Chapter 585: 550. Obito’s Betrayal
At some distance from the barrier,
Madara and Black Zetsu glance at the battlefield from the top of a mountain.
"Did you expect Obito to betray you?" Black Zetsu asks Madara.
"Obito's betrayal wasn't surprising. Even back then, when he was a kid, he never trusted me and the same goes for me. I didn't entrust him with all of my secrets. Also, between us, it was always a relationship of use and being used. And Obito knows it very well." Madara laughs and shakes his head.
"I carefully laid out my master plan to remove all obstacles along my way such as the Senju clan, the Uzumaki clan, the Uchiha clan, and the Hyuga clan, and yet all of them persist to the end. Not only that, the strength of the Uchiha clan and even the Hyuga clan improved to another degree."
"Just what went wrong with my planning?" Madara attempts to recall the flaw in his plan.
Before his natural death, his plan was smooth sailing with no obstacles and yet when he was finally resurrected, everything was in a mess.
"However, what was unexpected was the resistance of the Allied Shinobi force!" Madara's expression turns serious.
He scrutinizes the barrier laid down by the Allied Shinobi Force.
"This barrier… I am afraid it's the strongest barrier I have ever seen in the Shinobi History. This strength of this barrier has far surpassed anything in the shinobi world." Madara analyzes the barrier with his Rinnegan.
"I am afraid it will be quite difficult for Ten-tail to break this barrier in its current state." Madara clicks his tongue.
"Still, it's not like it's not amendable."
"So, how do you plan to deal with them? Search for the weakness of the barrier and attack it!" Black Zetsu asks him.
"Hahaha… why should we do the work when someone else will do it for us?" Madara breaks out in laughter.
Madara glances at the raging Ten-tail within the barrier.
"I have trust in Obito's ambition. I am sure he won't disappoint me." Madara chuckles.
"There is going to be a fun show to watch."

Obito and Kakashi appear within the Kamui dimension.
HAAH…
Both of them trade blows and block each other's kicks.
Swish… swish… swish…
The duo exchanges a series of blows and finally separates when they are evenly matched in the Taijutsu battle.
"Just like the old time, Kakashi!" Obito grins as he stares at Kakashi.
"Back then, you were the village prodigy of Konoha, a genius, and I was a sore loser of the academy. We regularly fought against each other in the academy and I never won a single spar against you."
Clang… clang…
The duo takes out their kunais and shurikens and engages in another battle.
"And this persisted even after our graduation. You were always the calm and collected one, the cool ninja of Rin's dreams. She admired and respected you the most."
Ding… ding…
Obito swings his kunais and performs a roundhouse kick.
Bang…
Kakashi blocks the kick with his arm.
Swish…
Obito punches Kakashi in the guts with his other hand
Guffaw…
Kakashi spews out a mouthful of blood and drops his kunai.
HAAH…
Before Obito could land another blow, Kakashi grabs Obito's head with his other hand and slams his forehead into Obito's head.
Bang…
Blood flows out from Obito's forehead and covers his left eye.
Huff… Huff…
Both of them separate from each other. Kakashi wipes the blood from his mouth while Obito glares at Kakashi, ready for another round of battle.
Chirp… Chii…
"Chidori: Raikiri,"
Kakashi activates his lightning blade and dashes towards Obito. He aims the lightning blade towards Obito's head, ready to reap his life.
"Do it Kakashi! Just like you did it with Rin." Obito calmly stares into Kakashi's eyes, unaffected by the incoming lightning blade heading towards his way.
Swoosh…
Kakashi's hand pauses right before Obito's head, his lightning blade an inch away from Obito's head.
"So, there is still doubt in your heart, Kakashi. You've had several chances to get rid of me and yet you still hesitate to this instant."
Obito notices the hesitation in Kakashi's eyes as sweat trickles down his forehead.
"It's pathetic that you feel compassion towards an enemy in the midst of the battle. Is the guilt? Are you feeling remorse over the fact that you couldn't protect Rin and keep your promise to me? Or are you hoping that I will have a change of heart and stop?"
"Obito… let's stop this already. We were comrades once, you, Rin, and I. You can still go back to the person you once used to be."
Haha… Pfft… Hahaha…
Obito burst out in a fit of hysterical laughter.
