me happy to see me again but Diana barely looked at me then turned away. Enrik stood up, he was shirtless*.

-Where is your beautiful fur tunic.

- Unwanted people came last night, I had to clean up. I asked the maids to clean the room but they got scared when they saw the corpses, I'm waiting for them to calm down to call them back.

- How many assailants? *I asked*.

-13, no 14 I let one get away.

- Sowing seeds is illegal Enrik. *recalled Kaleb*.

-Don't worry, I'm not on that side, but what happened to Sheehan? And who is this guy? An expert warrior ?

- My name is Bauer *He answered simply*. What are you planning to do for your friend? He hasn't opened his eyes since yesterday.

- We'll finish it cleanly at worst. *I said*.

- What are you not serious? *yelled Varken*.

- Calm down, I'm kidding.

-I'm sorry...*Fit Emory*. It's all my fault.

*Enrik picked Varken up and put him in the prince's bed*.

-I knew I should have come with you. *he says*. And don't worry majesty we live and die by your orders.

- What are you going to do?

-In his condition and given the low rate of regeneration of Jenobach will have to wait a week before he regains consciousness. *He explained*.

-One week ?

*He grew and refined his claws and then dug them into Han's chest. His body was then covered with Efrat*.

-Hey what are you doing you're going to kill him. *I Said surprised*. You can't infuse Efrat into a Jenobach body or I'll have woken him up yesterday.

-We can't infuse them with Efrat as with us in the classic way, but we can accelerate the diffusion of Efrat in his body.

-Accelerate? *Asks Kaleb*.

-The Killick regeneration is done in a natural way the Efrat accelerates this process, but by manipulating a little well *He moved his finger near the heart*. One can apply pressure to the core of Efrat and make it circulate much faster.

*He jerked his hand away and the Efrat of Sheehan appeared. Bright red as always as Enrik wiped his hand with a cloth*.

-It's the Killick equivalent of cardiac massage. *he says*.

*Suddenly Sheehan grabbed Enrik by the wrist and we got on our guard*.

- Calm down is a natural reaction.

*Sheehan opened his eyes*.

-The monk... Where is he?

-The monk ? *enrik wondered*.

-He left with the others. I'm sorry I just managed to get you back. *Varken replied with a worried look*.

-Ah... So he's still alive.

*He smirked and collapsed again. His wounds slowly closed as his Efrat gushed out of his body*.

-I didn't know you knew how to do that. *I tell Enrikson*.

-That's what scholars are for. Medicine on Adje is weak compared to humans, some have to practice it.

-Couldn't you heal us?

- In your case it is different. *Said Bauer leaning against a wall*. You have totally overloaded yourself by abusing your Efrat. If I have to summarize the situation you will have to regenerate naturally until you can use Efrat again.

-Is this a joke? *Screamed I and Kaleb*.

*He threw a ring at each of us and motioned for us to put it on, which we did*.

-What's this ?

-With that your Efrat is blocked.

-Eh ? You're kidding me. *Yells Kaleb*.

*Prince Killick rushed at him but I stopped him*.

- I'm doing this for your safety. Abuse the Efrat and you will end up incinerated by your own energy.

- Rings of Sygmar are used to lock up prisoners even if they have chains. *I explained*. And don't try to tear your finger off, it won't grow back.

* Kaleb let out an annoyed sigh and went to sit in a corner. Emory smirked at his reaction*.

-BUT WHAT THE HELL....

*Ah, I completely forgot that one. Donnar Alvaces, somewhere is also our employer, I think seeing all these corpses in the room and a half-dead Sheehan in the bed expelling a bright red aura made him crack. He made us kneel in a corner like kids and gave us a sermon. We explained the story to him in part and we avoided the passage where I freaked out otherwise he would send us back immediately*.

-It's good, I got it overall. But I think we're going to have to change a couple of things.

-Why are we on our knees and not Enrikson? *Asked Varken*.

-Shut up, you're responsible for all this mess. And who are you?

- Bauer. The king asked me to come and train these young shoots. From now on I am their mentor.

-The king ? which king?

-My king. *He replied*.

- You're not a big talker, are you. What does it matter if you have a place to sleep? There's no way another Killick is sleeping in the palace.

-Don't worry, I know someone.

-Hm... You look very young for an expert, how old are you?

- How old do you think I am?

*He looked at her for a moment, humans have trouble estimating the age of the Killicks and shouldn't rely too much on our appearance*.

-I think I would say 90 years old.

*We almost burst out laughing but we smothered it immediately*.

- Shut up kids. Well I would say 30.

- So I'm 30 years old.

-What... He's kidding me there...

*After that almost a week passed without a single incident. Sheehan had woken up much earlier than expected but he hadn't said a single word about his fight on the contrary he was extremely pensive, this monk must have marked him. And whether we wanted to show it or not, Sheehan's loss affected us all. One day I approached him while he was sitting near the balcony... Reading?

-Hey what's wrong SheeHan? You are sick, right? *I say touching his forehead*.

