Chapter 584: 549. Heavenly Barrier of Fate Denial
"The metal chakra rods used for the communication and monitoring the battlefield have a secret function within them," Kushina reveals the truth.
"Hmm… The Uzumaki clan is really full of secrets, huh?" Onoki remarks.
"So, what's the plan? And what should we do to stop the rampage of the Ten-tail?" Onoki lends his ear.
"Previously, the members of the logistics and communication team buried the metal chakra rods with the special Fuinjutsu seal throughout the battlefield. There were four different fuinjutsu formations engraved on the metal rods. The first one is for amplifying the communication signal and the second one is for connecting them to the central communication hub in HQ. The third and the most crucial fuinjutsu formation is the chakra gathering formation. However, the fourth and the last hidden Fuinjutsu formation is a small barrier Fuinjutsu formation." Kushina explains.
"This small barrier Fuinjutsu formation is actually a part of a much bigger barrier Fuinjutsu formation. It's almost impossible to create such a large-scale Fuinjutsu formation that covers most of the continent. Since it requires channeling a massive amount of chakra. However,"
Kushina recalls the powerful barrier formation she saw at the Redaku. The scale of that ancient barrier formation is massive compared to her current barrier formation. The latter covers almost half of the planet. Studying that barrier formation for a while gave her some insights into the advanced Fuinjutsu techniques. Thus, she created her version of that barrier formation with Minato.
Even for them, it was a very ambitious project. Since the required amount of energy to sustain the barrier was so large that it was almost possible to supply it all with just the chakra ores. However, this is where Izuna's chakra and nature energy gathering seal comes into play. This seal can absorb enough energy from the surroundings to sustain the barrier.
And thus, Minato and Kushina discussed their ambitious failsafe plan. They designed a huge barrier formation with several small barrier formations acting as its nodes. Each of these small barriers has its own power source. Now, all she needs is to activate and connect them all together.
"Also, we don't have to worry about running out of chakra. The ten-tail is attracting the entirety of Shinobi's world's chakra and nature energy towards itself. It will also benefit the barrier."
"As expected of the Uzumaki clan!" A few elders of the Kirigakure shake their head and sighs. These elders also delved into the study of Fuinjutsu formations. However, compared to the Uzumaki clan, well there is no comparison at all.
"So, what's our role in the process?" Gaara asks the crucial question.
"I can remotely activate the barrier formation on each metal chakra rod from a distance. However, it requires manual interference to link them to each other. Now, I will send a few coordinates."
Kushina sends a few co-ordinates to the group.
"So, all you folks have to do is to link the barrier through these hand signs and maintain that state for as long as possible. It will place some burden on the body and chakra of the user. So, only shinobis with a fairly large reserve of chakra should take the position."
Kushina relays the necessary hand signs.
"Very well!"
The Kages discuss among themselves and pick up suitable candidates. Naruto also transfers some of the Nine-tail's chakra to strengthen them.
"It's here!"
A few sensor shinobis warn them.
"The Ten-tail is acting strange. The second wave of the Cataclysm is almost here!"

Almost immediately, another hemispherical sphere of energy escapes from the Ten-tail's body with it as the epicenter. The powerful wave of energy travels outwards and covers a radius of ten kilometers within just a few seconds. The chaotic energy pulse destroys everything within that radius. It expands the apocalyptic field of fire, water, lightning, and wind.
Whoosh… Whoosh…
The shinobi immediately flickers away from the position and arrives at a distance of twenty kilometers from the Ten-tail.
"We have to start before the Third wave arrives or else there won't be any metal chakra rods left to initiate the barrier," Kushina warns.
"How long will it take for the next wave to arrive?" Shikaku asks Ao and the other sensors in the HQ.
The sensor department who just repaired the Water Sensing Sphere glances at it and remarks.
"It will probably take another forty-five minutes before the next wave arrives. Since the next wave will be much more destructive than before, the Ten-tail requires time to harness the necessary chakra and nature energy. And the time for every subsequent wave will only increase further."
