Everything had happened in a blur. So many emotionally involving episodes unfolding in front of my eyes, like a telenovela movie preview, except without a husky-voiced narrator. Max had nearly broken his hand, giving it to the god I'd just had the best moment of my life with. The guy Alvah had come in to save. The guy whose name I had learned was Draven.

" It was nice making out. " He'd made a point to tell me, above everything else that had transpired, making my heart do cartwheels across my chest.

I'd ordered iced tea just for Max to hold his hand against. For a punch conveyed with that much vigor, the guy's face seemed pretty okay, maybe even better than before with sweat from holding Max, who for a moment had turned into a weapon , away from him.
