Chapter 14: New Feeling Enveloped My Heart

Adonis's POV

I go to Ariana's room, and she is talking on the phone and I wish to eavesdrop since I can tell she is speaking with Maya, but I don't wish her to learn my secret yet. I perceive the moment will take place I will need my sister's help in convincing Maya that I am being true to her this time, but I guess it will take time and more efforts on my part to convince her of my genuine intention because I already played with her heart last year. I told my sister to come down to eat lunch with us. My grandfather just arrived from his meeting and I can tell it by the roaring of the helicopter.

We eat our lunch together with our grandpa Don Miguel, and of course my cousin, Jake, I don't know why he loves staying with us, sometimes his father will come and get him. I felt so happy to be here in my grandpa's place. I spend my time with Ariana in the living room after we dine, and I can tell she is so excited about something. She is bringing her notebook organized with her, and I am sure she has something on her mind.

"Hey, why are you so busy?" I asked since I can't prevent my curiosity anymore.

"I am just writing the things I needed for the party." She declared, and I raised my eyebrow.

"I am having a get-together dinner, and this time I will not invite your friends, I mean those who are in the Circle except you, Rich, and if Jake is only not our cousin, I won't invite him." She said, and she looks so cute pouting her lips.

"So, if you will not invite the members of the Rich Kids Circle, who would be your guests?" I asked, feeling so innocent, I am just pretending because I am very sure Maya is number on her list.

"Well, the usual crowd, I would love to welcome the children of our farmhands like Bea and her brother, Christopher, but actually, I am doing this for my best friend. I want Maya to celebrate her graduation party, but I can't tell her that because I know she won't come." My sister replied.

"I don't know why she is like that. She doesn't want me to give her something expensive, and she is always busy working. I am just glad Mary always helps like today, I sought for the Doctor's prescriptions for the medicine of her grandmother if I asked Maya about it, for sure she won't give it to me." She said beaming at me and I can tell she is so happy about her little achievement, but I love my sister's good heart, and I am so proud of her. She is like our grandfather so down to earth and regularly helps others in need.

I am just glad she didn't notice I listen to her entire speech before, I always cut her off every chance she mentions Maya's name, but right now I want her to talk more about her.

"Why do you keep looking at your watch?" She asked me when she noticed I continue glancing at my wristwatch.

"I am planning to go to the Hernandez Hacienda, I am just buying time, Rich has arrived, and we have so many things to catch up." I said, and I know I need to see my best friend, but I am more excited about seeing her and I can feel my palms sweat just thinking about her.

"I wish to go there too, because Maya will be there, but I will go to the capital to buy some medicines for her granny, please don't inform her about it." she declared, and I smile, and I am thinking how can I tell her something like that when we are not even friends yet.

"Sure!" I replied, and I know it has been my sister's wish that I will get along with Maya. I hope I am not yet too late.

"I get going now." I spoke and I get up from the sofa.

"Bye Adonis and have fun." My sister replied.

"Thanks!" I mumbled, and I go out of the living room leading to the parking lot. I felt so excited about meeting her, but I can't also stop the rapid beating of my heart. Not only that, but I am thinking about the kiss we shared last year, the hurt on her face when she saw me making out with Cassandra. And I want to turn back time, but there is no such thing. We only live once, and we can rewind nothing, all the words we said and the actions we made can never be reversed.

I arrived at the Hernandez Mansion feeling so optimistic, I smiled when I saw my best friend's ride, but I can't look at the young woman I want to see. Rich emerged the moment I park my convertible. I climbed out of my car, and we fist bump.

"So, aren't you busy today?" He asked me.

"Nope! My grandpa told me to enjoy my vacation, but tomorrow I will help you know me, I love going to the plantation together with the farmhands, I miss working under the sunlight." I said, and he laughs.

"Yeah, the same here, but I am just glad our place has different humidity, unlike other places you can't stand for how many hours working under the sun." He declared, and I nodded.

"Yes, I agree with you, that is why we are so lucky to be here in San Antonio." I responded. Rich asked me to follow him on the porch. I sat on the patio chair when his older brother Benedict calls his attention so, I am alone on the veranda. I heard the roar of an oncoming vehicle and when I turn my head, I saw the pick-up truck of Donya Esmeralda. I can feel my entire body turns so hot when I looked at Maya disembarked from the truck. Donya Esmeralda gets inside the house in a haste, and she left Maya standing near the pickup.

I enjoyed watching her since she can't determine if I am glancing at her since I didn't take off my dark shades. I tried to hide my smile. And I can tell Maya is having a hard time to decide what she is going to do because I can say she is so affected by my presence, and she didn't expect to find me here sitting on the porch. She doesn't have any idea that I was waiting for her. I can declare she is planning on something, then I suddenly saw her running leading to the main entrance of the mansion, but she hit something on her feet that made her fall to the ground.

I get up from the chair immediately, and I run towards her side. I can tell she is in pain, for I watched her struggled to stand up, but she can't do anything. I put my hands on her waistline and I pulled her up and I closed my eyes when I smell her familiar sweet scent, the fragrance that made me wide awake for how many nights, and I want to kiss her one more time, but I am not yet ready to receive another blow on the face that is why I refrain myself in doing so. I didn't let go of her waist, I am still holding her and I can almost hear her heartbeat for we are standing so close to each other.

I put my shades on top of my head because I want to see her beautiful face with my naked eyes, and I felt her tense when our eyes meet.

"Are you okay, Maya?" I asked her, trying to sound so cool, but I am stunned when she pushed me hard, and she ran away from me going to the house. And I realized she endured the pain as long as she can get away from me. I want to come after her, but I am afraid if she will become angry with me, so I opted to sit back on the chair on the porch. I waited for Rich to appear small, but it seems he has some urgent things to do, and I can't wait, so instead of waiting outside, I decided to go inside the living area of their mansion.

My pace faltered when I saw Rich carried Maya going to the sofa of the living room, and I want to be in his place. I think this is the first moment we will have some rivalry. I won't allow Rich to take Maya away from me. I remain standing in the living room entrance while Rich is so busy attending to Maya's injury. And I felt so glad he is helping her, even though I felt angry with him for touching her.

"You are welcome, next time, try to control your face, you are so obvious, the way your face blushed is telling me it was all because of Adonis." Rich said after Maya said thank you to him.

"What about me?" I asked Rich, and I saw Maya lower down her head to avoid eye contact with me.

"Nothing, I just thought you were the reason for Maya's injury." Rich declared.

"What? I was just sitting on the porch watching the scenery when she darted away from the pickup then she fell to the ground, it was because of her clumsiness Rich, I have nothing to do with it. I even helped her to stand up, but instead of saying thank you to me, she pushed me, and ran away from me." I replied, I don't wish to hurt her feelings, but I can't stop myself feeling annoyed because I can tell she is enjoying Rich's touch. I can see her face turned red with anger, but she didn't talk back to me.

We proceed to the dining hall to eat our snacks and I want to assist her, but I know this is not yet the right time to offer her my help since I realize she will only decline. Rich helped her to walk in going to the dining hall. I can't stop myself from gawking at her beautiful face, and when she caught me gaping at her, I felt so glad she didn't look away, she just continues to look at me, and this is the first time we are looking at each other for a long moment without blinking our eyes, and I can't cease the racing of my pulse and I can't hold myself from getting so thrilled, and I realized a new feeling enveloped my entire heart.
