Chapter 5: Chapter 4: Murder #2

"Officer Johnson please send Athena back home for me," Artemis requested.

"Of course, Detective Athens," Johnson said before walking after with Athena trailing behind him.

"Lieutenant and Sergeant Hartz! I expect the two fo you to be on night duty tonight. Detectives Athena and Arias, you two have to stay overnight to work on the case too. Good night and work hard officers," Chief McConnors announced while passing the four of them in the lobby.

"Sir, yes, sir!" the four of them exclaimed with a salute.

"Our office?" Daniella suggested as she and her brother shared the same office room.

"Of course, we wouldn't wanna be anywhere else," Artemis replied.

"I'll make coffee," Andrew volunteered before entering the mini kitchen.

"And I'll order dinner," Daniel suggested.

"No, you gotta save up money if you wanna propose to your girlfriend... I'll have Officer Davys run to the store to grab a

us two boxes of cup noodles," Artemis said.

"Artie, I can handle the proposal, plus Corinne only asked me for a simple wedding, just so you know," Daniel replied with a chuckle.

"But I still wanna do this for you Danny, you've been my best friend ever since you were assigned to my team," Artemis said.

"Fine then, you do you, missy," he sighed defeated by his best friend.

"Oi, Officer Davys?!" Artemis called out as she walked away from her friends and to the reporting counter.

"Y-yes, Detective Athens?" the 21 year old new recruit stuttered as soon as he heard his name being called by the older woman who was quite well known in the department as the brave, raging mad, rebellious and greatest homicide detective of their time.

"Could you please be a darling and fetch my team and I three boxes of cup noodles? Here's the money, you can keep the change," Artemis said, which only felt more like a demand to the younger recruit as she was in a dark higher position and tank than him in both career and age.

"Of course, Detective Athens. I'll be became shortly," Davys replied.

"Thank you, Officer Davys. When you're back with the cup noodles please drop it off in Lieutenant and Sergeant Hartz's office. You're such a darling," she said walking off as the young officer rushed out of the police department to the nearest department store in one of the other recruit's patrol car.

Artemis, Daniella, Daniel and Andrew were sipping coffee and looking over the information that they had gotten. A few minutes later, Davys had dropped off their three boxes of cup noodles.

The quartret has graciously thanked the young recruit before promptly returning to their investigation.

Just then, a frantic call that reached the department sent the reporting hall and lobby into a frenzy.

"HELLO?! OFFICERS PLEASE HELP!!! THERE'S BEEN A MURDER AT THE PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL NEAR OCEAN VILLE HIGH!!! PLEASE CONE QUICK!!!" the woman on the other line screamed in fear.

The whole department got to hear the frantic call from the frightened woman as the recruit who the call was forwarded to had placed his call receiver on speaker.

The team of homicide investigators immediately shot up from their seats and rounded up the recruits.

Artemis was the one who hit up Corinne and her forensics team.

"Hello? Corrine, murder at the public swimming pool near Ocean Ville High! Come quick!" Artemis informed.

"I'll inform the ambulance as well," Corinne replied before she ended the call.

Two patrol police cars, a gradient dark blue to black Aventador SV, a dark green Porsche 911 GT2, a neon green Lotus Evora and a dark purple Mercedes AMG 63 all left the Ocean Ville Police Department in a rush towards the Ocean Ville Public Swimming Pool.

The townspeople of Ocean Ville Town were startled awake by the sirens of the police cars and the ambulance combined.

They stood by their windows, some been exited their homes to see for themselves the police cars and ambulance along with the sports cars in town rushing towards wherever their destination was.

Now, the townspeople were sure that the murder of Alyssa Monroe wasn't just a. mere murder and that there surely was more to it, as the higher ups were yet again rushing somewhere. They dreaded the news that they had to wake up to the next morning.

The officers arrived at the scene of the crime. The woman who called was actually a young teenager the age of 16. She was curled up in a ball and was sitting outside at the front gates of the public swimming pool.

"Lieutenant and Sergeant Hartz, investigate the witness. Detective Arias and I will go inside and check out the scene of the crime," Artemis said ordered before entering the swimming arena.

The two detectives and the forensics who were following closely behind greeted with the ghastly sight of a corpse that was basically torn away at with a knife. The face was unrecognizable . There was blood all over the edge of the swimming pool and the blood drip into the chlorinated water.

The scene looked more like the scene you'd usually see of the result of animal mauling or a massacre.

The whole homicide team had yet to witness such a terrible case in their small town that they loved oh so dearly.

This was their first time they had seen such a. terrible murder and they hope also wished that it would be their last.

"Ms. Sterling, start your investigation with your team," Artemis said, grimly.

"I need to go and speak with that kid," Artemis informed Andrew before she speed walked towards the entry of the swimming arena.

Daniella and Daniel were investigating the witness. Just then, the bronze BMW i8 that belonged to Chief McConnors swerved and parked by the entrance.

