[Carla's Pov]
"Well, due to the collapsed building, most of the evidences were destroyed, especially those on the computers. The only thing we could salvage was this piece of paper" Director Adams informed as Chris and I sat down opposite him.
Chris looked away, not wanting to see any accusing looks.
"Let me take a look at the paper" I said calmly as he handed me the piece of paper.
I checked the plain paper, there was nothing special about it and it just had some scribbles on it, the mastermind probably jotted down something just to remember it, not as an actual plan.
'He didn't really bother to write it in codes, he must have thought that no one would see it. I can easily deciper this' I thought smiling as I looked at the scribbles on it.
It read;
RA- Put half Dup gad in.
"What do you think it means, Detective Carla?" Director Adams asked, looking at my smile.
"It said; RA- Put half of the Duplicated Gadgets in. That one is easy enough to decipher since the gadgets were stolen just a while ago, 'RA' must be the location where he hid the duplicated gadgets" I said smiling as a understanding glint lit up in Director Adams' eyes.
"Ok, but what do you think RA is?" He asked as Chris finally turned to look at us with an interested gaze.
"RA is probably the initial of the location and if my memory serves me right, Rainfall Academy is an abadoned building not that far from this place. The location is probably the abandoned Rainfall Academy since it is the perfect place to hide anything, people don't really visit that building and it has enough hiding place" I said smiling as I slid the paper into my pocket.
"I will send some agents there now to retrieve the gadgets" Director Adams said as he picked up his phone to inform them.
"Can I tag along with them?" I asked with a playful smile as he nodded.
"Well Chris, maybe you can redeem yourself in this endeavour?" I asked calmly as I faced him.
"Yeah, maybe I could. I am surprised though that you could get all that from some scribbles" He said with an unreadable expression in his eyes.
'Not unreadable, I have seen that expression somewhere before'
"I would have gotten a lot more if you didn't make the building collapse" I said with a fake smile as he looked away again.
"You still managed to get that though so I guess destroying the building didn't stop you" He said looking back at me with a little smile as I smiled genuinely.
"Things like that can't stop me, especially since he directly involved me in his scheme" I said smiling as I stood up.
"They are ready, do you want to join them now?" Adams asked as I nodded.
"Now if you will excuse me, I have somewhere to go to" I said tipping my hat before opening the door to leave.
Chris got up too and followed me out as we went to the agents waiting to leave.
"Agent Chris, a pleasure to have you with us on this mission" One of the agents said, smiling.
Chris nodded and the other agents turned their attention to me.
"You must be the detective Director Adams talked about. I am agent Shawn, ranking 3rd on the top agent list" A guy said, stretching out his hand.
We shook hands and I smiled looking at the agents set to raid Rainfall Academy.
"Shall we get going then?" I asked as they nodded.
We entered 5 different cars and made our way towards Rainfall Academy. Chris, Shawn, and I were in the same car though.
"If I may ask, why did you decide to join us, Detective Carla?" Agent Shawn asked politely as he smiled.
"I just wanted to see if my deduction is correct, that's all" I replied calmly as I returned the smile.
He nodded in acknowledgment while Chris had his eyes closed, probably thinking of something.
'I wonder what's on his mind. He almost seems unreadable right now but I have a feeling it has something to do with this mission'
We reached the abandoned building and Shawn got down from the car.
"Proceed with caution and according to the plan. We don't know if anyone is inside after all" Agent Shawn said into his mouth piece as the some agents went in while some surrounded the building.
"Do you want to enter the building?" Shawn asked looking at me after Chris had got down.
"Of course, especially with Chris being there. I wouldn't want him to make another building collapse, I have to watch out for him" I said teasingly as Chris sighed.
"It only happened once, you don't have to keep repeating it" Chris said, rubbing his face.
"Yeah, but I like teasing you about that for some reason" I said with a playful smile as I got down from the car.
Chris just scowled and didn't bother to talk again as we entered the building.
Chris and Shawn searched the rooms cautiously as I whistled a sweet tone, my hands in my pocket.
"Why are you so careless, aren't you usually more careful?" Chris asked, looking at me with a confused expression.
"Because I don't need to be careful. Since that building collapsed, the mastermind will either have evacuated all devices from the locations written in that building or wouldn't bother to come here just to be safe. If you noticed, there is no sign of anyone around and all traps has been disabled" I said, pointing to somethings that were off in the room.
"All traps must have been disabled in any location that were kept in that building. His men are probably moving around the locations to get the devices before any agents get there, if we are lucky, the devices might still be here, if not, well... you know what happens" I said shrugging my shoulders at their dumbstruck looks.
"Won't you get back to business?" I asked when I noticed they weren't moving and still looking at me.
They snapped out of their trance and started looking for the devices, a lot faster this time.
We entered the last room and they sighed in disappointment when they didn't see any gadget.
"Did anyone find any gadget?" Shawn asked, talking into the mouth piece.
"They didn't find anything, it was a dead end. He must have taken the gadgets before we came" Shawn said, looking at us with a downcast expression.
"Hold your horses, you shouldn't give up that fast" I said smiling as I moved towards an area in the room.
"After all, not everything is in plain sight" I said playfully as I pushed a brick in the wall which opened an hidden compartment revealing the duplicated gadgets.