-Shut up, I don't even know how to read this thing? *He said pushing me away*. It's Varken who brought it to me it seems it's the monk who left it for me?

- He left it for you?

- Yes but I have no idea how to read this thing.

-This is what happens when you can't read. *I say mockingly*.

-I can read, motherfucker. It is his language that is incomprehensible.

-Let me see.

*I took the scroll and decrypted some lines*.

-The song of the wind... Purifies... The crying mountain... What... What is this gibberish?

-I don't know, I asked Enrikson to decrypt it for me. We will see what it gives.

-Nevertheless, we're all covered in bandages, it's funny.

-The so called elite warriors. *Said Sheehan with an Ironic sigh*.

-What is it, I feel you weird dude.

-He was strong... The monk... he was ridiculously strong for a human it didn't make sense. I'm sure it's not a Killick he got hurt saving us and according to Varken he didn't recover. And that's what's scary.

- Do you find it scary? Stop it's only a human, you say it yourself they are weak.

-He beat me with his bare hands Dagur.

*I think that was the most shocking announcement of the day. He had beaten Sheehan in clinch? It's impossible but to see him so calm and so serious it seemed unreal to me. Besides, I don't understand why he doesn't explode in anger. Sheehan climbed off the ledge and walked down a hallway, but I grabbed him by the shoulder and stopped him.*

- What's happening to you, don't tell me you're afraid of this guy?

*He turns to me and smirks*.

-You joke ? The next time I see him, I'll kill him. I'm going back to training.

-That's the Sheehan I know.

-I hope he won't be killed by then.

*It is not said but does not prevent the nature of this human intrigues me. My mother surely knows things, I've never heard of a human as physically strong as a Killick. Especially a Jenobach. After this long week I felt my body recover, my Efrat was circulating again and Bauer took the rings off us. That day Emory found me in my room putting away my things.

-Ah Emory precisely I...

-Dagur... Can I talk to you? Wait, why you pack your stuff there.

- Yes, I intend to leave with Fryr by this evening I return to Adje.

- Hey... But no.

-After the incident last time I almost killed you, I refuse to put you in danger. Don't worry the others are strong there they will protect you.

Dagur I still need you.

- My decision is made I...

- I don't want you to leave stupid. *he yelled*.

*The vibrating piece is crazy. He approached me with a determined look and grabbed me by the wrist*.

-I won't let you slip away even if i have to use the seal on you.

*Shit, let's not get to that*.

-I have thought about what you told me, that in the future people will do things in my name whether I like it or not and you may say what happened in this cave is my fault and I assume it. So it's time for me to grow up and move forward, only I can't stay in my bubble forever and just be cuddled. If I continue to remain so naive it risks falling on me.

- Would it be maturity that I perceive your majesty.

*He came a little closer and faced me*.

-Dagur becomes my right arm. No becomes my mentor.

-That I...

-I know that you won't treat me differently and that you won't be afraid to tell me the truth like this time in the cave.

*I intended to leave the group for a while to arouse his guilt and push him to take me back, which would force him to become attached to me, but it seems that the good prince is taking the lead*.

-Are you asking me to teach you to be...

*He nodded*.

-I see. Looks like I can refuse. *Says I put my suitcase down*. Already start by being more authoritative towards those around you and that includes me and the others. Don't hesitate to take us high and above all put us down, you are the prince. If it's too hard then pretend in public but do it right. When we're between us you can relax.

-I... I'll try.

*I smile at him and straighten his collar as the door opens to let Donnar in with a stack of documents*.

-Here is your first test. What order are you going to give him, majesty?

-Donnar... No Alvaces. *He said with a more determined look*. Find the people who ordered my kidnapping. As soon as possible.

*Donnar at first surprised at the tone of his voice smiled before bowing*.

-It will be done with pleasure your majesty.

*3 days later Emory and I were walking down the halls toward a very special place in the palace, the council chamber. As we arrived in front of the door, the guards intervened*.

- Sorry majesty the king as well as your brothers are in meeting with several advisers and generals.

-I know that's why I want to come in.

*The guard at first surprised stared at the prince again and held out his hand*.

-Sorry majesty you can't....

*I grabbed his wrist and twisted it and he immediately found himself on his knees*.

-How dare you try to touch the prince?

-You filthy...

*His friend tried to fight back but I pressured him with my murderous aura and he backed off. Emory then gave them a smiling but menacing look.

- Let me through, or you'll never see the sun rise again.

*We entered the meeting room with great fanfare, there were quite a few white collar workers and only a few generals. I looked around and saw Emvis, he was uncontracted and wearing just a sleeveless shirt, his legs were propped up on the table. On the other side just in front was Elfinn who always wore expensive clothes, his long hair reaching his shoulder. He had a serious look and gave off something sinister as Kaleb had explained. Then there was the king, impossible to miss in his light blue tunic reminding me of the efrat, despite his appearance as an old man he imposed more than everyone in this dirty. But we didn't have to be afraid of him, it wasn't our target for the day*.

-Isnnt it Emory? *say Emvis half surprised*. and I see that you are well accompanied.

