Bilal carried Young One's small backpack. It contained her specials 'finds'. In the three months that she had lived with his family they had gone scavenging on two occasions and each time she had found many things that she wanted to explore. Most wouldn't make sense to a human but Bilal understood her desire to understand dust bunnies, a tin of old grease, a roach.

She finally became comfortable with showing Carmella that she did not need to use her mouth in order to eat.

Carmella had discovered her exploring a bucket of pig slop with her tentacles. Young One was pleased when Bilal finally explained that she didn't need to eat with her mouth because she absorbed what she needed from the world around her.
