If Tang Moyu knew that taking the twins home without letting them bid goodbye to Qin Jiran would lead to this situation, she should've woken them up before leaving Qin Jiran's place. However, a part of her also knew that the two would also throw a fit right then and would make it hard for her to take them home.
She was wondering if their interest in Qin Jiran was because of the lack of a father figure in their lives, but she quickly disregarded that thought.
The little buns had never asked her about their father. She was curious as to why they weren't asking her, but was also relieved that they hadn't because truth to be told, Tang Moyu also has no idea how to explain their conception.
"Auntie Lu, please dress the twins while I go get my car keys," she told the twins' nanny before telling Little Star to cease her crying.
The two little buns stopped crying simultaneously upon hearing her words. Mommy never lied to them, so they were glad they'd get to see Uncle Ji again.
Sighing to herself, Tang Moyu admitted to herself that she was truly defeated when it came to her children's wishes.
Meanwhile at North Star Complex…
Feng Tianyi finished his evening routine by washing the dishes, taking a bath, and finishing his laundry. He was ready to retire for the night but he suddenly felt that his home was empty and lonely after Tang Moyu left with the two little buns.
By this time he should be writing his novel, but remembering how his laptop basically ended up dead after the spill at the cafe, Feng Tianyi had nothing to do but to sleep early.
For a while, he wondered if he was starting to miss the company of other people after his long isolation since his accident. He shook his head and scoffed to himself.
Impossible. No one would like his company. It was just a mistake that the two little buns took a liking to him. There was nothing special about it and soon enough they would forget the uncle who helped them at the cafe.
Anyway, he was already used to living alone so it wasn't new for him.
The doorbell rang again, snapping him out of his thoughts.
Who was visiting him at this time?
Thankfully he was already dressed to sleep and hadn't shifted from his wheelchair to his bed yet. He wheeled his wheelchair outside his room, down the hallway to the front door. He was stunned as he pulled the door open.
Tang Moyu was standing outside his door again with Xiao Bao and Little Star on each of her arms.
Feng Tianyi recovered from his shock and looked at the children.
"Miss Tang, what brings you here? Something the matter?" He asked.
He saw her lips pressed on a thin line before placing her children on the ground.
"Uncle Ji!" Little Star ran towards him, both of her arms reaching for him.
Feng Tianyi was shocked to see her dressed in a yellow onesie as Pikachu while Xiao Bao was dressed in blue as Squirtle. They sure did look adorable in these onesies.
This… he wasn't sure what was happening. He racked his brain trying to figure out why they were here again.
Why were they back with their mother?
Little Star beamed a smile on him as she held unto his arm.
"Uncle Ji, can we stay with you?" She asked.
Xiao Bao followed his sister and shook Feng Tianyi's other arm, trying to get his attention.
"Uncle, since you don't want to come home with us. Should we have a sleepover here?"
Feng Tianyi subconsciously looked at the empress's face and saw that she was clearly not happy with her children's actions. He knew that she didn't trust him but she also couldn't easily deny her children's wishes.
"I apologize for troubling you again, Mr. Qin. It is just Little Star insisted on seeing you and wouldn't stop crying until I agreed to bring them here. Is it alright to disturb you for a night? She just recovered from her illness and I don't want to see her sick anytime soon because of stress. You see, my Little Star is quite a sickly child, so I hope you wouldn't think I'm too presumptuous for asking a favor tonight."
Tang Moyu couldn't remember saying so many words at one time to a man. She usually kept it short and uninterested, not giving them a chance to get familiar with her.
"It's no trouble at all, Miss Tang. Please come in," Feng Tianyi responded. He also wasn't sure what made him agree to Tang Moyu's request.
Tang Moyu entered, adjusting the laptop bag over her shoulder and let Feng Tianyi close the door while the children ran towards the main bedroom where the man slept. She shook her head and pinched the space between her brows as she wondered why she let her children get the best of her.
"I'm really sorry for this, Mr. Qin…" she apologized again. Maybe she should make a plan on how to stop this from happening again or else her little buns would get used to it every time.
"No worries, Miss Tang. You can take the guest room at the end of the hallway next to my room." Feng Tianyi told her before they both walked towards his bedroom to see what the children were up to.
As they expected the two little buns had already conquered the massive bed in Feng Tianyi's room. Tang Moyu pinched the space between her brows and wondered why these two ended up like this. While she and the nannies tried to raise them with a few rules, her two little buns still manage to outwit them.
Tang Moyu was dumbstruck. She didn't know what to tell Feng Tianyi at that moment.
"Mr. Qin… I'm really sorry about this."
