Chapter 27.
01.Reskeme realized running was painful, He had been beaten up in the morning by a sadistic trainer and was now running for his life. Reskeme kept wincing every time he took a sharp corner. The guard behind him was closing the distance and would soon catch him if something didn't change. Reskeme reached the gate while sweating He slowed to a walked and walked past the guards who looked at him oddly. Reskeme nodded to the fancy-dressed guards before he started jogging down the straight road that leads to the gate of the slums. Reskeme glance over his shoulder noticing the guard was walking through the gate as well pretending he wasn't in a rush. Reskeme cursed and ran faster, this was a mistake as his muscles screamed and he almost tripped into a passer-by.
02. Reskeme was panting for breath and didn't care about the feelings of some random person on the street. He kept bumping into the much thicker crowd that was in the merchant's districts. On the bright side, Reskeme was able to move quicker through the crowd than the much larger guard. The guard who was chasing Reskeme was having a rough time, He was used to leisurely waiting and watching. The guard looked good but his heavy armour and the relaxed job were making it extremely difficult to catch the agile messenger. Reskeme finally arrived at the end of the long street and eyed up the guards who didn't give a damn about people leaving. Reskeme jogged past the inattentive guards receiving strange looks from the people who thought he was crazy as they knew he was using the slums as a short cut.
03. Reskeme was hoping the guards were about to stop his pursuer, He realized he wasn't that lucky. Reskeme was too tired from all of his jogging to curse at his predicament. Reskeme was gasping and his side hurt, His speed had slowed down to a quick walk at this point. On the bright side, THe guard behind him was also terrible at running, he was dressed in armour and was wheezing while drenched in sweat. Reskeme had been wondering if the guard was going to give up his pursuit, As it turned out the guard was very persistent. Reskeme dashed into an alley and almost fell over his legs, his legs were arguing at his rough treatment and he stumbled scraping his knee hard on the wall. The guard who was now closing in said," I've got you now you little shit" Reskeme was feeling pissed as he didn't like running and said," You will never catch me you sack of ugly" The guard wasn't sure what a sack of ugly was but he didn't like it.
04. The guard must have picked up a stone as reskeme felt a stinging pain in his leg causing him to trip. Reskeme tumbled on the ground, luckily the guard was too tired to start the beating of the prone Reskeme. Reskeme gasped and in a terrifying motion crawled to his feet and began the chase again. The guard said, "come back soo I can beat your ass", Reskeme had no intention of making it easy on The guard. 10 minutes later and Reskeme was wondering if it would be more painful to keep running or to let the guard beat him up. Reskeme knew he should have stayed down the first time when a man in a cloak at the end of the street spotted him and smiled his menacing smile.
05. Reskeme turned around to run away only to realize there was only one alley that he could take to get away from first the guard and the man who he had given the false coins. The man ahead of him cursed and ran towards him as he turned and entered the alley. The guard was so focused on Reskeme he didn't notice the man who was now moving in his direction to follow him into the alley. Reskemes heart was beating wildly as he ran down the narrow alley, he was thinking he might be able to escape when the big man with the rusty dagger rushed around the far end of the alley. Reskeme new at this moment he was truly screwed as he could hear the loud clanking of the guard and his heavy breathing. Reskeme slid to a halt eyeing up the large thug ahead of him, Reskeme said," sorry for the intrusion kind sir how can I help you?" The tall thug eyed up the clearly exhausted and sweaty Reskeme.
06. The guard behind Reskeme arrived and said to the thug, "This little brat is mine, screw off" Reskeme pressed his back to a door frame that was unfortunately locked. Reskeme tried the door handle and knew his luck had run out. Reskeme decided he would see how things played out, the guards had decided Reskeme was his and wouldn't let any thug take him away, where the thug had noo intention of letting the cheat Reskeme get away with what he had done. The guard drew his sword and swung it around menacingly in an act to deter the thief. Reskeme glanced past the guard noticing the man with the club but deciding he would stay quiet to see how this played out. Reskeme saw hope, if these three got in a fight maybe he could escape the fight. The guard was impatient and lept forward unexpectedly making a quick lunge that caused a fountain of blood from the thug's arm. The thug screamed in pain staring in shock at his bleeding arm as he swung blindly at the guard. The thug got lucky and caused a slash across the guard's face making a horrific gash that bled profusely.