- Good morning my brother, what a nice day, isn't it? I come to attend today's meeting.

*Everyone in the room began to whisper except the king who remained impassive*.

- These are not things that a child could understand. *explained Elfinn*.

*Emory didn't listen and walked over to his brother Emvis then turned to the person sitting next to him asking politely*.

- Stand up please I will take place here.

*The man chuckled slightly*.

- But majesty, I'm sorry but... This is my place.

-I know you just have to find another one elsewhere.

*Elfinn punched his fist in quiet anger*.

- Emory this is not a game.

*The young prince didn't give him the look and raised his finger to signal him to be quiet, which shocked the others even more, even me.*

-Get up from this seat. Malonus.

-Sorry, I can't receive...

*Before he finishes his sentence I grab him by the throat and take him off the chair before pushing him to the floor. He wasn't very tall so it was very simple. Seeing this the guards wanted to intervene but Emvis stopped them with a look*.

- You insolent kid. *Shouted a general*. The Killicks have no rights here. This is what happens when you surround yourself with savages.

-It was very funny and everything *said Emvis* but it would be time for you to explain yourself Emory, what is all this circus?

*The young prince took his place at the table, crossing his fingers while I held the other to the ground by pressing on his throat with my leg*.

- About 3 days ago 14 people broke into my room with the intention of murdering me.

*The announcement surprised more than one in the room but Emory remained undaunted*.

-Unfortunately for them I was on the move and one of my guards who stayed there eliminated them all.

- Well only one royal guard for 14 people we feel all the expertise of our army. *Said a general*.

-He was a Killick guard. *Emory announced calmly*. And he's a kid like me.

*Everyone else except Emvis and the king were stunned*.

-After which I asked to investigate to find the person who had sponsored this failed attempt. So we had one of the assailants followed.

-I thought they were all killed.

- Did I say that? *he said sarcastically*. Normally assassination contracts are burned immediately after receiving them but these seem to keep theirs as proof in case things go wrong.

*Enrik forwarded the one he didn't kill, that's how we found them*.

- After torturing... After a thorough interrogation our friend ended up telling us more.

-How do you know he's not lying?

-Believe me. *I wiggle my fingers*. I know how to make spit the truth.

*It goes deeper than that, we found evidence of them being part of the cult that kidnapped Emory but let's keep that part to ourselves*.

-I will not present my evidence, some of it incriminates people here present but the direct sponsor seems to be Councilor Malonus so I will not go by 4 paths.

*I picked him up and slammed him against the wall. Emory then turned to us*.

- What do you have to say for your defense?

-He's lying, this boy is out of his mind, these Killicks kids must have brainwashed him, that's obvious. What will I gain by killing the prince, huh?

*everyone stares at him blankly*.

-That's enough Emory, I forbid you to take it out on Malonus, he is an important adviser and a good diplomat who facilitates our relations with neighboring countries. *says Elfinn*.

- All you have to do is replace him. But I see, you don't have a shred of regret for trying to kill a 10-year-old boy like me. Too bad then. Dagur...

-With pleasure.

*I raise my claw ready to pierce his heart*.

-Finally wait.

*Emory stood up and removed his brother's sword from its scabbard and walked towards him. He observed the counselor gesticulating, trembling with fear*.

-A last wish for your children.

-He won't dare if. *whispered another adviser*.

*The quivering counselor ends up taking the trust and if*.

-You wouldn't dare, if you do you will become a murderer and you will have my death on your conscience. Think of my family and...

*The sound of a blade split the air. The movement was clean and precise. This guy's head rolled on the ground and blood spurted out covering Emory's face. The boy came back to his place and put his brother's bloody sword on the table*.

- Emory what have you done? *Yelled Elfinn visibly angry*.

*But the young prince kept his calm*.

-Make no mistake, this is not a demonstration. I don't care why you want to kill me but if one of you were to do it again.

*He gave them all a sharp look*.

-I would liberate your families from their lives. *He says icy*.

*He threw a chill in the room and even the king showed a discreet smile*.

-You... You dare threaten us...

-This is a warning and a threat. If someone attacks me, I retaliate, and my response will be disproportionate. And it doesn't matter what position you hold in the state. *he says*.

*He cast a cold look at everyone in the assembly and even stared at the king*.

- On those, let's continue this meeting will you.

-What... *began a general*.

-Dagur is my right arm he has more than the right to be present here. And you won't change that.

* I come to take place just behind the prince and displayed a stoic mine even if it is necessary of me I laughed slyly. Emvis gave us a discreet wink before smiling. After the meeting when we turned around in his room he released the pressure and his heart began to beat rapidly*.

- How was I?

*For a start I think he was doing pretty well. I helped him up and smiled at him.*

- You were perfect.

I leaned in his direction and kissed him on the lips. It barely lasted 2 seconds and he pulled away immediately and blushed.

-What... what?

-Now I know why Kaleb cares about you haha.

-What... What... Dagur you...

*I hopped out of the room leaving him confused. Finally, it will be pleasant to live in this palace.*
