Chapter 7: Mumbling is a bad habit

The three strangers, now grouped, found themselves in a house with 3 doors , 3 bookshelves, and 3 desks. A door to the north, east, and south. A book shelf on the right side of the door, and a desk on the left hand side. The doors were simple and wooden, basic, like the desks and the shelves. The only difference being the separate names on each. Only one window sat at the west wall, with a small t.v. and a huge couch.

"A door for each person, it appears." Clio stated taking large strides towards the door with his name.

"Don't act smart because of something so obvious.." Aiko followed Clio's lead and went to her own door on the southern wall.

Baethor just stared at the backs of the two, Clio walking towards the north, Aiko towards the south. They obviously had their own agendas and Baethor felt the insecurity of his own weakness laying on him. His team mates were more decisive, vocal, and secure, even if they argued.

'I might as well read, and try my best to not become dead weight.'

His attention had been locked on the bookshelf since his arrival. It was the first thing he noticed. His habits from his living life coming to life. Even as a child he would be pulled to the allure of books.

'Every story is a life, and every life has a lesson.' Was his own personal justification for reading so much. Even if the story was completely based in fantasy, he would find some way to learn from it. A lesson learned was never a waste of time.

"Let's see, Let's see...." He rose his finger towards the incredibly plain looking hardback books. Reading the titles softly to himself.

'The Humor of Gods... Beasts and Bounties... Intellect of Angels...' None of the titles really spoke to him, however there were more than 100 books on this shelf. The shelves of the other two had less books, for sure.

'The Gods know I'm stupid and decided I needed this apparently.'

He grabbed a random book off the shelf, sat at the desk, and immediately immersed himself. He opened the first page and read the words "The Mana Omnibus" and chuckled to himself.

'My luck seems pretty good' he thought taking it as a very small victory, assuaging his anxiety.

Inside of the North Room, Clio stood aghast with happiness at the beautiful assortment of painting colors and tools. A small make-up desk to the left of it, and his bed was the most beautiful and pristine he had ever seen. Everything was tranquil, and elegant. Truly heaven is for the blessed.

The South Room was filled with heavy metal and double-bass speakers. Aiko had wasted no time when she entered the room. She pressed play on huge stereo system with surround sound. She spun on her heels as her favorite song played out loud. Everything she did in this room came with confidence, as if she had been in this room many times before.

The training of all three different. Four days drifted by in a flash with no interaction from oen another.

Baethor had a pile of books strewn around the floor by the desk. Each stack of books peaked higher than the desk. "Such a great read..." Baethor stopped on his last book on the shelf. He closed the book and re-read the title 'Pandoras''.

The book itself was boring. Definitely more of a catalog than an actual book. A "Pandora" is a treasure that one leaves in Heaven for themselves when they return from life. Many people left things as small as a sword, a pendant, or things as large as a huge filled with endless amounts of treasure. Often times people would find these Pandora's and raid them, other times the security and counter-measures left behind were so impossible no one could even access them.

It was such a good read Baethor couldn't help but mumble to himself. Something he has always done when reading since he was a child. It helped stave off the loneliness as well as process all of his ideas and curiosities.

He learned that when he didn't need to sleep, eat, or rely on anything external it was very easy for himself to get lost in his passions. If he learned this much only the course of four days then imagine what the beings of heaven know living here for thousands or even millions of years..

Standing up and getting a good stretch in, his lazy eyes gazed upon Clio's bookshelf. There were considerably less books, and the shelf itself seemed smaller than his own.

'Are all the books different on each shelf?' This question took root in his heart. It had been days sense he had seem either of his team mates. The only way to tell time was the window at the west wall, and the light or dark light that would hit his back as he read. 'Whatever.. It'll be alright.'

The books were different. Where his books were all about the uses of Mana, History, Geography, and types of life, Clio's were all books filled with pictures of art, and others were philosophy.

"What does this even mean? Is it based on interests or who we are as people?"

He walked towards the South Bookshelf and looked at the books on Aiko's shelf.

'I should've figured.. She seems like the type..' The entire bookshelf is filled with books about Body-Building, Martial Arts, and Kinesiology. Aside from those were a plethora of self-improvement books.

'This is actually beneficial, Kinesiology is all about the motion of the human body... This would be amazing for me and trying to develop my running abilities before the match. He picked up the first book off the shelf "A Multiverse of Kinesiology" and lost track of time. Mumbling to himself to break the silence.

The light coming through the west-wall window, came and left twice in the room. The pile of books growing ever higher as Baethor sat on the floor and studied. He didn't just limit himself either. After the Kinesiology book, he switched over to "Heavenly Motion in Martial Arts" and drifted down that topic. If his mind was a boat, these books were a river which he rode without tire.

Every sentence brought him a little bit closer to not becoming dead-weight. If he had the time he would have probably went to Clio's shelf and read his books too. However, his peace was quickly interrupted by a cracking of the door.

"Dead Weight... Were you trying to... Peep.. on me?"

Baethors felt a shiver rise through his spine as Aiko's voice became calmer. He was legitimately scared and in this situation...

"Calm down..." A voice of peace come from behind Baethor. He quickly snapped his head towards Clio watching him stride towards the couch and turning on the T.V.."He was just reading your books. Pay attention to the small details, our lives will depend on it starting tomorrow."

'Clio.. Even though you're so beautiful it makes me uncomfortable... You're the best savior I could ever wish for!' Baethor sighed internally, finding relief which came too early.

"They're not your books!" She yelled at Baethor. "You're sitting in front of my door, reading my books, are you obsessed with me or something?"

"No one would be obsessed with someone with such a poor attitude and a poor bust.. Your children will surely starve if they rely on you."

Baethor just opened his mouth in shock and stared into Aiko's eyes. A fire of hatred burning behind her pupils. With a release and tighten of her clenched fists, her knuckles cracked loudly then there was nothing...

Silence.

'Oh fuck.... Did i say that out loud...' Baethor's bad habit came out at the worst time.
