Chapter 399: ALL BY MYSELF

WEDNESDAY, 10 FEBRUARY, NIGHT

"Remember that no one should approach or contact this room until the rest of my Alpha's staff arrive tomorrow." Harvey cautioned again, "If there is any urgent matter, call or send staff to my suite. Make sure the head manager in the morning shift is notified as well."

"Yes sir." Mason pocketed his tip and bowed himself out.

The moment we were alone again, Harvey visibly relaxed again. He held out a dining chair for me, "Dinner is ready, Princess."

I went over to sit. Yum! It was a really good smelling, tall and stocky burger! The kind that was probably freshly hand made. There were like ten layers of ingredients skewered between two buns plus fries and coleslaw on the side.

I plucked off the skewer and picked up the burger. It was so large, I needed both hands, and then I had to angle my head to get a good bite of it, "Yum!"

Harvey started eating too.

"This is pretty good." He said, "If I had known the chef could make burgers like this, I would have ordered it more."

"Do you come here often?" I asked, and then I remembered, "Oh right, your family has a suite here. I didn't know you lived in Gate City now."

Harvey paused, "Ah no, we don't live here. It's more... Well I think it started as an investment and parent's retirement plan. But now we use it in the summer, like a holiday getaway. I wouldn't say it's a secret, but we don't talk about it. It's private, the staff are all human, we aren't the beta family here, and it's less than an hour's drive back home so Dad could attend pack work during vacation whenever he's needed."

A beta's work is never done, but wow. Compared to the hut on top of the hill retirement plan my dad had, Harvey's parents had a really nice retirement plan. A really, really cushy plan.

"I won't tell anyone." I promised Harvey, "It's always nice to have your own space."

Especially if your own space was in THE LANGSTON.

"Thanks." Harvey gave me one of his usual wry smiles.

After the meal, Harvey cleared the table and collected the trays together, "I better go to my own suite now, princess. Please do not leave your suite. If there is anything you need, do not hesitate to mindlink me directly."

I nodded obediently.

Actually, there was one thing... I didn't want to be left alone in this strange apartment, but of course I didn't say it.

Harvey saw himself to the front door, "Goodnight, princess."

I gave him a small wave, "Night Harvey. Thanks for taking care of everything."

"It was my pleasure, princess." Harvey said with his usual wry smile and a nod before shutting himself out of my suite.

Okay, so now I'm all alone in a huge suite. I wished Savy and Mum and Dad and even Sabre were here too. Oh and Ki too. It would be just like before in the alpha apartment. Mum and Dad would sleep in the master room. Savy, Sabre, and I could squeeze in the second room. And Harvey and Ki could use the third room.

That would be perfect.

And then I realised how I had it so good at home. I mean yeah, the Langston was grand and cool and all, but there was no place like home. Suddenly, I was feeling homesick for my golden clamshell, or at least Sir Sparkalot. I realised I didn't like the smell of the A Suite at the Langston. It smelled like carpet and laundry, but without the laundry softener that Ki used, or the lemony tinge of my bedroom.

I felt my mouth turned down. Hotel stays were overrated, even if it were the Langston.

I thought of mindlinking Mum, but that would be lame. I'm the alpha. I didn't need to mindlink my mum before I went to bed!

Right, I should go to bed. Maybe I should just pretend I was at home. Shower! No, bath! No! It's jacuzzi bubble bath time. Hahaha.

I grabbed the small bottle of bubble bath and went to the bathroom. It took a while to figure it out. The controls were like a microwave touchpad. Hmmm... There was like speed and heat and time... I turned it on and the water started pouring out. Then I emptied the bottle in. When working with tech you don't understand, it's best to just not think too hard about it.

The bubbles got made really fast. The jacuzzi was like the ultimate bubble making machine. I pretended that I was the laundry in the washing machine and swirled around in it. Then I randomly pressed the control till the water calmed down. Sigh... this was nice.

I languished in the warm water till I felt myself go pruney. Usually I stayed till the water cooled but the water wasn't cooling. This jacuzzi had a "keep warm" function. In many ways, this jacuzzi was like an extra large induction pot.