"Presumptuous! The guilt you feel towards me is really presumptuous. If you believe that I started this war simply over you and Rin… then to call you misdirected and a fool will be an understatement!"
Shiing…
Obito casts a Sharingan Genjutsu on Kakashi. Kakashi is temporarily struck by paralysis and unable to move his body.
Shua…
Obito stands up and allows Kakashi's lightning blade to pierce his heart.
Ah…
Kakashi breaks from Obito's genjutsu and stares at the latter with shock.
"I know everything!" Obito's cold-piercing glare drills into Kakashi's eyes.
"I know that Rin deliberately ran into your lightning blade. That she chose to die of her own violation. Back then, the Kirigakure kidnapped Rin and made it into a living human bomb by sealing the Three-tail in her body. You succeeded in rescuing Rin, but that was a part of the Kirigakure's plan. They even pretended to chase you to let you move to Konoha quicker."
"Obito, how did you…"
"Because I was there. I saw how Rin jumped in front of your Chidori meant for the enemy. How your Chidori pierced Rin's heart, and she succumbed to death in front of your eyes? Rin chose to sacrifice herself to protect Konoha from the rampage of the Three-tails. She chose to commit suicide, she didn't have a choice. She couldn't kill herself since her will was being held hostage. So, her only choice was to die by your hands. A death at the hands of the person she cherished and loved the most! But…"
Obito grits his teeth.
"No matter what, it won't change the fact that you are an imposter who couldn't protect Rin. To me, Rin was someone who wasn't supposed to die. She was my guiding light in this bleak world filled with darkness."
Obito clenches his fists as blood leaks from his mouth.
"Without her, there is no meaning for Obito to live in this world. So, Obito died the day Rin died. Instead, Tobi was born to exact vengeance for the dead Rin and Obito. And the target of my revenge is the system of shinobi, the village, and the shinobis themselves. What caused me to despair was this world itself. This fake counterfeit world!"
"Obito… you… I…"
"Look Kakashi, there is nothing in my heart. There is no feeling of pain and sorrow anymore. All that's left is my burning vengeance. And this hole in my heart is the proof of that."

Outside the Kamui dimension,
"Everyone, here it comes! Brace yourself!"
Ao and other sensor shinobis warn the Allied Shinobi force. The Ten-tail charges up the third wave of Cataclysm and releases another powerful blast of energy.
SHOOM…
The powerful pulse of destructive chakra travels across the land and covers a radius of ten kilometers within an instant. The blast radius continues to move forward and exceeds the radius. It rapidly approaches the barrier while annihilating everything along the path.
HAAH…
The members of the Allied Shinobi force exert all their efforts to power the barrier. The powerful shockwaves of the blast hit the barrier. The barrier trembles slightly but holds on. The shockwaves are followed by the energy blast. It rattles the surface of the barrier.
Cracks spread across the several hexagonal barrier units of the barrier. The shinobi steadily supplies their chakra to repair the barrier.
The cycle of destruction and construction lasts for five minutes. Finally, the chaotic surge of energy settles down. The barrier remains intact after withstanding the Third Wave.
GYAAH…
The Ten-tail releases another scream and opens its giant mouth. A massive petal-like protrusion slowly extends from its mouth.
"The Ten Tail… it's evolving further."
The members of the Hyuga clan report their findings to the Allied Shinobi force.
"No, it's reverting back to its original state!" Kurama shakes his head.
The massive petal-like protrusion opens up to reveal a gigantic flower.
Shoom…
Large amounts of red and blue chakra particles gather in the center of the massive flower.
"The Ten Tail is charging an attack. Everyone, get ready to defend yourself." The sensor shinobis in the headquarters notices the disturbance in the Ten-tail's chakra.
"What? So soon… wasn't the fourth wave supposed to happen after an hour?" Rasa enquires.
"No, it's not that. The Ten-tail is taking the initiative to attack. It's charging up another massive-tailed beast bomb to obliterate the barrier." Ao informs.
"This is bad news. Will the barrier hold against such an attack?" This news sends the shinobis on tenterhooks.

Chapter 586: 551. Obito’s Scheme
The red and blue-tailed beast chakra gathers in front of the massive flower-like protrusion. A massive swirl of nature energy also appears around the tailed beast bomb.
