Chapter 39: Chapter 37 - History

"Ugh!" Atalanta grunted as she spread her hands to the side, shooting the men outside of the miniature sandstorm. "David, how much pressure can the enchanted coins stand?" Atalanta asked while sustaining the gravitational forces to keep the men away. "Not enough. And the flying man can just chase us anyways. We need another way to-" David couldn't finish his sentence as a sharp stone spike almost took his head off.

"Guys, the sandstorm's shrinking!" Apate shouted. David took a clear look, and it was true. The sandstorm, now filled with dangerous debris, started closing in on them rapidly. "Shit! Atalanta, how much more can you hold them back?!" David shouted over the deafening sound of the storm. "Not much longer! I'll need to focus on pushing back the debris soon!" Atalanta shouted back. 'Shit, what can I do...' David pondered. "Wait a second, what if..." David muttered as he pulled out one of the unenchanted coines he had.

"Atalanta, keep this damn debris away please!" Apate pleaded as a stone spike narrowly missed his head. "But-" Atalanta wanted to protest but David interrupted her. "Do it, I'll take care of those enemies." He said. "...Fine," she said as the rubble surrounding them was suddenly pushed back. Noticing the chance, the attacking group once again charged through the sandstorm, which suddenly opened up again. This time, however, David was ready. While waiting for them, David enchanted the coin and the latter started showing cracking from the stress of the enchantment. Now, when they were passing through the sandstorm, David threw the coin to his side. The coin was immediately swept in the harsh air current, and it flew in a circular motion towards the entering group.

In a split second, the coin was in front of them, and David made his move. David snapped his fingers, and a giant explosion unleashed in the group's face as the coin burst apart. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" Atalanta yelled as she jumped in surprise with Apate. "Calm down, I don't think I got them," David said as he looked forward. Just as he predicted, the explosion started to move unnaturally. After a second or so, it started getting smaller and smaller. In the end, it was all sucked into the bruised and burned arm of one of the formerly hooded figures. "God damn it, he got us good," the man said as he and his two associates were now covered in burns and wounds.

"Shit, do we have to capture him too now?" One of the burned men sighed as he raised his hand up high, and a green circle sprouted beneath his feet which started to rapidly heal him and his allies. "Absorption, lightning, tornadoes, and now AOE healing too? What kind of bullshit is this?!" Atalanta yelled out in frustration. This is a dream squad that's on par with Warlord elite forces, and David had a feeling those guys are still holding back a lot, seeing that they wanted to capture them. "Listen, just surrender quietly. You can't beat us, and it will be a shame to kill you," another one of the formerly burnt men said as he made a hand signal and the tornado died down. David was storming ideas inside his head to find a solution. Apate, unlike David, stared at the now clear figure of the leader with a panicked and angy expression. The two locked eyes for a second, before the leader's eyes changing between various looks before ending widened in shock.

"Stand down!" He yelled as his eyes started to glow golden. "What are 𝐲𝐨𝐮 doing here?" He asked with his body tensed up, seemingly ready to jump into combat. "I can ask you the same thing. Since when did you stoop so low as to work in the Land of Lightning? Though I suppose that with your master this is an ideal place. Garbage does belong with garbage, after all." Apate spat back. "I was hesitant on whether to kill you all or not, but I suppose I can't now that you're here." The leader said, ignoring Apate's words. "Also, if you're here, that means that this girl is the daughter of the Warlord of Gravity. It's sad, but I'll let you go this time. I don't want to accidentally kill you and lose your wonderful... Assets. However, be warned, I 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 capture you the next time we meet." The hooded leader said. The leader signaled with his hand before he and the rest of his men teleported out of the area.

"I think we're due an explanation," David said as he looked warily at Apate. He suspected Apate's story was a lie from the start, however, this was a little weird. He claimed to be from the Land of Gravity, but Atalanta didn't seem to know these men, who are at the level of being at the top of the top. Also, the way they addressed her was off. "Daughter of the Warlord of Gravity" isn't something a subordinate calls his superior. David didn't know what Apate's past was, but if these men are now gunning for them because of him, he needs answers.

Apate looked at David, and the latter felt a little off. The look Apate gave him was cold. Sure, he was a jerk, even more so at the beginning, but it never felt bad. He never felt as if he was in danger like he did now. He felt dizzy, and suddenly everything went black.

"Haaa" David yawned as he woke up. He felt good, weirdly so. "What's the time?" He asked no one in particular as he sat up. "I'd say it's about noon," Apate, who was cooking some pray he caught, informed him. "Thanks. Man, I didn't sleep this good in a long while. Where's Atalanta and the Alona?" David asked. "She's there," Apate pointed at Atalanta who was sleeping under a tree with Alona using her stomach as a pillow. "What are you cooking?" David asked as he walked near the fire Apate made. "A couple of birds, they'll be ready in five minutes or so," Apate replied. "Sounds good. I think I'll take out the Harmonica, nothing better than some good music after a meal." David spoke as he casually walked to wake up Atalanta and Alona.