By the time I realised that I was being "kept warm", I had caught up reading on my Kindle which turned out to be mentally draining.

I used a damp face towel to wipe my face and blew bubbles in my bath water. I should get out. I imagined I was a crab in a pot of water being heated up to cook. Oh this is nice. I really should get out of here, but I'm so relaxed... It's so warm and relaxing... I'm turning into mush.

Sigh... I really wouldn't mind becoming mush, but I didn't want to be found by Harvey drowned in the jacuzzi in the morning... Nake! Omo. The humiliation!

All the good feelings gone, I pulled myself out of the jacuzzi and managed to get it to drain itself. Then I looked for shampoo and found, quite to my surprise, that the miniature bottles of soaps and shampoos and conditioner was the EXACT same Sakura scented ones as the one I usually used.

There were two rows, a pale pink row which was the Sakura in my bathroom at home, and a pale gold version of the same three bottles in "White Tea and Ginger."

I decided to try something new... Which turned out to be what I had always assumed was Ki's cologne.

So these were Ki's toiletries? It probably wasn't the ginger that we ate because it didn't smell anything like ginger. I'm not sure what white tea was supposed to smell like, but it wasn't milky. Actually, it didn't smell like anything edible. I'm not sure how to describe it, mild and fresh at first and then this cool austere chemical smell that lent a very sophisticated and expensive scent.

Basically, it smelled like Ki.

After that I used the Sakura scented conditioner and now I was clean, pruny, and smell like peach (bubble bath), Ki (shampoo), and Sakura (conditioner). Hahaha.

Oh well, it's not like there was anyone around to smell me.

I bet it was really late by now. I shifted, shook, and shifted back to finish drying off. I had to rewear my underclothes, but there were nice warm white bathrobes with the Langston's hotel crest embroidered on it. I wrapped it over and tied it securely.

I was pretty good at tying bows and stuff on my person now. I credit it to having to tie a ribbon around my neck everyday to go to school.

I didn't want to rewear my uniform. I had hung it carefully to air just now. I didn't have anything else to wear home tomorrow so I had to make do.

So there I was, plodding out to the bedroom, trying to be brave about being all by myself tonight. I can do this. It's no big deal. I'll just climb into this oversized bed and sleep all by myself... Except that I realised at this point that I wasn't all by myself anymore!

{Mate!}

Okay, so he was currently just a lump under the covers in the middle of the bed, but I knew it was him.

I pounced on top of the lump in my bed.

{Mate! Mate! Mate!}

The lumped groaned a little and sat up.

Mate! It was really him!

I grinned at him, still straddling his lap over the thick quilt.

"Guess what?" I asked him excitedly, "Guess where we are?"

He would never guess it.

Mate rubbed his head and looked around, he did look surprise, "Where- and then he turned to me, "Is this the Langston?"

Eh?

"How did you know? Did someone tell you?"

Mate pushed himself up so that he was sitting properly now, "I've been here. This is their A Suite."

Oh.

I sulked at the arrogance on his stoopid Lorent face.

"Why are we here, princess?" Mate looked a little tense, "Where are your betas?"

"Harvey has his own suite... We got stuck here because of the snowstorm." I bounced up and down, "I thought I had to be all by myself tonight..."

Mate cut me off when he grabbed me by the shoulders, "F*** it, stop that, princess."

He shoved me off his lap. He was such grouch.

I meant to cross my arms and sulk at him but he shoved me so hard I fell backwards on the bed. Like full comedic leg up in the air fall back.

But Mate didn't laugh like I thought he would. He just got even madder, "What the f***!"

I sat up bewildered. Maybe it was better to be all by myself. I was happy to see him, I thought we could have some fun since we were at the Langston and all, but Mate just got madder and madder.

He was all but growling now.

"Why aren't you wearing anything?" He managed between the growling.