"That's…"
Naruto's and Jiraiya's expression turns ugly.
"It's adding the Nature energy to the tailed beast bomb." Both of them exclaim.
SHUA…
The tailed beast bomb instantly inflates to twice the size of the already massive Ten-tail. The humongous-tailed beast bomb bloats the sky and distorts the surrounding space.
Rumble… Rumble…
The weight of the tailed beast bomb sinks the Ten-tail further deeper into the ground. This tremendous surge of chakra creates a major tectonic shift.
"The continent, the landscape, it's changing!" Ao and the other sensor shinobis warn.
A massive crack appears on the ground and splits the entire continent into another sub-continent due to the movement of the tectonic plates.
"The Ten-tail's power changed the terrain." Onoki and others exclaim.
They recall a legend in their historic clan records. During the era before the Sage of the Six Paths, the entire landmass was one giant, collective supermassive continent. There was no moon in the sky.
After the battle between the Sage of the Six Paths and the beast, the land split into several continents and islands. The moon also came into existence because of that battle.
"So, those legends were true!" They stare at the humongous-tailed beast bomb in trepidation.
"Can Lady Kushina's barrier block this attack?" Doubts appear in their heart.
Even Kushina, who is silently monitoring the situation from the In-Yō HQ, is unsure of the prowess of her barrier.
"What if I fail?" Such a question appears in her mind.
"NO! I won't fail." Kushina shakes her head.
"I must trust myself!"
With these thoughts, she activates another failsafe in the barrier. Kushina makes a series of hand signs and slams her palm on the huge control formation in front of her.
The core control formation of the barrier is in front of him.
Shoom… Shoom…
The barrier transforms again.
"I will calculate the trajectory of the tailed beast bomb and focus most of the defensive power of the barrier at the point of contact. It will strengthen the barrier at that point.
On the battlefield, the massive barrier transforms. Numerous hexagonal barrier cells realign their positions and concentrate a large amount of chakra around them. The reserve of the chakra ores deplete rapidly. Kushina even instructs them to use almost eighty percent of their reserves for defense.
Madara and Black Zetsu glance at the situation from a high vantage point.
"Interesting!" Madara chuckles.
"The Ten-tail feels threatened by these shinobis. So, in a desperate attempt, it's trying to obliterate them with one last strike. Though, this will weaken its will even further." He turns towards Black Zetsu.
"What do you think? Can the Allied Shinobi forces withstand an attack that's on par with the force of wraith of the entire planet?"
Black Zetsu ponders for a while and shakes his head.
"According to logic, it shouldn't be possible. But these shinobis have surprised and proved us time and time again."
Hahaha…
Madara chuckles.
"You are right!"
Hmm…
Suddenly, Madara frowns and glances in a direction.
"This chakra?!" His eyes narrow slightly.
"It's really him!" A grin appears on Madara's face.
"So, even you are excited about our reunion, old friend!"
Whoosh…
Madara casts a last glance at the ten-tail and flickers in another direction.
"This war, it's becoming more and more fun." He grins.

SHOOM…
After charging up the Tailed Beast bomb to the maximum, the Ten-tail fires it. The recoil of the jutsu pushes its massive body back.
The giant-tailed beast bomb creates a gully along its trajectory. It crosses the gap of twenty kilometers within seconds and approaches the barrier.
HAAH…
Kushina and other members of the barrier team clap their hands and infuse their chakra to the extreme. The nerves and veins pop out of their body.
Blood leaks from the corner of their mouth, ears, nose, and eyes as they sustain a massive amount of chakra inflow.
This sudden surge of chakra further reinforces the barrier.
BANG…
The tailed beast bomb finally strikes the barrier. The instant the tailed beast contacts the barrier, a massive surge of energy and a cascade of chaotic chakra spreads in the surroundings.
The explosion intensifies exponentially, creating an inferno within the barrier. The temperature soars to millions of degrees, hotter than the heart of the sun. An intense burst of high-energy chakra burst spread outwards like an invisible tsunami.
BANG… BANG… BANG…
Several layers of the barrier shatter instantly. Most shinobis maintaining the barrier lose a lot of blood and pass out.
"REPLACEMENT!"