Feng Tianyi could clearly see the conflicted emotions on her face. She must be feeling really uncomfortable right now, asking a stranger for a favor. If Little Star hadn't had an illness before, he'd surely bet that this woman wouldn't even want to step into his place.
It was already shocking for him to meet her under such circumstances and he hadn't expected that she was really with a child before her exile. Not only one, but two little cute buns.
Was this really the same empress that people had been wary of? He wondered. He laughed awkwardly before pointing at the door beside his room. Neither of them had expected that the Tangs would spend a night here. Thankfully, Tang Moyu had only allowed this for a night.
"You can take the guest room, Miss Tang. I'm also not sure why your children insist on taking care of me, but I won't harm or exploit them," he assured her.
Tang Moyu checked the time on her watch and sighed dejectedly.
"It's already past their bedtime. I'll be troubling you to put the twins to bed," she told him before excusing herself to enter the other room.
Thus, Feng Tianyi had no choice but to enter his own room and tell the twins to calm down. However, it took him some time before the twins tired themselves out and slept peacefully next to him.
Meanwhile, in the guest room, the bed was untouched as Tang Moyu set her laptop on the desk and resumed her work. Sleep evaded her tonight as she wondered how her naughty children were faring next door.
By the time Feng Tianyi woke up the next day, the twins beside him were still deep in their slumber. He gently removed their arms around his torso and dragged himself out of bed, taking his cane to support his body weight before slumping awkwardly on his wheelchair.
He then found Tang Moyu sitting on his couch, waiting for him to wake up. The sky outside was still dark and the sun had yet to rise.
"Good morning, Mr. Qin," Tang Moyu stood up and regarded him politely. It seemed like she'd been up for a while and had been waiting for him to come out.
"Good morning, Miss Tang. Didn't you sleep well last night? You are quite early today." Feng Tianyi replied as he led her to the kitchen to brew coffee for both of them.
"I have some urgent business to attend to today and would like to ask if I can leave my children here. I plan to call their nanny to accompany and help you look after them. I will personally fetch them tonight." She didn't beat around the bush and said her piece.
Feng Tianyi was utterly speechless at her request but couldn't find it in himself to decline her. What kind of mother was she to leave her children to a stranger? Wasn't she afraid that he would have ulterior motives towards the twins?
However, the way she looked at him rendered him speechless.
"As you wish," he finally replied, "but aren't you going to say goodbye to them before leaving?"
He saw that the coldness in her eyes gradually diminished upon mentioning the twins. Feng Tianyi then knew that she was doing this for their sake, even if she wasn't comfortable with it.
"I was hoping…" Tang Moyu stuttered, which was so out of character, "I was hoping I could see them before I leave."
Ah, so that was why she waited for him earlier.
Feng Tianyi smiled before nodding at her.
"Of course you can, Miss Tang. I don't mind at all."
They went back to the main bedroom and Tang Moyu silently crept towards her children, kissing their foreheads lovingly.
"Mommy will go now. You must behave and shouldn't trouble your Uncle Ji while Mommy is away. " She whispered to them. Feng Tianyi witnessed the scene from the doorway.
He had never imagined that the infamous fallen empress could be this soft and loving, considering she was cold and ruthless within the business circle. Was this the same empress who made him helpless against his half brother?
Tang Moyu silently closed the door behind her and thanked Feng Tianyi once they were in the hallway.
"It's no problem, Miss Tang. I'm glad I'm able to help," Feng Tianyi assured her.
It was then that Tang Moyu remembered the incident that took place at the cafe yesterday. The thought of having Little Star getting injured instantly darkened her eyes with murderous intent. That woman was lucky she wasn't there to witness the scene or she would've destroyed her beyond recognition.
"Mr. Qin, I was informed that your belongings were destroyed during yesterday's incident. Please let me replace it." She told Feng Tianyi as she slipped her arms into her black coat and adjusted her collar.
At that moment, Feng Tianyi thought that he was like a wife who was watching her husband about to leave for work. Realizing what had crossed his mind, he berated himself. What the hell was he thinking about?
Noticing the weird look on the man's face, Tang Moyu raised a brow at him.
Feng Tianyi coughed and cleared his throat, suppressing the blush that was threatening to appear on his face.
"It's nobody's fault, Miss Tang. There's no need to replace it. Although I must admit that this put me at a disadvantage because I lost the manuscript for my latest book that's due in a few weeks."
Tang Moyu frowned. If it was just a material possession, she could easily compensate Qin Jiran for the trouble her twins brought to him, but this… Was there any other way for her to help him?