They give a conclusive answer after performing some calculations.
"Mm… that should be enough time for us to erect the barrier!" Kushina and other nods.
The Kages immediately rally the shinobis to occupy the co-ordinates sent by Kushina. The shinobis swiftly move to the position and make arrangements to kickstart the barrier.
Soon, a mega barrier formation spanning a circumference of over thirteen hundred kilometers takes shape. The barrier has over three hundred nodes and a shinobi occupies each of these nodes. Multiple small protection squad patrols the area in case of an ambush.
Onoki and other Kages survey the massive barrier formation from the sky.
"Unbelievable!" Onoki remarks, as he is lost for words.
Shua… Shua…
Several hexagonal units of barrier conjoin together to create a hemispherical barrier. This barrier also extends beneath the ground. The barrier contains the Ten-tail and the Cataclysm within it. The barrier even shrouds the sky and blocks the clouds.
The various hexagonal barrier units shimmer with numerous glows. The hundreds of thousands of Fuinjutsu runes operate in tandem. They continuously absorb the chakra and nature energy from the surroundings; weakening the influence of Ten-tail's Cataclysm by robbing a part of its energy to strengthen the barrier.
Kushina, who is the brain of the barrier, continuously monitors every node in search of flaws and deficiencies. She issues one command after another to fix the issues.
"The node number 579 requires an increase in the steady stream of chakra. "
"One of the metal chakra rods at node number 378 is failing. Replace it as soon as possible."
"The position of Heaven's Gate at node number 786 is slightly off. Please adjust it three meters to the right."

Ayaka also joins Kushina and helps her share her burden.
After half an hour of intense struggle, the barrier finally becomes functional. As soon as the barrier makes an appearance, the effect of the Cataclysm decreases by almost one-third.
"It's working!"
The Sensor shinobis at HQ are the first to notice this phenomenon. They immediately inform the rest of their compatriots.
Several shinobis on the battlefield heave a sigh of relief since there is no longer any imminent threat to their life.
Only the expression of Kages, commander, and vice-commander is slightly ugly.
"We have no choice but to defend." A clench his fists.
"I hope the barrier is strong enough to withstand the next wave and the subsequent waves." Raasa and Gaara also grimly stare at the barrier.
"We have trust in Minato and Kushina's judgment!" Tsunade and Mei speak resolutely.
"What's the name of this barrier?" Onoki asks.
"I have yet to name this barrier." Kushina shakes her head.
"Then what about the 'Allied Shinobi Force Resolve Barrier'?" A Konoha shinobi proposes.
"That's so plain! What about the 'Rock-Solid Defense Barrier'?" Another Iwagakure shinobi proposes.
"No, it should be 'The Absolute Ultimate Shield'." A Sunagakure shinobi disagrees.
"That's such a cliché name. This barrier should be called "Cataclysm Containment Bubble'." A Kirigakure shinobi proposes.
"That's such a simple name. This barrier should have a majestic name like, "Heavenly Punishment Containment Barrier'." A Kumogakure shinobi adds.
The Kages and commanders cringe as their shinobis fight amongst each other to name the barrier. They have shed all sense of cordiality after the threat to their life is over.
Sigh…
The Kages shake their head and ask Kushina.
"Since you are the creator of this barrier, then you should be the person to name this barrier."
Hmm…
Kushina turns to Ayaka and both of them wrack their brain for a name. They think hard and finally settle on a name.
"We will call this barrier…"

Chapter 585: 550. Obito’s Betrayal
At some distance from the barrier,
Madara and Black Zetsu glance at the battlefield from the top of a mountain.
"Did you expect Obito to betray you?" Black Zetsu asks Madara.
"Obito's betrayal wasn't surprising. Even back then, when he was a kid, he never trusted me and the same goes for me. I didn't entrust him with all of my secrets. Also, between us, it was always a relationship of use and being used. And Obito knows it very well." Madara laughs and shakes his head.
