Chapter 35: Strike a Deal With the Devil (1)

Just where did she go wrong? Tang Moyu wondered.

Ever since she was a child, she was told that she would be the next 'Madam Feng' and there was no other girl who could compete for her position, nor was there any other girl as beautiful and smart as she was.

'No matter what, Moyu. There's no need for you to worry. Regardless, the one who'll become the next 'Madam Feng' is you.' Her mother had assured her.

But what had happened after that?

Because a white lotus appeared out of nowhere and schemed against her, her engagement with Feng Tianhua was called off and he even married that woman. Her reputation was ruined and she left the country, which was no different to being sent to wasteland by those people she thought cared for her.

How foolish she was to believe back then. Even if she was a little ill-mannered and brazen at that time, at least she was a person who carried herself with dignity like a noble lady.

Those pigs were blinded by greed and they would always seek for more. Who cares for what she wants? They only summoned her back to save their pitiful asses. If only they didn't betray her five years ago, then they wouldn't need to face the consequences of their actions.

She didn't want to go through the trouble of getting revenge and placing her children in the risk of danger, but if they didn't dare to offend her, she wouldn't have retaliated viciously.

"So what do you think, Miss Tang?" Qin Jiran's voice brought her back to reality.

Tang Moyu wasn't sure why this man was indirectly helping her when it was obvious that he was up to no good. She once heard from Li Meili that some authors had a weird, twisted mind that allowed them to weave words and scenes that could entrap their readers.

"What do I think?" She found his question bemusing.

She couldn't remember the last time someone asked for her opinion on something. Most people would try to stay out of her way and let her do whatever she pleased because they trust her judgement.

No. Tang Moyu corrected herself. They were just expecting to rip the rewards of her hard work. However this time, she will not step away. It would be too much responsibility on her part, but she mustn't. This time, she had a reason to fight back.

"What are the conditions? I'm sure it wouldn't be as simple as that?" She cocked an eyebrow at him.

Qin Jiran's identity was still a mystery to her. His identity couldn't be as simple as an author who hides behind his fame. For him to know the situation the Tang Enterprise was in, he must have connections within the business circle in Shenzhen.

This could only mean that Qin Jiran knew more about her than she knew about him. Her instincts were telling her he wasn't a simple man who wrote books for a living. From his looks, down to his mannerism, there wasn't a thing that indicates he was from a humble family.

Feng Tianyi looked at her expectantly. A confident grin spreading on his lips.

Was he like other men she'd met before, who only sought her for her abilities? She suddenly wondered if meeting him through her children was just a mere coincidence. This wasn't the first time someone attempted to use her little buns to approach her anyway.

Tang Moyu wasn't one to believe in that. Coincidences were just a sloppy reasoning for an intricate scheme.

"Maybe you give me something as a collateral then, until you earn back the money I've lost." Feng Tianyi replied, trying to gauge the empress's reaction, which revealed nothing. He'd already expected that she would put her guards up the moment he mentioned his proposition.

"A collateral, huh." Tang Moyu cupped her chin and looked outside, watching the continued downpour of the heavy rain.

Somehow, she felt like she was striking a deal with a devil. She had no idea who Qin Jiran was except that he was one of the most popular authors these days. As for the collateral, she didn't have anything right now that held value except the estate she recently bought at Peach Blossom Garden.

"I can give you the deed of my house as a collateral. Give me a week so we can vacate the area." She offered.

"Hmm… you are offering me your house, then where are you planning to move with your children?" Feng Tianyi looked down at his empty cup, secretly amused at how much time had already passed without him noticing.

"That's a matter you don't need to worry about, Mr. Qin." Tang Moyu said decisively. She heard Qin Jiran let out a low chuckle and wondered what he was thinking at that moment.

"Of course, I would be worried. I don't want to cause inconvenience to your children," he said like it was his right to be worried for the children. It sounded weird to her because they weren't his to begin with.

"How about I move to your place? I've been thinking of getting a break from my mundane city life somewhere. I heard Peach Blossom Garden is a good place that offers privacy and security for me to recuperate."

Tang Moyu's lips pressed into a thin line while she tried to read Qin Jiran's intention. Recuperate, he said but it was more likely to keep an eye on her. She wasn't sure if this was a good idea or not, but she had to admit, keeping Qin Jiran beside her was the easiest way to find out what he truly wanted from this deal.

"Fine. I'll ask Auntie Lu to prepare the guest house next to the main house where you can stay. As for the other conditions and clauses, give me a day or two to think about it."

Since she had no idea who really this man was, Tang Moyu decided to keep him under surveillance. She contemplated if she should run a background check on him, but a part of her knew that she wasn't ready to hear the truth yet.

"Great. Then I'll call my lawyer to draft the contract for us." Feng Tianyi replied, pleased with the way things were turning out.

