Chapter 7: ~Chapter Six~ Walking On Thin Ice
In the morning I awoke with the sun rays hitting my face. The pup was still asleep and I felt Jake's hand on my waist still. I slowly turned to face Jake who was fast asleep. I smiled. His face was peacefully asleep. He looked exhausted from the fight he had with the huge black wolf yesterday. I slowly got out of his grasp and slowly climbed over him. I looked back to see the pup was awake. I smiled. "You hungry. Huh?" I asked as the wolf wagged it's tail while laying down. I smiled as I quietly walked over to the plates of food Jake had brought in. I opened the bag and found some warm beacon inside. I filled a plate with all you can eat beacon for the pup and place it at the near edge of the opposite side Jake was sleeping in. I smiled whiling eating a tuna sandwich as Jake slept peacefully. As me and the pup finished I placed the empty plates in the trashcan.
I only gave the pup 3 pieces of beacon scared that if I filled it up he would puke or get sick. I saved some food for Jake as I knotted the garbage bag. The pup then was anxiously wagging it's tail sitting on the edge of the bed like it was waiting for something. "Oh!" I then got the gist. I grabbed the puppy gently placing him in my lap as I sat down on the chair near the window. We both looked outside as we stared at the people and the white snowy field. I then heard Jake shift in between the covers. I turned towards his direction as he then started to search for me with his hands searching the bed sheets. I smiled. "Check behind you." I said as Jacob turned to his side and smile. "Good morning." He said as he got up. He walked over to me and the pup. "How are you feeling little guy?" He asked as the dog yipped with joy. Me and Jake both smiled. "He's doing better but we need to get him to walk these six weeks at least." I said looking up at Jacob. "Baby steps Ave. Baby steps." He said as we both looked at the pup.
1st Day
Jacob and Ave took the up outside for the first time in the big wide open field. They stayed behind the pup to make sure he was safe before continuing to try to walk. He made it half a mile and then couldn't anymore. Ave picked him up. "You did good today." Ave said looking at the pup who was starring at her tiredly yawning. Jacob walked up behind Ave and petted the pup.
3rd Day
Ave and Jacob would run and the pup would catch up to them. Soon after he was start running after than the two of them. This time he made it 1 mile. As the pup stopped for his parents to come. Ave crouched down, crossing her legs on the ground to have the pup jump in her lap. The pup licked her various times on the cheek. She smiled widely as Jacob came and crouched beside her and the pup. He patted the pup's head and smiled. "We're getting there. We need to give this guy a name." Jacob said as Ave thought for a moment. She looked at Jacob. "What? don't look at me your the one who rescued the pup." Jake said as Ave stared at him. "You saved us both." Ave remind Jacob. "Let's call him Damien." Ave said as the pup yipped joyfully as he jumped in the snow. Ave smiled. "He likes the name." Jacob said looking towards Ave as she smiled. "You have to think of a last name" Ave said as their face were inches a apart. Jacob was on one knee crouching down at Ave's level as he leaned closer to her pecking her lips. They pulled away for a few seconds. Then going back in as the pup jumped around cheerfully wagging it's tail at his new 'parents'. Ave and Jacob looked at the pup as it joined in for a lot of kisses.
