Beginning

Aaron's POV:

Since the past few minutes I have been gazing in her seemingly disinterested eyes and when I couldn't contain myself any longer, I snapped at her, " Are you even paying attention? The delegates will be here in an hour."

Her eyes appeared to darken ever so slightly but maybe it was a trick of light, but the slight scowl which appeared on her otherwise emotionless face was definitely not something I imagined. It seemed that she did not like being disturbed from her stupor. Well she could show her tantrums to someone who actually cared, for this meeting was extremely important for me. I was about to voice out my thoughts when the scowl on her face vanished without a trace and there was such base amusement in them that if I was not so sure then I would've thought that I had imagined that scowl. That was all the time I got to contemplate because then she began to speak.

" I don't think I need to prove anything to anyone Mr. Calloway," She drawled while sipping her coffee, "but if you insist..."

It was all I could do to stop myself from wiping that stupid smirk from her face, Gods her arrogance! But then, well then I wished that I had not uttered a single word because it seemed that I had awoken a sleeping beast. A beast that did not like being awoken and wanted to prove as much. She began the long list of errors that she noticed in the presentation and by a long list I mean Every Single Error, down to even an apostrophe. My mouth gaped open and I am sure that I looked like a fish. It shouldn't have been possible, I was almost sure that she was not paying attention.....

"And that is why this is one of the crappiest presentation I have ever had the pleasure of reviewing," With that lazy smirk still on her face she continued, " That too when there is not even an hour left for the oh-so-important delegates to arrive as Mr. Calloway so kindly reminded us."

When no one made any move to respond, still gawking at her analysis she lifted that perfect eyebrows of her and said, "Leave." All the while examining her manicure which was as usual, flawless.

And that one word was enough to break us all out of our stupors. Every one rushed to correct the mistakes as well as could be done in an hour, almost clambering over each other as if in a race to see who could escape from her first. Wise people, for it was when she spoke so calmly, her eyes the only thing which betrayed a flicker of amusement, was when she was the most dangerous, lethal even.

It seemed that I was not as smart as the others as I still lingered back, waiting to see if I could grab a private moment with her but she dismissed me with the flick of her manicured fingers. I couldn't understand how she managed to look graceful while doing it. I was about to leave, trying to make it look as if it was my own will and that she had not dismissed me as pathetically as one would dismiss a yapping dog.

Her phone rang.

I wished I had not stopped outside her cabin door, but it seemed that I did not have as much control over myself as I thought since I let my curiosity get the better of me. Curiosity killed the cat, didn't it? Or so the saying goes. It seemed I was to learn the wisdom behind these seemingly mundane words much, much later. My first mistake.

She had already forgotten all about me so why not utilize the chance? I couldn't help but want to know what or rather who had rattled her enough to cause that emotionless mask of hers to crack, even if it was ever so slightly. She picked up the call, all traces of her annoyance hidden behind that stony mask once more, her voice no more than a husky drawl.

"..."

"Tell me"

"......"

"Oh! I didn't realize we had moved on to being civil to each other"

"...."

"I rather liked the grumpy you, come to the point already."

"........"

"I know."

Two words and her tone appeared sharper and much more clipped. It annoyed me that I couldn't glean any information from this conversation, seeing that I could only hear one side of it which was not helpful at all. It appeared to me to be a normal conversation with her usual sass and tons of attitude. Lost in my musings and thoroughly bored, I decided to head out when I noticed the overhead lights were flickering. Again. This was becoming a nuisance, the lights had to be replaced as I didn't want us to appear careless in front of the delegates. I was lost in my thoughts when I somehow noticed that her clipped tone had given way to anger, the first show of any emotion since the phone call. That was when I realized that I had not heard the rest of her words. My second mistake.

And then I realized that the cabinet door was open and that anger was aimed at me. I was not happy to be at the recieving end of that anger at all. Her face hardened and her brows set into a scowl, and she was still glaring at me. I was Definitely not enjoying her attention and I am sure it was showing on my face. I was afraid and correctly so, for after all despite my curiosity I did not have a death wish. She gestured me to follow her and then proceeded to shut the door.I was about to open my mouth to make up some lame excuse when her eyebrows crinkled and she began laughing. Actually laughing.

"If you want to eavesdrop on someone, make sure to not be spotted," She wheezed out between her laughter. " You would make a terrible spy, I must say."

She was about to say something else when some one knocked on the cabinet door. Bad timing, for any traces of her laughter vanished from her face and it smoothed back into her emotionless mask. Very bad timing, indeed.

They wanted her help or something like that for I was more focused on the tightening of her shoulders and her prowling gait. I had dismissed the phone call as one of her usual business related ones. The last traces of its memories all but vanished from my mind. My third mistake.

"I'll be there in a moment Sheldon." Yes she addressed the others by their names, the formalities it seemed, were limited to me. "That never happened." With those three words she stalked out of the cabin, walking faster than anyone had the right to in those killer high heels.

"Ayvah wait!" Was all that I managed to say while trying to catch up to her. She was fast.