Chapter 36: Strike a Deal With the Devil (2)

The next morning, after Tang Moyu and her children left his apartment, Feng Tianyi waited for Song Fengyan and his right hand man and lawyer, He Lianchen. The morning sun failed to make He Lianchen's face a little warmer as his piercing gaze landed on Feng Tianyi.

Thin wisps of steam rose from his coffee mug as he leaned in his seat, with one hand supporting his chin. The man had been working with Feng Tianyi for a long time and was the one who'd been managing his finances.

The posture he had was stiff and rigid, his handsome face and curious brown eyes revealed his business related prowess.

"Tang Moyu of all people, Tianyi. Are you fucking out of your mind?" He glared at the man sitting across him.

Feng Tianyi shrugged and continued to read the draft of the contract on his tablet while Song Fengyan laughed at He Lianchen's annoyed reaction. He couldn't really blame him for Feng Tianyi's outrageousness.

"Relax, Lianchen. Why are you so nervous? It's not like Miss Tang can take advantage of us, when in fact, she is in disadvantage." He commented.

He Lianchen scoffed and leaned back in his seat as he adjusted his black suit jacket, which was custom made for him because of his wide shoulders and narrow waist that most of the clothing lines would not offer.

"And why are you okay with it? The mere fact that she's the fallen empress makes this contract a big deal." He responded.

Feng Tianyi snorted.

"Because Fengyan knows who signs the paycheck here. Why would he try to antagonize me?"

"Traitor." He Lianchen muttered to himself while Song Fengyan burst out laughing.

"I'm not sure why you've taken an interest in Tang Moyu, but I presume you're going to handle the takeover of Feng Conglomerate personally?" He Lianchen asked.

"Yeah, I'll see to it that my dear little brother will fall from his high horse." Feng Tianyi said as if he could already taste the victory, the completion of his revenge against his brother Feng Tianhua, and the mistress who broke his family.

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. If Tang Moyu was willing, he would make sure he returned the pain and suffering she endured over the years a thousand fold back to Feng Tianhua and Xing Yiyue. He wanted them to suffer as much as his family had.

He placed his tablet on top of the table with his fingers tapping on it lightly.

"Whether or not Tang Moyu is on my side, I'll get back what's rightfully mine."

He Lianchen sipped his coffee and eyed Feng Tianyi. "So why Tang Moyu?"

"Why not? Given how my brother treated her badly before, I wouldn't be surprised if he targeted her again."

He Lianchen bit his inner cheek, stopping himself from commenting. He didn't believe even one bit of Feng Tianyi's reasoning. Both Feng brothers were egotistical jerks and with Feng Tianyi luring Tang Moyu to his side without her knowing, it was most likely he intended to use her to hurt Feng Tianhua's ego.

Seeing He Lianchen's eyes narrowing at him, Feng Tianyi gave him a lazy smile as he leaned back on his wheelchair and steepled his fingers.

"You worry too much, I can handle Tang Moyu," he assured him. Did they really think Tang Moyu could get an upper hand against him?

If he was a man that could roll his eyes, He Lianchen probably would've done it this time.

"As long as you don't want to get on her bed, I'm fine with it."

It was Feng Tianyi's turn to laugh this time. Ridiculous. He thought. There's no reason for him to seduce the fallen empress, considering that he wouldn't dare to do anything that could hurt her little buns.

"What?" He Lianchen raised a brow at him. "If you still aren't aware, Tang Moyu is bad news."

What's worse than a woman who wasn't aware of her infectious and sinful charisma on men? She was a forbidden fruit men desired, but was unattainable. They could only look and admire her from a far while she was oblivious to being the subject of their sexual fantasies.

Didn't Feng Tianhua know how other men envied him for having Tang Moyu on his side? How they wished they were the ones in his position; to dominate and conquer this ravishing beauty?

Since her return, Tang Moyu has been the talk of the town. Women talked behind her back while men vied for her attention.

He Lianchen shook his head and stood up. There was still more work to be done today. Several millions were involved in this deal with the devil. He wondered if the fallen empress would be able to fulfill her part of the deal.

"Don't let your attraction cloud your judgement. I'm not sure why you entered this deal with the empress, but you don't have to drag her into your fight with Tianhua."

"I know what I'm doing," Feng Tianyi countered. Of course he understood that a woman like Tang Moyu can cause a downfall of many men, but he was confident that he would not be one of them. However, he did think he should be guarded around Tang Moyu.

"Okay. If you say so." And just like that, He Lianchen dropped the topic and placed his empty cup in the sink. "Call me if she wants any revisions on it."

"I doubt she would complain. We've already discussed it."

Shaking his head, He Lianchen laughed at him. By the way Song Fengyan shared that knowing look with him, he wasn't surprised if Feng Tianyi hadn't noticed that the fallen empress had already had him wrapped around her finger.