The captains monitoring the situation yell frantically. Other shinobis hurriedly take their position to maintain the barrier.
The cataclysmic release of energy manifested as a monstrous fireball tearing through layers and layers of the barrier. The shockwave races outward, shattering rocks and ground, and creating a colossal crater in its wake.
The barrier forcefully withstands the explosion and blots outwards to a frightening degree. The immense surge of energy seeks an outlet to escape.
Kushina also understands the severity of the situation. If this condition persists, then the barrier will shatter in no time.
"There must be an outlet for this energy to escape."
So, she decisively alters the barrier and opens a small gap on the top of the barrier. The surging chaotic energy of the explosion finally finds an outlet.
The blast shot skyward, forming a massive mushroom-shaped cloud as the superheated air and debris rushed upward. The cloud of energy seems to touch the heavens. It pierces through layers and layers of the atmosphere and shoots into the sky as a huge pillar.
After the explosion, a wave of destruction ripples outward from the epicenter. The shockwave travels for miles, leaving a trail of devastation. Cracks appear on the ground surrounding the barrier. The shinobis near the barrier topple and lose their balance.
The barrier that seems to defy the very fate is now barely withholding its integrity with only a few thin layers. Its initial hemispherical shape has morphed into an elliptical dome.
Several web-like cracks are spread across the surface of the barrier.
Bang… bang…
Several of the chakra nodes explode one after another from the tremendous flow of chakra. The light in the Fuinjutsu formations around the barrier slowly whittles down.
Bzzt… Bzzt…
A few fuinjutsu formation flickers and die down.
Sigh…
Kushina sighs and shakes her head.
"The barrier is damaged beyond repair. I am afraid I won't be able to reactivate it in the meantime."
"How's the situation inside the storm of nature energy?"
The shinobis frantically seek an answer.
As the dust settles, and the fiery storm subsides, a silent, deadly menace emerges. The massive body of Ten-tail is slowly withering and decaying. Its gigantic eye hung loosely from its forehead. Its limbs are suspended lifelessly and its flesh and skin decay slowly.
"It seems to have lost a lot of vitality in that explosion." Tsunade comments as she senses the waning vitality of Ten-tail.
"It's akin to a withered old man that is dying slowly." Sakumo remarks.
"It's the result of the recoil of its previous attack. Since we confined the entire force of the explosion within that barrier, the Ten-tail felt the full brunt of its own power. That explosion ravaged its body and now it's barely holding on. I might collapse anytime." Rasa comments.
"Serves it right!" Naruto snorts.
"Naruto, if the ten-tails die now, the other tailed beast will also die with it. It will take centuries for them to resurrect." Kurama remarks.
"That… I…" Suddenly, Naruto feels guilty.
"Naruto, don't feel guilty. I can hear the thoughts of my brothers and sisters and they are fine with their sacrifice." Kurama shakes his head.
"K-Kurama, is there a method to save them?" Naruto gulps his saliva.
Sigh…
Kurama shakes his head.

GAH…
Obito spits out a mouthful of blood. His body function deteriorates rapidly after losing his heart.
"Obito, you!" Kakashi's blood-stained hands tremble. He weakly falls to the ground as the trauma from the past resurfaces.
The innocent face of Rin appears in his vision.
"Thank you, Kakashi!"
Obito and Rin's faces overlap.
"Thank you for freeing me from his control!" Obito remarks.
Crack…
Suddenly, the sound of glass shattering echoes in the Kamui dimension. An invisible curse seal appears in the hole around Obito's heart. The curse seal fades after Obito's heart gets destroyed.
Bleurgh…
Obito spits out a mouthful of blood, but a smile appears on his face.
"My gamble paid off. The curse in my heart is gone. Now, I am no longer under anyone's control." He pulls out a black receiver rod from his chest.
The rod turns into dust fragments and disperses.
Obito's vision blurs and he slowly loses consciousness.
"It's about time!" Obito ignores Kakashi and exits the Kamui dimension.
Fwoosh…
He reappears on top of the dying Ten-tail.
"The Allied Shinobi Force didn't disappoint me. Now it will be easier for me to control the Ten-tail."
Swish… swish…
Obito makes a series of hand signs and slams his palm on top of its head.
