Chapter 141: Fear & Trembling

Chase strokes my back and hair. "What is it?"

"The Light," I say, spitting it, like it's a curse. "He wants me to choose."

Chase hesitates. "That's bad?"

"It is when I don't know which choice is the right one!" I whisper scream, lifting my head finally to let myself meet his green-gold eyes, so filled with hurt and worry.

The choices are already presented. You are the one who must decide who and what you follow. 

It breaks me. Sobs burst out of my throat and I can't stop them anymore. I'm a trembling, crying mess—exactly the kind of woman I hate. The one who falls apart when things get hard.

No, no, Chase whispers in my head. It's not like that.

I cling to his shoulders, terrified, suddenly, that he'll leave me and how would I even walk through a day without him?