6th Day
I was walking with Jacob and the pup when all of a sudden Paul and the others came. "Jake." Paul said in a deep voice.His face was very serious. Jake looked at him for awhile before responding. "What is it?" Jake asked annoyed as he stared at Paul. Jake's facial expression changed into a more calmer one as if he knew what Paul had just said. "She already knows." Jake said as Sam looked at Jake with betrayal. "She was bound to find out either way Paul." Diego says. Felix looks at me. So do the other boys. The pup walks beside me. "Jacob you just broke the most important rule!" Paul said in a angrier voice." Paul, don't be angry at Jacob." I said in a soft tone. Jake and the boys looked at me. "DON'T concern yourself with our business." Sam shouted as I tried to regain my confidence after being yelled at. "Don't yell at her!" Jake said in a low toned growl defensively getting in front of me. "Jacob, It's fine." I said as I grabbed his hand. He calmed down a bit at the sound of my voice. Paul observed me and how I managed to calm Jacob down. "She was bond to find out.." Paul says as he looks at Jacob with apologetic eyes. " Sam looks at Paul with betrayal and disgust. "Your really gonna just say that? This girl knows things she shouldn't!" "Sam that's enough!" Paul yelled as Sam quieted down, but left the group in a rush straight towards the resort. Diego, Felix and the other older males of their group Oliver and Max rushed trailing behind Sam. Paul turned to face me. "I apologize, I'll have him apologize to you when he calms down." I looked at Paul with understanding. "Paul, it's okay I understand." Paul looked at Ave with an admirable attitude. "Thank you for understanding. I'll go after Sam. We'll talk later Jacob." Paul said as he left Jacob and I alone.
As I'm left with Jacob I held onto his arm as Paul left. I was still so shocked over the fact that Sam threw out his all his anger at me. Jacob turned to look at me. "You okay?" He asked worriedly. I nodded. He placed his hand to my cheek. "I'm fine." I said as I hugged him around his torso and felt his arms go around my shoulders. I then realized that I couldn't hear Damien's tail wag in the wind or his heavy breathing. I leaned back from Jacob. "What's wrong?" Jacob asked. "Damien. Where's Damien??" I asked him frantically. I looked at our surroundings as Jake did the same. "Stay here. I'll look for him." Jake went into the wide open field to find our 'son'. That pup was like my baby to me. I loved him to death. Ever since the incident I've always been so careful with him.
I heard a yelp and looked into the direction of the forest. I followed it worried for my life that Damien would have made contact with a bear. I sprinted right into the forest. When I saw a big lake in the middle of it. The snow around the lake made it clear to see. I then looked at my surroundings franticallylooking for my fur baby. I then turned my glance at the middle of the lake. My fur baby was walking on the ice. It's back towards me. "Damien! Damien!" I yelled as I then saw his little body crack through the ice and fall into the cold water. "Damien no!" Tears came down my freezing face. I was already cold as it was. I ran towards the water taking off my huge jacket and diving into the cold water.
They weren't joking when they said the water would be freezing below -10 this time of year. I swam within the dark, cold, deep freezing lake to try and find my pup. I opened my eyes under water trying to search for Damien. I waited to see if I could find his white fur. But instead I saw blackness in the cold water.I could feel the thousand knives piercing through my system every second I spent underwater. I was now in the cold water with no where to escape. I tried to find an exit as I felt within seconds a few sharp teeth grab me from the collar on my cotton sweater. It was the brown wolf. Jacob...He laid me on the snowy lake 3 feet away from the cracked hole that consumed my fur baby... Or so I thought...
As The wolf turned into Jacob. I was freezing and shivering, on the cold ground as Jacob tightly wrapped me around his big long arms. Slowly warming me up. He held me close to his body. "Ave! Ave! Listen to me! do not fall sleep!" Jacob warned. I tried to keep awake but I was so cold. "Jake..." I said breathlessly. I could see Paul and the others running behind Jake. Jake turned to Paul as Paul stared right ahead. "Those Thirsty sons of bitches!" Sam yelled as Paul put an arm out stopping him."What are you doing!? Your gonna let them!-" I looked towards their stares and saw the pale boys from our 7th period class. My vision was blurry.But, I could still make out figures..."Let them go Sam. We'll deal with them later." Paul reassured Sam as Jake tightened his grip around my freezing-ly numb body. "Ave can you hear me?" Paul asked as he crouched down. I slowly nodded. Felix grabbed my coat, I had thrown earlier and Jake wrapped me around it lifting me up and carrying me bridal style. I leaned against Jake's warm chest. It was like sleeping near a warm bonfire. I slowly closed my eyes as the resort came into view. I drifted off into deep sleep.