I looked down and realised my bathrobe had undone a little bit. Nothing too mortifying though. Lucky. Just my leg. The V of the bathrobe was a little opened, I tightened it and pulled down one of the ends to cover my leg more. All fixed. Good thing I didn't decide to go commando, huh? Hahaha.

"Princess... What are you trying to do?" Mate groaned in his hand.

"Nothing." I said, "Except maybe have a bit of fun."

"What type of fun?" Mate growled back. He looked like he was having trouble keeping his wolf in check.

"I don't know. What's fun to do at the Langston?" I asked Mate. I mean, he was the one who what been here before.

Mate glared at me. I sighed. I guess it can't be helped that my soul mate was the biggest grouch in the world.

I suddenly remembered how Harvey was also colder when we first came. Something about the Langston, even if Harvey's family owned a suite here, he was uncomfortable about bringing me here.

Mate's anger... stemmed from some kind of discomfort? He obviously didn't want to be here with me.

Sigh. I tried to make things better, "The hotel gave us a free snack buffet. There's even coke."

I got off the bed and opened the fridge to show him.

He only looked confused.

So I took out a can of coke, "Do you want one?"

"No." He grounded out. He was still mad, but less mad. He had stopped growling.

In his deep quiet voice, he said then, "Princess, you're telling me that we have the entire A Suite to ourselves at the Langston and you want to raid the snack bar and drink coke?"

"There isn't much else to do." I admitted, "I already soaked so long in the jacuzzi, I was this close to turn into an amoeba. I don't have a change of clothes so I can't leave the room to play. Plus Mum said to not cause Harvey trouble... so it's not like we could take apart all the bedding and make a giant fort."

Because you know, the thought did come to mind, but it wouldn't be fun without Savy or Ben or Dean or the rest of my gang to play too.

I looked at Mate carefully. He did not look like the kind who'd like to pillow fight. Right now, it looked like he was the kind who liked to frown at me and scold me.

I flared. I was at the Langston and there was no way I was going to let Mr Grouch ruin my fun. I popped open the can of coke and took a long swing. Ah! Even the coke here tasted more expensive!

And guess what? It was FREE. I mean complimentary.

I took another drink and went about searching out a particular bag of chips I saw the smiley guy stock into the kitchen somewhere.

Mate got out of bed and took off his t-shirt, "Here, at least put this on underneath."

"Why?" I found the chips I was looking for. It wouldn't open.

"Because it's distracting." Mate said accusingly.

I really have no idea what got his goat today, but I really didn't think it was fair that I had to put up with his random bouts of bad temper.

I know, I know, he was an alpha wolf. Bad tempers, short fuses, bossiness, and dominance was all part of it. But geesh! I had enough.

I was about to ignore him and turn on the TV when he reached my side and grabbed the lapels of my robe closer together. Then he sighed and dropped his t-shirt over my head, "Just get dressed."

And then he left the bedroom.

Good riddance to bad company! I sniffed at his t-shirt and felt disappointed because like it's owner, it was currently scentless.

I took off my robe and pulled on his t-shirt. It was long enough to just cover my panties. Good enough!

Then I walked out to tell Mate I was done.

"Grrr..." Mate said the moment he saw me. He grabbed me by the arm and dragged me into the room. Picking up the robe I left on a nearby chair, he pushed it towards me, "Put it on."

I shook off his grip on my arm, "It's hot."

"You can't walk around wherever you like without pants." Mate exclaimed at me.

"Alright already." I put on the robe and knotted the front, "Happy now? It's not a big deal, I'm in my own room, and it wasn't much shorter than one of your Lorent Ceremony dresses!"

Mate ran a hand through his wild hair, "You..."

"I what?" I challenged.

"I..." Mate tried again, but he kept growling hard so it was hard for him to form the words.

"Grrr..." He ended up just growling at me.

And at that moment, for some inexplicable reason, I just thought my mate was really cute.

Even though he had appeared as suddenly and angrily as the snow storm outside.

I rubbed his bare back, "There, there. Don't be mad. Let's go binge on junk food and sodas in front of the TV."

The growling stopped, "Are you serious? That's all you want to do?"
