Chapter 593: Dusty March

I waited for nightfall, and used the thin time between dusk and moonrise to sneak into the stream. Honestly, I'd been expecting to be spotted. The last I saw of the plains cats, they were sauntering around their watering hole.

So, on the one hand, there wasn't enough depth for me to remain completely safe. On the other, it was deep enough that I didn't have to make ripples.

See, this is where math might have helped. Or physics, or optics. My point is that I knew there was an angle at which people looking at my position would see only the reflection of the moon upon the water. I had no clue what that angle was, or even how to figure that angle out, which made in infuriating.

There was also the fact that the muddiest water was lower, but not having the nutrients or time to invest in the sort of evolutions that kept the native residents breathing...
