Chapter 19: '1.9' An unexpected celebration

'You have got to be kidding me.' I thought as a voice called over. " I'd drop that if I were you," Krogan said, appearing on top of the dragon. I narrowed my eyes at him, trying to intimidate him in a way. My mind suddenly wished Destiny was here; she would show him who's boss.

I sighed deeply and climbed off Johan in a sad mood. My hand swiped for his bag; before he could react, I took the Dragon-eye out of his possession in a matter of seconds. The cold-warm stinging of blood didn't stop even after my hand concealed the wound.

I paid no attention, whatsoever, to Johan nor Krogan while I walked back to Viggo and Ryker in a strange sense of calm. I could hear the thump of a dragon landing and hushed chattering behind me. My feet pained tremendously as I quickly decided to stop at the tables to rest. Of course I would get weird looks, but I can order them to stop looking at me.

The aroma in the air was undeniably delightful, primarily since I was so hungry. Come to think of it, I barely ate at the Edge, which doesn't make sense at all, as I was the one who ate the most in the family. I walked past a few rows of cages filled with dragons, and as I did so, I gave them looks of pity.

I can't imagine being trapped between four walls to do someone else's bidding. I don't know why, but it felt wrong. It felt improper to do this to creatures who have the same level of intellect as us. At that moment, part of me admitted that Dragons are more human than I am. It felt confusing; why not help the dragons? I've seen their loyalty- I've experienced it myself. It just seems wrong to hurt them.

By now, the tables were being draped in food. I half-limped towards the feast, hoping that things will remain a tad bit normal. When I entered the clearing, no one seemed to pay attention to me. I felt somewhat disrespected because when Ryker enters, everyone speaks softer and try to look him in the eyes.

But when Viggo enters, everybody stops what they're doing immediately and attempt not to make eye contact at all. The exact opposite happens when I enter. My eyes scattered around the opening, hoping to find an open seat.

Just my luck, there was a nearby discarded seat to my right. I tried my best to run over to it but stopped when the pain came too fast. I limped over and plopped down, resting my feet on each other. I reached over to a piece of chicken but my hand was slapped away by a guard.

Normally, I would threaten them; however, when I heard that familiar cold voice speaking- I knew just why my hand was slapped away. " Greetings my fellow advisories." Viggo's voice spoke up. I scrunched my eyebrows together and instinctively held the Dragon-eye tighter.

I looked throughout trying to see anyone other than guards who could be advisories. A few strange heads appeared as my focus shifted around. " As you all know, a very special occasion is making its way into our focus. An occasion only held be the most victorious tribe in the Archipelago."

The crowd cheered and raised their mugs, while I only sunk lower into my seat, grumbling. " And I am most joyish to confirm that one of our own will be stepping into the spotlight-" My eyes caught an empty golden goblet.

I quickly snatched it and cleaned the rims. "-to host one of the most festive celebrations here." The crowd gave another cheer of bliss. I inspected the rims and then decided it was clean enough to drink in it.

I reached over to the purple water and gently poured the goblet full. " The dead of night ceremony will begin at dawn, like all the previous times and then, we will congratulate one of our finest successors," Viggo instructed. The was a murmur of buzzing excitement coursing through everyone.

Everyone except me. I was astonished I forgot about the Dead of night ceremony, but I speedily regained my posture and took a sip. I took another one as it was quite tasty then slowly started drinking it. " This festival will be unlike any other in the past, for we not only celebrate our victories, but someone's heritage," Viggo smirked.

' And it sounds so exciting.' I sarcastically spoke in my head. By now I was taking great gulps in order to distract me from the speech.

" I give you, Imora Grimborn!" He called. My heart stopped.

I gagged and spit the water out, not only from my mouth but from my nose as well. When most of the liquid was out, I started coughing and gasping for breath. All attention was on me, as I tried to make myself stop, but only made it worse as my hand was hitting my chest in order to relieve me of the liquid.

When I finally retracted from my spluttering action, I glanced around. I slowly tried to put a smile on my face with giggling nervously. " Hehehe... hi." I awkwardly waved. Viggo miraculously seemed to understand my embarrassment as he continued with his speech.

I paid no attention to it at all, as I just focused and regaining my ego. I groaned softly and laid my head on the table. After a few minutes, Viggo's speech was over and everybody was eating.

My stomach grumbled ferociously, but I stealthily stood and backed away slowly. I focused on every head that was moving and made careful precision. My feet soundlessly carried me out of sight from most people. The dark of the forest gave me chills but as persistent as I was, I moved forward.

The dragons gave me glares from their cages, as if to say I was to blame. I looked down in guilt, instantly wishing Destiny was here with me. Loud footsteps made my head turned around. There was a shadow out of the corner of my eye.

My heart sped. Then I heard a Nadder squawk and the usual slicing sound of their tail. But what made my insides froze was when I heard;" And where do you think you're going?"
