Chapter 49: Chapter 49:
A/N: Not going to lie, I hit one too many buttons for the second chapter yesterday. But oh well, you guys deserve the second chapter. You're all incredible and I hope you continue to show so much support. Enjoy the chapter and have an amazing day.
Raven: "Girls, join me at the table. You boy, can sit as far from me as possible. You remind me of an annoying set of twins I used to know."
Neo, Weiss and Yang all take a seat around the table while Topaz remains standing at the door. Vernal walks into the tent behind him and shoves him out of her way.
Vernal: "Move animal."
Raven: "Vernal, we have talked about this."
Vernal: *sigh* "I'm sorry Raven, it will take some time. You know what happened to my family."
Raven: "I know Vernal, but it still is no reason to take it out on someone who wasn't a part of it."
Topaz looks at Vernal and can see the anger she holds in her eyes. Raven however looks around the group with a calm, calculating glint in her eye. She takes a sip of her tea before focusing on Yang in front of her.
Raven: "Yang, you've grown up so much since I last saw you."
Yang: "That tends to happen when you abandon your family for many years, mother."
Raven: "You got my looks, and sharp tongue I see."
Topaz: "She did get Tai's kind heart though."
Raven: "Did I ask you for your statement boy?"
Yang: "Enough mom. If you will not treat Topaz with respect you will get none from me or Neo."
Raven: "Neo, ah yes. I remember why you look so familiar now. How is the little thief doing?"
Neo narrows her gaze at Raven before shrugging her shoulders. Typing on her scroll she hands it to Yang to read aloud.
{I'm doing pretty good, my thieving days are long behind me. Topaz has helped make sure of that. How is the murderer doing?}
Topaz chokes back a laugh at her spiteful retort. Even more so when he sees the anger behind Raven's eyes.
Vernal: "You! Treat Raven with the respect she deserves bi-"
Topaz quickly turns on Vernal and glares at her.
Topaz: "Finish that sentence, and I will show you the respect you deserve for threatening my girlfriend."
Raven: "Both of you, calm yourselves."
Topaz takes a deep breathe and walks away from Vernal.
Raven: "Vernal, you may leave us."
Vernal: "But-"
Raven: "Leave! You are causing more issues than you are helping."
Vernal: "Very well. I'm sorry Raven."
Vernal turns and leaves the tent. Once she leaves Raven turns back to the girls and they begin their discussion.
Raven: "Since I see you are still adamant about joining my idiot brother, let me tell you what you are actually getting yourselves into."

After a very, very long and rather surprising conversation, Topaz rubs his forehead hoping to calm the growing headache. The girls stare wide-eyed at how crazy Raven's words sounded.
Topaz: "So let me get this straight… Ozpin, is someone who has lived literally many lives, and is fighting against an immortal witch who rules the grimm?"
Raven: "Pretty much."
Weiss: "I have a very hard time believing that. Magic is real? Wouldn't there be something that would have been seen by anyone else that proves its existence?"
Raven: "Fine, follow me."
Standing up, Raven walks out the back of her tent without another word. The girls look at each other before turning to look at Topaz. Topaz nods and takes a step towards where Raven left through. The girls followed after, only to find an open clearing, and no Raven in sight. Hearing a bird call from in front of them, Topaz sees a small black bird flying in.
Weiss: "A raven?"
Yang: "I think I recognize that bird."
The raven flies behind a tree and then reappears in front of the group. Topaz watches as the bird begins to change shape, quickly transforming into Raven. She walks over to the group before standing in front of Weiss.
Raven: "Is that proof enough for you girl?"
Weiss: "…"
Topaz: "Alright then. Magic is real, good to know."
Raven: "The whole point behind the attack on Beacon was for one of the witch's pawns to gain one of those maiden powers that Ozpin was hiding there."
Raven walks a little bit away from the group before grabbing her sword. Drawing the blood red blade Topaz walks in front of the girls and gets into a stance to try and defend the girls. Raven smirks at him before swiping the air, creating a red portal from nowhere.
Raven: "After learning what you're up against, you can either go to Qrow, and face death at every turn, or join me here, and remain safe."
Yang: "All I care about is making sure my sister is safe."
Yang leaves to grab Bumblebee and Neo and Weiss follow after her to make sure she's safe.
Topaz: "Raven, if what you've said is true about this witch, then nowhere is safe."
Raven is taken back by his statement. Pondering the reality of his words, she frowns and stares at Topaz.
Raven: "Maybe so, but I'd rather have my family around me when the time comes."
Topaz: "Oh really? Weren't you the one who left your own flesh and blood behind to join a band of thieves and murderers?"
Raven: "They are my family!"
Topaz: "Do you even know the meaning of that word?"
Raven: "Better than you'll ever know."
Topaz: "Sure, sure. I'm sure Yang understands you abandoning her. Mother of the year right there."
Raven: "Go through the portal, I'm sick of your face."
Topaz: "I'll tell my mom you said that."
Raven: "Your mother, who is it?"
Topaz: "Who knows, but Sara says hi."
Raven: "Sara… s-she's alive?!"
Topaz: "Maybe, but she is rather angry at you for what you did to Yang and Tai."
Raven: "Gods save me if I see her again."
Topaz: "I'll tell her you say hi and lead her here the next time I see her for you."
Raven: "Guess the tribe will be leaving here after you leave."
Topaz: "Oh well, hope you enjoy your 'family' Raven"
At that moment, the girls returned with Yang's Bumblebee. Yang and Weiss hop onto the bike, and Neo grabs onto Topaz's hand. Walking into the portal after Yang, Topaz finds himself onto a balcony of an unfamiliar place.
Qrow: "Raven… Oh! It's good to see you kids."
Yang: "Hey uncle Qrow."
Weiss: "Greetings."
Topaz: "Hey old man. I see you're still kicking."
Qrow: "Topaz, you're still in one piece I see. I figured your tribe would have eaten you alive when you returned. How's your mother?"
Topaz: "She's good. She and Summer have been inseparable since we returned."
Qrow: "Sara is back?"
Topaz: "I don't know. Maybe."
Qrow: "I hate you Topaz."
Topaz: "I missed you too old man."
Qrow leads the group into this large building, Topaz can hear laughing coming from what he assumes is the kitchen, along with an appetizing aroma of home cooked food.
Qrow: "Ruby, come here for a second."
Ruby: "Just a second."
Qrow: "Ruby, come here now, there's people who would like to see you."
Ruby goes quiet for a moment. Topaz can hear some bickering coming from the kitchen and then a minor smell of something burning. Ruby soon exits the kitchen holding a tray with a tea kettle and tea cups.
Ruby: "Hey Qrow, who…"
Ruby stands frozen in the doorway, looking at Yang. She drops the tray and its contents shatter upon impact.
Ruby: "Yang, I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have left. I-"
Yang quickly shuts her up by giving her a loving hug. Ruby goes stiff at the sudden hug, but quickly hugs her sister back.
Yang: "I missed you Rubes."
Ruby: "I missed you too."
After a bit, Ruby backs away from the hug and sees everyone else who is there. Weiss quickly wipes a tear from her eye at the happy interaction.
Ruby: "Weiss, get over here."
Yang: "Yeah bring it in Weiss. Team hug time."
Weiss makes her way over to her teammates and is quickly wrapped in their arms. Topaz smiles and pulls Neo into a hug of their own. Hearing footsteps approaching from behind, Topaz turns and finds Ren and Nora walking into the room with big smiles on their faces. More footsteps approach, and Topaz is surprised to see Jaune and Pyrra make their way into the room, hands interlocked.
Topaz: "Hey guys."