"I carefully laid out my master plan to remove all obstacles along my way such as the Senju clan, the Uzumaki clan, the Uchiha clan, and the Hyuga clan, and yet all of them persist to the end. Not only that, the strength of the Uchiha clan and even the Hyuga clan improved to another degree."
"Just what went wrong with my planning?" Madara attempts to recall the flaw in his plan.
Before his natural death, his plan was smooth sailing with no obstacles and yet when he was finally resurrected, everything was in a mess.
"However, what was unexpected was the resistance of the Allied Shinobi force!" Madara's expression turns serious.
He scrutinizes the barrier laid down by the Allied Shinobi Force.
"This barrier… I am afraid it's the strongest barrier I have ever seen in the Shinobi History. This strength of this barrier has far surpassed anything in the shinobi world." Madara analyzes the barrier with his Rinnegan.
"I am afraid it will be quite difficult for Ten-tail to break this barrier in its current state." Madara clicks his tongue.
"Still, it's not like it's not amendable."
"So, how do you plan to deal with them? Search for the weakness of the barrier and attack it!" Black Zetsu asks him.
"Hahaha… why should we do the work when someone else will do it for us?" Madara breaks out in laughter.
Madara glances at the raging Ten-tail within the barrier.
"I have trust in Obito's ambition. I am sure he won't disappoint me." Madara chuckles.
"There is going to be a fun show to watch."

Obito and Kakashi appear within the Kamui dimension.
HAAH…
Both of them trade blows and block each other's kicks.
Swish… swish… swish…
The duo exchanges a series of blows and finally separates when they are evenly matched in the Taijutsu battle.
"Just like the old time, Kakashi!" Obito grins as he stares at Kakashi.
"Back then, you were the village prodigy of Konoha, a genius, and I was a sore loser of the academy. We regularly fought against each other in the academy and I never won a single spar against you."
Clang… clang…
The duo takes out their kunais and shurikens and engages in another battle.
"And this persisted even after our graduation. You were always the calm and collected one, the cool ninja of Rin's dreams. She admired and respected you the most."
Ding… ding…
Obito swings his kunais and performs a roundhouse kick.
Bang…
Kakashi blocks the kick with his arm.
Swish…
Obito punches Kakashi in the guts with his other hand
Guffaw…
Kakashi spews out a mouthful of blood and drops his kunai.
HAAH…
Before Obito could land another blow, Kakashi grabs Obito's head with his other hand and slams his forehead into Obito's head.
Bang…
Blood flows out from Obito's forehead and covers his left eye.
Huff… Huff…
Both of them separate from each other. Kakashi wipes the blood from his mouth while Obito glares at Kakashi, ready for another round of battle.
Chirp… Chii…
"Chidori: Raikiri,"
Kakashi activates his lightning blade and dashes towards Obito. He aims the lightning blade towards Obito's head, ready to reap his life.
"Do it Kakashi! Just like you did it with Rin." Obito calmly stares into Kakashi's eyes, unaffected by the incoming lightning blade heading towards his way.
Swoosh…
Kakashi's hand pauses right before Obito's head, his lightning blade an inch away from Obito's head.
"So, there is still doubt in your heart, Kakashi. You've had several chances to get rid of me and yet you still hesitate to this instant."
Obito notices the hesitation in Kakashi's eyes as sweat trickles down his forehead.
"It's pathetic that you feel compassion towards an enemy in the midst of the battle. Is the guilt? Are you feeling remorse over the fact that you couldn't protect Rin and keep your promise to me? Or are you hoping that I will have a change of heart and stop?"
"Obito… let's stop this already. We were comrades once, you, Rin, and I. You can still go back to the person you once used to be."
Haha… Pfft… Hahaha…
Obito burst out in a fit of hysterical laughter.
"Presumptuous! The guilt you feel towards me is really presumptuous. If you believe that I started this war simply over you and Rin… then to call you misdirected and a fool will be an understatement!"