07. The guard cursed and stepped back shocked at the fountain of blood pouring out of his face. Reskeme watched in fascination as the guard's face became enraged and he thrust his sword into the thugs gut causing a horrible squelch. Reskeme gagged trying to hold down the contents of his stomach. Blood poured all over the guard's hands making them slip as he tried to pull out his pointlessly decorated sword. The man in the hood arrived as the armoured guard was skewering the thug like a kebab. The thug in the cloak hit the guard on the back causing his breastplate with a clang and a crunch. The blow from behind made the guard groan and wheeze he coughed up blood. Reskeme was frozen in place for a moment as the two remaining people in front of him were blocking his exit. Reskeme pulled his dagger out of his coat and held it in his slightly shaking hand.
08.Reskeme calmed himself as the guard managed to pick himself up and pulled a dagger out of his belt holding it in his hand while wincing at the jolt of pain. Reskeme realized the blow must have broken something even with the guard wearing armour, as blunt weapons were known for that. Reskeme kept glancing at both fighters waiting for who were glaring daggers at each other. luckily for him, both men thought he was completely useless in a fight. The unusual silence continued for a long moment before the man with the mace-like stick charged like a bull, Reskeme was watching the fight as two people fought like wild animals, the man in the cloak bit The guards exposed neck making him bleed followed by a stab from the guard in the thigh of the cloaked man, causing the thief to yell in pain. Reskeme had always thought fighting would be a dance of sword against sword, this fight made him realize a fight to the death wasn't a dance of skill, it was brutal savagery. The man in the cloak swung a wide swing hitting the guard in the side of the head causing his helmet to fly off and land with a clang. The guard staggered back collapsing to his knees, Reskeme watched the man with the mace as he took his chance and stepped forward to swing at the guards' head.
09.The guard had no intention of letting himself get struck on the head, He lifted his arm to block causing a scream of pain as his arm bent at an odd angle. Reskeme could tell the fight was about to end, He took this as his only chance and ran forward as the man in the cloak swung with both hands hitting the guard on the exposed head. A loud crunch came from the man's head in a disgusting squish. Reskeme was lucky that the man was so focused on his victory and staring at the corpse that he didn't notice Reskeme. The boy leapt onto his back and thrust his knife towards the thief's neck. Reskeme was unprepared for the man to stumble and missed his stab, his dagger plunged into the thief's shoulder causing the Cloaked man to drop his weapon. The larger man shook and caused Reskeme to fall over his shoulder landing on top of the guard, which caused Rekeme to lose his breath.
10. The man in the black cloak shouted "you little bastard" as he stepped forward and punched Reskeme with his uninjured arm. Reskeme stared at the man who was now covered in blood, his leg was injured with the guard's dagger which he had tossed on the ground and Reskemes dagger was lodged in his shoulder. Reskeme could tell the thief was about to pass out from pain and blood loss, as the man was swaying on his feet and was pale. Reskeme was gasping for breath on his back when the thief lept on top of him holding him down, he was unsure who was hurt more. Reskeme was protecting his face with his arms as the Thief began swinging with his left arm striking the boy over and over causing him to nearly pass out from the pain.
11. Reskeme felt himself passing out as he felt blows hit his stomach and sides, he decided he needed to do something as he began to taste blood or the thief was going to kill him. Reskeme channelled his balefire around his hands and grabbed the arm of the thief. The man looked confused for only a moment before he screamed as the all-consuming fire began devouring flesh and blood. Reskeme watched in fascination and dread, as his flames fueled by his frantic channelling consumed the man's skin in a matter of seconds. The screaming thief was flailing around and trying to put out the balefire. Reskeme didn't let up and jumped forward grabbing the man's chest causing the flame to ignite the man's clothing like a torch. Reskeme retreated quickly from the man before cursing as he realized he no longer had his throwing knife.
12. Reskeme looked around the alley noticing a man staring at him in horror as he stood in front of the human-sized torch of green fire. At this moment Reskeme realized his illusions had faded when he channelled mana around both hands. Reskeme cursed, He had forgotten how to properly cast his spell in the middle of the fight. Reskeme had forgotten that he needed to channel his mana outside his illusions or they would break. Reskeme noticed the guards bloody knife on the ground and quickly picked it up. He turned towards the person at the end of the alley and noticed them running around the corner, The person was screaming with all they could. Demon! Demon! Demon!. Reskeme Knew he needed to getaway. But first, he channelled his mana, This was a mistake and reskeme almost passed out from the pain of casting his spells soo many times in a day. He created his first layer of mana recreating his disguise, he cursed himself a fool as he couldn't create the colour for his hair disguise. Reskeme ran in terror, the opposite direction of the yelling man.
