Chapter 5: Steph

Finally bringing his thoughts back to reality David noticed the woman patiently sitting on her knees where she had lay before. Looking at him intently she noticed he was now looking as her, "Who are you really? En Sabah Nur would have never brought me back to life." She asked

David was slightly taken aback, then sighed and nodded, "It was not me who saved you, but you are right regardless. Apparently, to save this world, someone else needed to use this body. My name is David"

The woman slightly tilted her head to the side and said nothing for what seemed like ages to David, he really did not wish to have to kill her after her display of loyalty, even if it took ages, it would be worth getting her on his side.

Eventually, she spoke, "Very well, he is gone, you are here. I will follow you. Do not betray my loyalty, David. Oh, wait, do I get a new name too?"

Sighing internally David was really not sure what to make of this woman, either she adapted to situations really well, or she was a complete ditz and he had made a big mistake, "Urm, I have always liked the name Stephenie, Steph for short."

"Steph? I like that allot more than Death. So, David how are we saving this world? Also, can we eat before we do?"

A few days later the underground cavern had been cleared out and the nanites were busy integrating themselves with the technology left there. David was busy explaining his thought process to Steph, who seemed to understand where he was headed, "So two points I feel are a given, mutants need to call Evolved Humans, Evo-Humans or even Evo's because mutant just does not work out for us." Steph nodded seriously and asked, "Okay, so one question, what is a mutant?"

As he lowered his head David reminded himself it was 3600BC, her question was to be expected, with this in mind he started to explain this as best he could to Steph, in great detail, using small words, everything he thought she might need to know.

"The next point is the influence of Xavier, he is someone who took in a lot of Evo's, but he prepared them to hide and be the human's pets." Noticing the look on Steph he quickly added, "I mean he thought it was best for Evo's to protect the human's but to never go against them as he was scared humanity would turn on Evo's."

"Can I have pets?" Steph asked.

Gritting his teeth and forcing a smile David responded, "We can talk about that another time."

"Okay!" replied Steph excitedly.

It was a day later that he received the notification the nanites had succeeded. He how had a celestial grade supercomputer to help him. He immediately set it to scan for any disturbances of any kind.

David was considering resting for a period, but he was sure Steph would have died by the time he awoke. It was time to give the woman an upgrade.

Calling Steph over David explained, "Steph, we are going to have a time when we will be sleeping of a very long time, so I think it would be best If I made you immortal to ensure you survive, what do you think?"

Steph's cheeks flared up crimson as she lowered her head, "Well, uh, if that's what you want, but … are you really going to be that rough you need to make me Immortal?"

David smiled patiently, he really should have seen that one coming, "No Steph, real sleep. Please just relax a moment." Steph nodded and closed her eyes, the shade of red on her cheeks reducing quite a bit. David reached over and touched her head, copying his ability to her.