Shiing…
Obito casts a Sharingan Genjutsu on Kakashi. Kakashi is temporarily struck by paralysis and unable to move his body.
Shua…
Obito stands up and allows Kakashi's lightning blade to pierce his heart.
Ah…
Kakashi breaks from Obito's genjutsu and stares at the latter with shock.
"I know everything!" Obito's cold-piercing glare drills into Kakashi's eyes.
"I know that Rin deliberately ran into your lightning blade. That she chose to die of her own violation. Back then, the Kirigakure kidnapped Rin and made it into a living human bomb by sealing the Three-tail in her body. You succeeded in rescuing Rin, but that was a part of the Kirigakure's plan. They even pretended to chase you to let you move to Konoha quicker."
"Obito, how did you…"
"Because I was there. I saw how Rin jumped in front of your Chidori meant for the enemy. How your Chidori pierced Rin's heart, and she succumbed to death in front of your eyes? Rin chose to sacrifice herself to protect Konoha from the rampage of the Three-tails. She chose to commit suicide, she didn't have a choice. She couldn't kill herself since her will was being held hostage. So, her only choice was to die by your hands. A death at the hands of the person she cherished and loved the most! But…"
Obito grits his teeth.
"No matter what, it won't change the fact that you are an imposter who couldn't protect Rin. To me, Rin was someone who wasn't supposed to die. She was my guiding light in this bleak world filled with darkness."
Obito clenches his fists as blood leaks from his mouth.
"Without her, there is no meaning for Obito to live in this world. So, Obito died the day Rin died. Instead, Tobi was born to exact vengeance for the dead Rin and Obito. And the target of my revenge is the system of shinobi, the village, and the shinobis themselves. What caused me to despair was this world itself. This fake counterfeit world!"
"Obito… you… I…"
"Look Kakashi, there is nothing in my heart. There is no feeling of pain and sorrow anymore. All that's left is my burning vengeance. And this hole in my heart is the proof of that."

Outside the Kamui dimension,
"Everyone, here it comes! Brace yourself!"
Ao and other sensor shinobis warn the Allied Shinobi force. The Ten-tail charges up the third wave of Cataclysm and releases another powerful blast of energy.

The powerful pulse of destructive chakra travels across the land and covers a radius of ten kilometers within an instant. The blast radius continues to move forward and exceeds the radius. It rapidly approaches the barrier while annihilating everything along the path.
HAAH…
The members of the Allied Shinobi force exert all their efforts to power the barrier. The powerful shockwaves of the blast hit the barrier. The barrier trembles slightly but holds on. The shockwaves are followed by the energy blast. It rattles the surface of the barrier.
Cracks spread across the several hexagonal barrier units of the barrier. The shinobi steadily supplies their chakra to repair the barrier.
The cycle of destruction and construction lasts for five minutes. Finally, the chaotic surge of energy settles down. The barrier remains intact after withstanding the Third Wave.
GYAAH…
The Ten-tail releases another scream and opens its giant mouth. A massive petal-like protrusion slowly extends from its mouth.
"The Ten Tail… it's evolving further."
The members of the Hyuga clan report their findings to the Allied Shinobi force.
"No, it's reverting back to its original state!" Kurama shakes his head.
The massive petal-like protrusion opens up to reveal a gigantic flower.
Shoom…
Large amounts of red and blue chakra particles gather in the center of the massive flower.
"The Ten Tail is charging an attack. Everyone, get ready to defend yourself." The sensor shinobis in the headquarters notices the disturbance in the Ten-tail's chakra.
"What? So soon… wasn't the fourth wave supposed to happen after an hour?" Rasa enquires.
"No, it's not that. The Ten-tail is taking the initiative to attack. It's charging up another massive-tailed beast bomb to obliterate the barrier." Ao informs.
"This is bad news. Will the barrier hold against such an attack?" This news sends the shinobis on tenterhooks.
