"But still, you don't have any proof to say all of them are spies," Zhong said with a frown.
Ambai gave him the stink eyes. "What else does it means? I can't come to any other conclusion other than this. I've been thinking long and hard," she whined.
"Well, let's search for more information. Have you tried the library," He whispered.
"Yes, I've checked every book there. Trust me, I had too man sleepless nights because of that,"
"Hmm, there might be some new info here," he said.
He went to the nearby bookshelf and started flipping through each one of them.
"I'm pretty sure they are spies." She whispered.
"I'm pretty sure they are not, and keep quiet, your father is in the secret chamber he might hear us," he whispered, busy flipping though a thick book.
"Hump, fine," she whispered.
She started flipping through all the reports. Another report was hidden in between a book.
"Hey look at this," she beckoned him close.
The record read, 'Report of soup poisoning.'
"Soup poisoning? It's the report of the five people with numbers on their forehead," she whispered.
He plucked it out of her hands and read through its contents.
"Hmm, it does say that they were spies of Lafta," he whispered with his hands on his chin.
"See. I told you, they are all spies," she whispered with her nose in the air.
"Not so soon. Its only about them, what about Kaden and Gaius, you might be wrong about them?" He whispered.
"Maybe... But I don't have any other conclusion. What should I do? Only I can see these numbers and even if I told anyone they would not believe me, ah," she scratched her curly hair.
Impostor Zhong ruffled up her hair and whispered, "Don't worry, we can find more answers here,"
"Hmm, I hope so," she whispered with a down cast look.
Surviving this world proved to be more challenging than she thought. She had died once here, and she did not want to die again before finding her soul fragment.
'Dear grandma, I hope you are safe. Don't worry, I will come to you soon. So hang on,' she prayed.
With her hand clenched, she read through the reports again.
She wanted to find something... Anything that will hint as to what the forehead numbers were.
But the rest of the reports were about the kingdom's operations.
With a sigh, she put down the last report.
"I got nothing. What about you?" she whispered.
"Hmm, still checking," he said flipping thought a small book. It was quite small compare to the other ones with a green griffin etched on its spine.
She went to another book shelf and started checking each of them. There were so many history books and different kingdom related books. One book in particular caught her eye.
It was a book about Lafta.
She picked it up and called Zhong closer.
But he was busy reading that green book.
Shaking her head, she started reading it.
Suddenly he rushed towards her and pulled her towards the table.
"Hey, what's wrong?" she whisper shouted.
He muffled her mouth and pulled her below the table.
"Mnn nnn hhnn," (what the hell let go) she screamed.
He hugged her firmly to his body. "Shh, they are coming," he whispered softly in her ear.
That's when she noticed the floor vibrating softly.
She nodded her head at him. 'I understand now let go,' she wiggled her eyebrows.
He shook his head and smirked. "Let's stay like this for a while," he whispered.
She started struggling. 'What the hell? What is this guy doing? Did he forget that I'm a guy as well?' she thought, glaring at him.
"Shh, stay still," he whispered.
He was breathing softly on her face.
She turned her head away from him. But he nuzzled his face in the crook of her neck and breathed in.
She pushed his shoulders away, but he was holding her too tight. 'What… what... What's going on? Why is he sniffing me?' she thought.
"Do you know you smell like daffodils," he whispered softly.
'Daffodils?' she subtly sniffed him as well. 'YES!! He smell like daffodils too,'
The subtly herby scent along with a floral note is the scent of daffodils.
"Yu nn mm," (You smell the same) she mumbled through his hands.
He softly chuckled and hugged her tightly. "Oh, how I missed this….. I really missed you," he whispered.
His voice sounded so sad.
She lifted her head up and gazed at him. But he refused to meet her eyes.
"Is that why you treated him that way?" her father's voice sounded from nearby.
"Yes, why else do you think so? I don't enjoy torturing people. If I hadn't whipped him, Lijin would have beheaded him and put the blame on you," another man she assumed as the Lafta emissary said.
"It's been tough for you, old friend," he father said.
"Hmm, there have been highs and lows. But that kid… Deric, he's a good kid. Treat him well," the emissary whispered.
"Of course I will, he is going to be my future son inn law after all," her father said and chuckled.
Listening to this, Ambai was shocked to the core. 'Son in law!!! He is planning to marry me to a man. Why? Whyyyy?' she internally screamed.
She felt Zhong's grip on her waist tighten.
She pulled up her veil and signaled him with her eyes. 'You're hurting me. Let go,'
But the devil refused to look at her. He softly snuggle near her neck and whispered, "Why can't I have you even in this world?"
She pulled his face away. 'What!! Nani!! God, what is going on? Is this devil talking about me?'
the emissary chuckled. "Ha-ha, yes, that kid is lucky. I heard your son is cute as a button. you even went to the great lengths to put a veil on him," he said.
"Yes, he is very cute. But the veil… it serves another purpose." Her dad said.
"'Sigh' Rukle, don't take me wrong, but there are rumors that Lijin is trying to hurt your son because of a prophecy," the emissary whispered.
Her father remained silent.
Ambai placed her head onto the wooden board. 'They are talking about my prophecy!'
"Yes, his… eyes will cause the downfall of our nation," her father whispered after a long pause.
"Old friend, you are still the same. You are not supposed to mumble out national secrets," the emissary whispered with a chuckle.
"I am telling you because you are trustworthy," her father said.
"Hmm, it's good that you told me. Because there is another prophecy about your son in Lafta," the emissary whispered.
Ambai was even more shocked. 'There is another one? How many prophecies can one person have, ah?' she bit her lips and keenly listened.
"It is said a veiled beauty will kill Lijin, that's why he is trying to hurt your son," the emissary whispered.
There was a long pause after that.
Ambai moved closer to the tabletop and peeped out.
Her father was holding his face with his back slouched.
"What can I do? What can I do to save him? 'sob' I tried everything, every mage, every seer, everything." He cried.
The emissary hugged him and whispered, "You are trying your best,"
"But best is not enough. The demons to the west are after his life, and Lijin is after his life. What can I do to keep him safe?" he sobbed.
Ambai got back under the table. The situation had turned somber in minutes.
She hugged her knees closer. 'I never knew… I never knew father loved me so much,' she thought.
Tears pooled in her eyes, but she refused to cry. 'After I leave this world, what would happen to erudite? Will he die as well?'
'I'm so silly, if take the soul of erudite, he is definitely going to die,' she thought as a small sob racked though her body.
'Because of my selfish desires I might wreck this family apart,'
