Chapter 2: Unsure

I left the cafeteria unable to think straight after what happened. Faren stayed to finish her lunch and I decided to walk back on my own. I was completely perplexed that I hadn't seen Jason before since everyone else knew him so well.

I shake my head and continue down the beaten path toward my dorm. I held onto my phone in my right hand as I walked and decided to check it to see if I had any notifications. Two messages from Gmail and nothing else. I stick my phone back into my pocket and decide to deal with them later.

Opening the door to the dorm and still smelling the incense in the room, I let out a heavy sigh and flop onto my bed. I hear the door unlock and I sit up to see Faren had returned.

"Hey, I've been meaning to ask," I start as she enters the room.

"What is it?" She replied as she closed the door behind her.

"Do you like Jason?" I suggested since her reaction to when he entered the room changed her whole demeanor.

She hesitated for a second before going to her incense machine and turned it back on. "Well there's no way I wouldn't like him but I would die if I admitted I did." She replied slightly worried about her answer and if I cared that she had feelings for him.

"Oh I don't care but I knew other girls would. I was just asking cause your personality changed when he came into the room." I returned before laying back on the bed and looked up at the ceiling.

"Question is do you like him as well?" She asked turning to look at me.

My eyes go wide-eyed and I turn to look away from her. "I just thought he was nice looking I don't have any feelings for him. Plus he's out of my league, I have plenty of school work to keep me busy and have no time for relationships." I reasoned but I could tell Faron didn't take my excuse very well.

"I feel like you're lying to me. Tell me the truth." She insisted and I shook my head, avoiding her gaze. She walked up to my bed and glared at me before going to the fridge to grab a soda.

"Fine don't tell me. Who knows maybe he'll have feelings for either of us. The probability is low but there is a chance." She replied and opened the can to take a sip.

I laid on the bed contemplating the possibilities but then realized the situation I would be putting myself in. If I showed any form of affection toward him then all the girls that crave him would turn their hatred toward me and the bullying would increase. It's not something I would want in my life.

We chill in the dorm room till our next class begins which was about an hour and a half later. I grab my bag, say goodbye to Faren before heading toward my class. This time 10 minutes early so I don't have another heart attack from panic.

I reach the lecture hall and take a seat toward the back of the auditorium. I pull out a notepad and some pencils while I wait for the professor to arrive. I also take out one of the books I had been reading the past couple of days and start reading it to pass the extra time that I had.

More students fill in the seats and the two next to me remain empty, as it always is. After most of the seats are filled the professor walks in right on the dot when class was supposed to start. She always managed to do it and it amazed me every time.

"Glad to see everyone again. Please open your notebooks to page 567. We will be discussing.." she started as she taught the class the lesson she had planned for today. I switch between reading the textbook and my book throughout the lesson since I already read the entire textbook in my own time. I went back to it for a refresher before continuing my book.

I took my work seriously and time was very important to me so sitting still and doing nothing wasn't my forte. As I read, I had a sneaky suspicion I was being watched so I looked up to see if the teacher was looking in my direction. She wasn't so I must have been paranoid. I shrug my shoulders and continue reading.

Over my shoulder, someone was looking down at me. Those eyes bore into the back of my skull and trailed to the pages I was reading. A snicker came from the owner of those eyes and I lifted my head to turn around and look back at them. I didn't realize it was going to be a student watching me until our sights locked with each other. It was Jason Richards.

"What are you reading?" He asked with a hushed voice so only the people near could hear, especially me.

I look down at the book that gave my precarious realization away. I hesitate before swiveling my head back around to answer him. "Just a light read while I work and listen," I reply with a white lie. I was paying attention just not much to the lecture. I would much rather read my book than listen to the lecture that I already knew, to begin with.

A glint in his eye told me that he knew I was lying to him and I instantly shrunk into my seat. "Why do I feel like that isn't entirely true? Be honest." He proceeded and I looked up at him feeling self-conscious about my recent answer.

"I would prefer to read my book than listen to the lecture," I admitted and the glint in his eye turned from suspicion to a satisfied look of approval. I never knew just the slight change of his facial expression would put so much meaning into his reaction and thoughts. It put me on edge seeing the effect he had on people and myself.

No wonder the ladies love him. They go weak in the legs when he speaks and faint the moment he lays eyes on them. I felt like doing both at the same time if I weren't already seated.
