Chapter 40: The arrival

Amos sat down on a sixth throne that Onicent had created for him. It was made of a black stone that glowed dully. As he sunk into it he felt even more powerful, his eyes glowed.

The council was in silence now, but it was broken by a set of even footsteps. Onicent sat bolt upright, eyes fixed upon the door. Into the room came the most beautiful woman anyone had ever seen. She had impossibly large eyes with long lashes, even inside they sparkled. Her body was the palest and most delicate of pinks. She had long hair that fell perfectly down her back braided with flowers. Perhaps her most interesting feature was the belt that looped around her waist, a large gem sat in the centre.

Every god in the room was leaning toward her, like a flower to the sun. She seemed slightly embarrassed and blushed sweetly. This only made her more delightful.

"I hope I am not disturbing you," she said. Her voice was painfully high and sickly sweet. Almost instantly some of the goddess's filled with rage.

"You are the most beautiful goddess I have ever seen," Onicent said, he was laying on the charm in his voice. Airabella gave an angry hiss in response. Onicent continued though, "marry me." He almost begged her.

"No marry me!" Epis yelled from the floor.

"He's a child, marry me." Amos said boldly.

"Fools," Airabella muttered angrily, "she is bewitching you."

No one seemed to hear her. The goddess continued to stand in the middle, gazing up at the gods innocently.

"Tell me," Onicent almost begged, "what is your name?"

"Ilodeena," she said. "I am goddess of love."

Everything made sense to Airabella now, and she was not happy. But she had a plan, it was an angry plan, but she hoped it would work.

"Ilodeena," she said, she made her voice syrupy too, which seemed to phase Onicent slightly, he blinked and focused on his wife. "Surely such a pretty young girl wants to marry someone of her own age?"

Ilodeena blinked slightly, looking even more beautiful and sweet.

"I think we have the perfect husband for you," Airabella continued, a bit of laughter in her voice. Now Alora and Farren were listening to her. "Neonee, wouldn't you love to have such a lovely wife?"

Neonee had been gazing at Ilodeena shyly and when he heard his name he jumped.

"I bless your marriage," Airabella smiled, "all in favour." She called out.

"In favour," Alora said.

"Onicent?" Airabella said sharply. She reached across and shook him.

"Ugh- in favour." He said, he sounded confused slightly.

"Dauntice?" Airabella said, she watched Farren trying to break the spell on him.

"We are in favour," Farren said, Airabella decided to take her answer for Dauntice.

"Well then, Ilodeena, meet your husband Neonee."

Neonee got up and stumbled slightly as he walked toward her. He offered a hand to her. Ilodeena looked him up and down and sniffed slightly, turning her chin up and looking disgusted. Poor Neonee stood there unsure of what to do.

"I wish," Ilodeena said with more anger, "to join your assembly." She held both hands far from her new husband. She turned the full force of her powers on Onicent.

"Of course you may," he said sounding slightly drunk.

"That would throw the council off balance," Alora said stiffly.

"Father," said Iyora, "is it wise to allow a stranger to join our ranks."

Airabella silently agreed with the child, though she hated to admit it.

"Her husband would join us too. We shall vote then, all in favour?"

"In favour," Amos said boldly.

"In favour," Dauntice said before Farren could stop him.

"In favour," Serse said quietly, gazing at her son.

"Then it is decided, Ilodeena and Neonee welcome." Onicent created two more thrones at the ends of the line. Ilodeena sat regally on hers, and Neonee looked stunned.