"Chief!" Artemis exclaimed in greeting immediately saluting.

The other officers heard the loud and swuft greeting from the detective immediately turned to face their chief and greeted him with salutes.

The chief have a calmer and normal salute before heading towards the crime scene, not even sparing the young detective a glance.

It was no wonder to anyone that the chief hated the young detective to the bone. They merely only questioned the reason why because for all they knew, the young detective had done nothing to make the chief angry in any way whatsoever.

Artemis walked towards the young witness. Daniella and Daniel backed away and headed to see the crime scene as soon as they saw that Artemis wanted to do a side interrogation for herself.

"State your name, age and what you were doing here," Artemis started, her voice was grim because she felt like she recognized the young girl who was sitting in the back of the ambulance.

She had a few cut marks and scratches, most probably from trying to escape from the murderer.

"Your Athena's sister," was all the girl replied with, her voice was shaking. She was scared stiff by all the unfamiliar faces that surrounded her. She knew that they were the authorities and that she had nothing to fear when they were there but she still wanted a familiar face with her. She was terrified after what she had witnessed.

"Are you one of Athena's friends?" Artemis asked instead.

"Allison Gray, 16 years old. I'm in the same class as Athena and yes, miss, I'm her friend. I was also one of Alyssa's friends," the girl, Allison, replied.

Artemis gave the dirty blonde haired, tan skin, blue eyed girl a one over, trying to find at least a somewhat mention of the girl's name from Athena or maybe even an image of the girl with Athena.

She did find one in her head. Allison had came over to their house once to work on a project with Athena.

"Ah... Now I remember you. You can rover once to work on a history project with Athena, around lasted week or something," Artemis said with recognition.

The young girl nodded in confirmation.

"What were you doing here this late at night and who was that girl?" Artemis started prying.

"My family owns the swimming arena. I work here part time for some money. I clean the pool and the bathrooms and such. My friend who is also one of Athena's, Abigail Johnson. She wanted some extra money so she asked me whether or not she could work here. I asked my parents, they agreed. She's been working her for quite a while now, roughly 4 months," Allison explained.

"Did Abigail have any crazy boyfriends like Alyssa?" Artemis shot the question to Allison with no remorse whatsoever.

"No, Abigail is from a family that rarely even manages to get three meals in a day. She wanted to money for her family. Her brother, Edward Johnson, just recently became a police officer for the Ocean Ville Police Force," Allison said.

Artemis felt like a bullet had been shot through her chest at those words. At first, she didn't pay any mind to the surname 'Johsnson' as there were many people in town that has the same surname. She didn't expect Abigail to be related with the new recruit, Edward Johnson, that had been recruited into the force for 5 months now.

"You mean Officer Edward Johnson? The officer that is stationed in the lobby of the police department?" Artemis asked for confirmation, she didn't want to get the wrong Officer Edward Johnson.

"Yes, that's him," Allison confirmed only making Artemis feel like there had been a thousand knives stabbing into her chest now.

She pulled in a shaky breath to stabilize herself.

"Did you see the murderer?" Artemis asked, voice grim and the tone was one of sadness.

"I only saw his back. He was wearing all black. Broad shoulders, very very tall, maybe around over 180cm... That's all I saw. He had a knife. I was cleaning the woman's bathroom when I heard Abigail scream. I followed the sound only to see her getting stabbed.

My voice was gone the moment t I saw the man stabbing her and her eyes were being into mine, silently egging me to run away. I couldn't really see the other features of the murderer as the lights were turned off at the pool.

Abigail was murdered before she could turn on the lights. I think the murderer was the one who turned on the lights because I ran out through the locker rooms, through the backdoor into the back alley that leads to the person size back gate of the high school.

That was when I called while running taking another alley at the back of the school that led me to the front road at the drunkard street. I decided to stay there for a while until I heard the sirens and I ran back here," Allison explained.

"By 'drunkard street' you mean 'Fiona Miles Street' right?" Artemis asked for confirmation yet again.

Fiona Miles Street was where all the local pubs, bars, gambling stores and all of the such were located at. Thr street was named 'Fiona Miles Street' because Fiona Miles, the great granddaughter do the founder of the town was the owner of the first ever pubs and bar then. She soon then owned the first ever club there as well.

Then, more and more people starting opening up more stores and shops that were dedicated to alcohol, dancing and unwinding there. That lead to naming the street 'Fiona Miles Street'. It eventually had gotten the nickname 'Drunkard street' because of the amount of drunkards there.

Artemis sighed. "I assume you got you cuts and scratches from that little escape route. you took? The back alleys have always been the only worst thing in town," Artemis said.

Allison nodded. "I'll let you rest, you can borrow anyone's phone to call your parents and inform them if you want but either way, Lieutenant Hartz will inform your parents," Artemis said before walking away from the girl to go and think over all the facts and possibilities in her car.
