Alex's ears trembled at the sound of distant shooting. "It's beginning," she whispered. Her ears had healed since the explosion, but still felt they weren't a hundred percent yet.

Ellie flicked at her board with determined fingers and a piercing stare. Alex had never seen anyone flick so fast before. The words and symbols raced across the screen at an impossible pace. They only had to make it to daylight. Once it was hot enough, they would pack everyone on the train and head west. Alex only hoped there weren't more Alphas to greet them.
